Norwegian Starting to Isolate Smoking in Casinos

 Share

Recommended Posts

I just read where Norwegian is starting to build it's new ships with casino smoking areas which are totally separate - in other words the majority of the casino will not smell like smoke anymore.

What do you think about this as it relates to the smoke filled casinos on Royal ships? Even if you just walk through the Royal casinos, your clothes and hair will immediately smell like cigarette smoke.

Do you think that Royal will get smart and eliminate smoking in their casinos, or at least truly isolate the smoking area with doors and a separate air ventilation system, similar to what you now find in many airports?

On all 5 cruises we took this year, smoke and the smell of smoke in the casinos was my # 1 complaint - anyone else feel this way?

I liked the Oasis because the casino is tucked away and you don't smell the smoke much.

But I had issues on the Freedom of the Seas. We walked outside rather than go through the casino. The smoke was really bad one night when we were trying to look at our photos.

When playing games in Schooners we tried to get seats on the far side of the room to avoid the smoke coming out of the casino.

I will not cruise on the Epic again because everything is based off the casino. It's the only NCL ship I have tried.

So you are OK with the person smoking and sitting across from you (or at the slot machine directly behind yours) because he/she is in the "smoking area" and you are not? On Royal the only deliniation in their casinos of smokers vs. non smokers is an invisible "line" that they made up to assuage both groups, only the non smokers inhale the second hand smoke constantly.......

While I don't gamble much, I am glad NCL is doing with on their new ships (and hopefully Breakaway and Getaway) because of the way they are designed.

On Oasis and Freedom, you can get by not having to go through the casino by using the promenade one floor above.

On NCL's new ships, they build the casino around the 678 Ocean Place on deck 7, so the smoke filters through and you can definitely smell it outside of the actual casino area. So I am very glad they are doing this, just for that reason.

I'm an ex-smoker too. Just can't understand why people get so upset about cigarette smoke.

I don't know either.

Having a Tobacco Allergy which can vary. Sometimes exposure making me feel unwell to having a thumping frontal lobe headache. In bad times it can include nausea and vomitting. This can be from just a whiff of smoke or sometimes from the smell from a smokers dirty clothes.

I can see no reason to be upset at all.

Why not just make smokers put a plastic bag over their heads while they're smoking....

Until they make smoking ILLEGAL, then the smokers have some rights to do what they want to do.....

I remember when everyone smoked everywhere...in grocery stores, hospitals, schools....the situation has improved greatly.

What a good idea.

Yes they do .... but they often do not realise, or care about, the effect they have on others. Maybe the safer drugs, like heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, etc should be made legal.

I too remember those days too.

While I agree smokers have the right to smoke, I should not have to breathe or smell the smoke. I like the casino also, but will not go in because of the smoke. I've seen many smokers just go to the casino so they can smoke!! The invisible line between smoking and non-smoking doesn't work - only separate rooms or really great ventilation systems.

I would support this 100% if it would eliminate smoking threads. However it won't.

If there was a completely separate casino for smokers only, there would be complaints from non-smokers who went in there because of some slot machine that was their favorite, or some dealer who had a shift in there, or some planned event at a specific time that they wanted to participate in.

The same would hold true if RCCL launched "Nicotine of the Seas" a smoking only ship. Non-smokers would want to book cruises on it, then complain about the smoke. Or complain that the ship shouldn't be allowed because it is docked next to a non-smoking ship (the whole time ignoring the tons of diesel being burned by both ships).

The simple fact is that the issues with smokers by the majority of the complaining non-smokers comes down to control and has little to do with smoking at all.

It is politically correct to complain about smokers. Smoking is dangerous and unhealthy they should quit. So is being over weight, but if I started a thread about all the fatties on cruise ships and they should be isolated into specific areas so we didn't have to look at them I would be crucified.

Yes, but smoking effects everyone around you. When someone smokes you are forcing them to smoke too! That cruise ship we are all on is dumping more carcinogens into the air (that we all are breathing) over the course of a week than all the smokers on board combined.

Would you folks like a smoke free ship? Carnival Paradise worked out real well! NOT!

A sort of solution would be to have a few Smoking Rooms around the ships which have a slight negative air pressure (sealed room with extraction fans and restriction on the inlets and double doors) These rooms are in some airports now.

I am guessing that the gamblers may not like having to leave to smoke though.

I have thought about trying gambling but then there is always paint drying somewhere that needs to be watched or grass growing.

Looks like I will be vice free on the seas. Don't gamble, allergic to tobacco and it will be a drink free holiday too.

I don't gamble so I really don't care but Celebrity is completely interior smoke free and it seems to be working for them.
