CCC3 Posted November 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 1, 2015 I'm a new cruiser (1 cruise, next one booked!) but I'm wondering why I didn't see any potato / tortilla chips on board. Or...did I just miss them? I'd much rather have had chips in place of fries/potato wedges, or just as a snack. I'm SURE there is a reason... CCC3 Posted November 1, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted November 1, 2015 Not all ships do unfortunately. Seems like it'd be such an easy snack...especially for families with teens & kids!
cb at sea Posted November 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 2, 2015 Lots of "normal" snacks are not on ships. Popcorn is at a premium, if it's there at all. Chips of any kind are in short supply....wings...almost nonexistent.....
harlekuin Posted November 2, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2015 I'm betting space might be a concern. Storing tons of bags of chips would take up huge amounts of space and they are fragile. If they get squished, folks will complain about getting bags of crumbs! Most ships seem to have cans of Pringles in the store. Overpriced but when you need some crunchy. :) We bring a couple of cans with us.

It's not like we eat 'em every day, but it's a quick snack that could easily be kept (in the bag) in your room for an attack of the munchies. And I'm sure there would be complaints of the chips weren't in pristine condition!
ckrobyn Posted November 2, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 2, 2015 There are nacho chips available in the Windjammer at 3:30pm for afternoon snacks (on Voyager and Freedom class, not sure about the others) I always buy a few cans of Pringles to take with me, they are re-sealable and since I buy them at the port city, I just put them in my carry on. cincicruisers Posted November 2, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 2, 2015 We have missed the bar snacks on the ships. Your getting drinks and it would be nice to have some salty snacks. I bring a big ziploc bag of snack mix. Put some in smaller ziploc bag and head out for the night. A lot of folks ask where we got the snacks and we let them know we brought from home. We share with others if we have plenty.

reallyitsmema Posted November 2, 2015 #14 Share Posted November 2, 2015 At the Pit Stop Bar on the Jewel recently, they had tortilla chips and salsa at night at the bar that you could help yourself to. They also had a popcorn machine that they sold bags of popcorn for $2:eek:, we passed on that.

I'm SURE there is a reason... potato chips are only available prepackaged in those venues that offer them, such as the Park Cafe. or you can spend way too much money on stale Pringles form the ship's store/. if you want them bring your own

Rare rudeney Posted November 2, 2015 #20 Share Posted November 2, 2015 It's funny that you mention this, we were on the Navigator two weeks ago and noticed the same thing. It was either my wife or granddaughter that had a craving for chips, and there were none to be found! We didn't think of calling room service. besberry Posted November 2, 2015 #22 Share Posted November 2, 2015 They have them in Cafe Two70 on Anthem. The brand changed halfway through the cruise from Kettle Chips to some obscure Spanish brand!
Host Jacquelyn Posted November 2, 2015 #23 Share Posted November 2, 2015 It's not only Oasis class that has bags of chips out. We were on Splendour and there was a cafe in the Solarium that made sandwiches and salads, and they had bags of chips out. I would guess that other ship classes have chips out somewhere. Susie51 Posted November 2, 2015 #24 Share Posted November 2, 2015 They are available through room service. ### Thanks for the tip. On Carnival and NCL we have found chips served with hamburgers and hot dogs at the little buffet by the pool.

Or...did I just miss them? I'd much rather have had chips in place of fries/potato wedges, or just as a snack. I'm SURE there is a reason... I would guess it has to do primarily with recycling/handling, and size. At least that is why you don't see them in the buffet. The bags that these come in whether individual sizes or larger are mostly air and that takes up a lot of room.
