slyone14 Posted November 13, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 13, 2015 So I have a concern for my upcoming cruise this week. My gf and I are going on a 7 day cruise on the Carnival Glory from tomorrow and coming back the following Saturday. I was reading the weather and we are supposed to be tendering at Half Moon Cay Sunday. MY concern is this, the predicted weather Sunday is a 25percent chance of rain in the afternoon and 20-25mph easterly winds according to Google. Do you frequent cruisers think we will be skipping HMC or No? Please honest and let me know. Im not sure about cruises and winds that speed, that seems really high. Thank you again
linbobky Posted November 13, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 13, 2015 we missed hmc last month! I think last month it was a 50/50 chance making it in there! just hope for the best!:)
skylock Posted November 13, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 13, 2015 If the weather is bad they will skip it. No need to be concerned about it now. Nothing you can do at this point. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
Towel Critter Posted November 13, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 13, 2015 The rain won't be an issue. The wind might be, since this is a tendered port. No way to know for certain ahead of time. Good luck. I hope you don't have to miss HMC.

I think last month it was a 50/50 chance making it in there! just hope for the best!:) If you don't mind, do you remember the conditions of Half moon cay? What the weather report or anything read? Just curious The rain won't be an issue. The wind might be, since this is a tendered port. No way to know for certain ahead of time. Good luck. I hope you don't have to miss HMC. Thank you, I appreciate it. I just looking for a best educated quess if the frequent cruisers think we will be skipping it. Just have no clue what 25mph winds mean in the Carribean and the fact that its Easterly matters. Ive heard this is everyones favorite port, so full of hope here. thomarvin Posted November 13, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 13, 2015 We are 1/3. Cancelled once for a hurricane but they knew ahead of time and we did other ports. This year, the weather was good and we got there but the seas were too choppy so we got there but had to leave. We had a sea day.
crzndeb Posted November 13, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 13, 2015 The Triumph just stopped there 2 days ago, and it was gorgeous. On the last day of 21 days on the B2B Journey's cruises. It has been great, but ready for my bed.

I promise it sounds like im really worried, but im more curious and trying to understand. So when they pulled away what were the conditions like if you remember? Was the wind speed higher than 25mph? I would THINK anything higher than 30mph, but less than 25mph, cant be that bad. Its the northerly winds you have to watch out for. But I could be wrong. Thank you again, I am soo new to crusing and my GF is soooo excited about HMC, I honestly think we will be okay, just getting a second opinion
Mary Ellen1 Posted November 13, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 13, 2015 (edited) We are 2-for-4 in hitting, or missing, Half Moon Cay. The last time we missed it (on, I think, Holland America) the captain spent the better part of an hour trying to anchor securely. He repositioned the ship a few times, but finally gave up. If I recall, that day was sunny and windy. Lots of whitecaps. I, too, am Glory-ing on Saturday, so I hope to see you on board, and I hope to see you on HMC! :D Update: Forgot to say... As we sailed away from HMC after they announced we weren't staying, I looked over towards some other islands and I could see another cruise ship! Pretty sure it was a Princess ship at Princess Cays (on Eleuthera, which is pretty close to HMC). NO FAIR!!! They got their private-island day and we didn't! Boo! :( Edited November 13, 2015 by Mary Ellen1
martinchem Posted November 13, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 13, 2015 We are under 50% in 11 booked visits. 5 for 11. Don't worry because you will get all your port fees back! All 16 cents.
skylock Posted November 13, 2015 #11 Share Posted November 13, 2015 I know you want to know if it will be skipped, but nobody here can tell you. As I said, if conditions are bad when you get there, it will be skipped. There are lots of things that go into a decision and a forecast of the weather today, does not mean that will be what it actually is when you get there. If they can make it, they will. If they decide when they get there conditions are bad, they will skip it. Add a guess, I would say if the forecast stays the same and nothing else is going on, you will make it. It is like when they used to go to Cancun. They made the port about 75% of the time, but I was never on a ship that made it, so we finally just flew down for a week. Never been back, but our hotel was excellent. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

Have you looked at the weather for all the other ports? How is it looking, someone said it appears we are going to have a very windy and rough seas cruise, but I disagree. Miller_KC Posted November 13, 2015 #14 Share Posted November 13, 2015 I haven't been in the Caribbean a day where rain wasn't in the forecast. It usually comes and goes without much impact to your day. The Bay opens to the South West so you should have no problems with winds from the North or the East. You can look at it on Google Maps. Search for Half Moon Cay, Cat Island, The Bahamas. The ship doesn't actually enter the bay so is susceptible to rough water.

Hey, if they skip it maybe they will re-route us to Nassau or Freeport, id like to see those places too. Not sure how that works. In my opinion, if they are going to skip HMC for the day, then you will most likely have a sea day. It is not in the carnival's best interest to take you to another port in the Bahamas. Carnival owns HMC and receives all the revenue derived on the Island. If they are gong to skip the island and loose the revenue, they would rather make it up by keeping the bars and casino open and the dollars pouring in. The only day of concern is grand turk, high winds and high chance of rain. I meant 11am, sorry. At work typing fast.

Its not me that has to worry about Seasick pills, my gf, gets motionsickness, but she is bringing on a bunch of Seasick Patches and pill also to avoid it. So she should be okay. Looks to be a crappy weather week, but lets make the best out of it! What time you plan to try and get there? I heard we usually board about 1100-1130,

lagienomai Posted November 13, 2015 #21 Share Posted November 13, 2015 I wish you luck. Last month when we were to leave Nassau and head to HMC we were told we were extending our stay for 4 hours and we would not be going to HMC because of forcasted bad weather and we would instead would be having a sea day. We didn't even go to the island so I have never seen it :( so we spent 2 days riding in circles in the ocean.
The4Cruisers Posted November 13, 2015 #22 Share Posted November 13, 2015 It's not ALL doom and gloom! We are 5 for 5 (I think) on hitting HMC. Not sure of the exact count, but we've made it 100% of our scheduled trips. If we were to miss one on our upcoming cruises, I'd understand "it's in law of averages". OCruisers Posted November 13, 2015 #23 Share Posted November 13, 2015 Hope you're able to make it ... but, if you aren't, you would not have enjoyed being there anyway on a rainy windy day. Whatever .... Enjoy your cruise! :)

I think about half the calls at HMC I've planned on were cancelled due to weather including the last 2 times I tried to go there. I also missed a planned HMC call for a milestone birthday. Good luck! I hope it works out for you.
