meaning the time you are on the cruise, not the cruise and air.

we are not heavy drinkers( one or 2 frozen drinks and one night out of drinking maybe), we gamble here and there and are looking forward to a nice massage and some moderate shore excursions nothing crazy, not that you can give me the exact dollar amount, but with that in mind was is a ballpark you think i may be looking at
i have no idea what to expect, and do not want to feel like jumping ship when i get the total LOL
so once again thanks for the help

I think if you don't drink much you're looking at about $300 per person minimum if you do the shore excursions and massage. The casino you can use your own cash. It doesn't have to be charged to your account.

Depending on the amount you spend on gambling and not knowing which shore excursions that you will book it is hard to say. Personally, I would probably make sure I had $100-$200 pp per day for expenses. But remember, your shipboard account will be charged to your credit card, along with your excursions and drinks and spa services.
Just the spa services alone can really run up a shipboard account. Gambling all depends on if you win or loose.
Enjoy your cruise.

Hi lesa. One year we spent $300.00. That was dh and me. Othere years with the grandchildten, $500 to $800. we drink moderately, don't do excursions, shop in port, buy soda cards, shop on board, and we don't gamble. Pretty boring, huh. Not with the kids. This year will be more. Getting our vows renewed. Our kids and grandkids will be there. Not all of them!!!!!

Ok figure $60.00 per person per day for excursions, gambling is dependent on you, drink if you and he/she has 2 a day $28.00. Now if you have Spa treatment $80.00 per person. Avg is about $100/per person per day plus the $140.00 for the tips.

Hopfully a Hawiian Cruise

Lesa,

Sounds very similar to me and my wife. I figure $75 each for massage on port day. Two excursions at about $50ea per excursion. $20 for drinks per day (not big drinkers). Tips of $140. That comes to $630. Last year our bill was $700.

Photos can run $15 to $20 each should you want any of those. Wine will run $20 and up,up,up. It all depends on you and what you want. The shore excursions are the big ticket items but you will know the price of these before you go. The spa is an expensive luxury. Drinks run up from $4.57 including the 15% added gratuity. If you play BINGO that runs $20 min. per time. Don't overlook other cash tips for porters at the pier, roomservice, tour guides and bus drivers plus the $10/day/pp for automatic tips put on your shipboard account.

$500 for a 7 day Carribean is low and $2-3,000 for a 12 day European isn't unusual.

If the total is a concern go to the Purser's desk and get a print out daily and it will show you exactly where you stand without adding them up yourself.

You don't have to be a heavy drinker to have a high account at the end of seven days of cruising, there are lots of other things to spend your money on and it adds up sooo quick!!

My thinking is... have at least $1500 available credit on your card and check your account regularly throughout your cruise (ours was $952.00). That way you can relax and enjoy your cruise without constantly worrying about the bill at the end. Of course I'm going to have to double that amount for out next cruise which is 14 days!

Cheers,
Kim

I am budgeting $1400 to include tips ($150),shore excursions (2),drinks (2 per person per night),1 spa treatment, shopping, and casino for the two of us. I'm escrowing out that total in my checking account so I will be able to relax and not worry about expense on our trip. Hope this helps.

Those heading for Alaska should really look at the prices of the shore excursions and adjust your budget accordingly. Fishing trips are 200.ea., helicopter rides approaching 400.ea., ever popular dog sledding near 400.ea.

1,000 per week in the Caribbean is normal for us and then there are the art auctions on board $$$$$$$$$$$$. We do not gamble or rarely use the spa services. I do like my wine and dive trips.

Do not forget internet usage onboard at .35 to .50 a minute. Free to Platinum and Elite members.

For a 7-day Caribbean, I budget $1000 to include a few photos, some golf sim, tips, shore excursions (ship-arranged or not), email, precruise hotel/meal, taxis, a soda card for the caffeine addict (no alcohol, no casino, no spa). I'm a big shopper at home, not much on a trip. (I spent only $175 on our last 10-day trip on souvenirs and doo-dads, and that total included a small Waterford piece in GC.) For 10-days elsewhere, at least twice that.

This is from the point of view of one that travels single.(My good friend was in the shipping business and says hes been there and done that........so I travel on my own because I have'nt been there done that.).
Anyway how I handle expenses is when I arrive on board I pay in cash for my on shore excursions which I book in advance plus the $10 per day tips if they go above the shipboard credit....hold aside a certain amount for extra tips which I give to staff who have looked after me well.Do not drink alot....pay for my share if persons at my table wont wine...then there is the odd small thing I buy on board.Get a printout of my account every seven days if it is a long trip.
It is suprising how ones account can build up if one does not keep an eye on it.On an 11 day trip I had an extra $650 to pay.
This is the way i handle my account on board.

I wish they would allow over 30 mins to modify a post!!!!!!! Always remember things I should have added after the fact.
OK the amount of $650 is the extra spent after prepaying the other items so total equals roughly $1000 on 11 day cruise.

We usually budget about $3500-$4000 for a family of 4 for everything - transportation, tips, lots of ship's pics, video games, shore excursions, drinks, an up-do in the salon, etc., but we always come home with extra money.

It's not hard to run up quite a bill on your account---based on 7 day we usually can figure on $1300-$1400---moderatly drinking (6 through out a day) 3 tours--Bingo(which can get pricey)--your tips--some photos(again get pricey lately)and some spending both on ship and on shore. Of course casino--depending on your luck --can jack the cost a bit.We have seen our costs get as high as $1700 .

We come out on the cheap side. Our onboard accounts on the Grand in the western Caribbean last December totaled $300 (including $140 in tips). The other $160 is for drinks (including corkage), postcards and stamps, photos, and sundries. We booked our own excursions and spent about $120 on them. The wine we brought cost around $80. My gambling losses were $10.

Alaska can be a lot more expensive, but we were budget minded there too. Our most expensive excursion was kayaking in Haines while the ship was in Skagway. The second most expensive was snorkeling in Ketchikan. Both excursions were great.

On a 7 day Caribbean cruise, my husband and I average between $500 and $600. This includes excursions, formal and non-formal photos, drinks of the day, soda, a bingo card here or there, stamps from the purser, dinner at Sabatini's and small gifts bought on board. We also take along cash for shopping on the islands which would be in addition to the above. We usually spend our own cash in the casino which doesn't amount to much.

I'll be on my first Princess cruise in Sept. Can anyone tell me how these prices compare to NCL? So far the account range sounds about the same. We gamble, drink, and smoke and purchase latter 2 items on board. We don't use spa services and except for 2 dive excursions we won't be booking excursions through ship. I'm figuring $800 - $1000 that is usually the average for the 2 of us (except for the cruise where I alone ran up a $485 bar bill-YIKES). Plus there is the money spent on souveners and Carlos n Charlies, til we're done we spend more money on the trip than on the cruise/air in the 1st place.

on a recent 7 day cruise, (not including the 10.00 a day gratuity) I spent: 2 margartias approx 12.50, 2 post cards= .70, coke card - 22.50,
"gold by the inch" anklet = 15.00, 2 bottles of alcohol to take home (total 28.50) and I drank the wine my parents bought 2 nights at dinner (costing them approx 22.00 a night, but dad said he would buy).
The rest of the money I brought was for shopping on shore. No excursions. Anyway, I think it added up to around 75.00. Of course, we would have bought more wine had we not brought some on board to store in the cabin for before dinner drinks. 2 of the nights, at teh captains welcome aboard party, and then again ad the Elite captains party, the drinks were free. Thursday night, the champagne was free.
