Shawnino Posted January 21, 2016 #326 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Sorry, the recent pricing for new 2017 itineraries is nothing to do with supply and demand. It is simply NCLs desire to extract more from each cruise customer. It's always supply and demand. If the new, higher fares aren't taken up, NCL will either have to lower the fares or sell with many empty cabins. If they are taken up quickly, an argument might be made that they were "still too low".
swedish weave Posted January 21, 2016 #327 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Nope. You book NCL at your own volition. No one forces you to sail NCL at a sale price, full price or any price. If the prices/terms are not acceptable to you at NCL you have free will to book with any cruise line that will also give you a good experience. Make sure you are educated on what that particular line is offering for your money. Again, it really is that simple. As consumers we owe it to ourselves to get the best deal and best value for our hard earned money. I am a lot more loyal to myself than I am to any cruise line or airline. Can you tell us how you can determine what a particular line is offering for your money when NCL changes so many things from your booking to the time you cruise ?? That is a challenge some of us do not want to pursue.

I will gamble in the casino (with the expectation of losing) - I will not gamble with the contents of my whole vacation (which is what NCL seem to want us to do at present). Jane Don Posted January 21, 2016 #329 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Sure, booking well in advance offers the best deals, but you have no idea what product you are buying anymore. Who knows what changes will happen between now and April 2017? I don't trust NCL that much.

I believe though that despite these initial growing pains of new leadership that they will reach the goal soon of where they want their cruise line to be and then stability will set in. I've seen this in many industries time and again. Disclaimer: I am neither a cheerleader, NCL apologist, negative Nelly nor cruise ship victim. No animals were harmed in the production of this post. For what NCL is charging I would rather sail on an established more upscale line like HAL or X than take a chance with NCL (if I were interested in spending that much for a vacation, I'm still in the lowest cruise fare wins stage of my life). This^^^^ Might as well go with those already asking those fares and have been doing it for a while, hopefully they know what they are doing and how to communicate with customers. or enjoy Carnival for more reasonable fare's. Even if some believe the product is not as good, or beneath them.

CruisinHarvey Posted January 21, 2016 #336 Share Posted January 21, 2016 It is simply NCLs desire to extract more from each cruise customer. Exactly. It's called business. NCL is in the travel business. They are supposed to make money. If their competition is offering the same product at the lower fare, NCL wouldn't have any customers. They have customers. 4774Papa Posted January 21, 2016 #338 Share Posted January 21, 2016 We started cruising in 2010 and our first cruise was with NCL. True, there have been some changes, but I don't think the changes are as drastic as the poster indicated. We also cruise on Celebrity and find that both Celebrity and NCL are pushing the packages, especially the drink packages, which in my opinion encourage excessive drinking. Prices have gone up for both cruise lines and that is not good.

Outside of North America the rest of the world doesn't enjoy that privilege. Cruise Critic is multi national or are you forgetting that.

I think one poster said that they have an issue with substantive things on NCL, but folks have to remember what is important to one person, might not be important to others and both sides should be able to voice their opinions as well, without the few trying to shout them down. No one is forcing anyone to cruise with NCL, there are always choices. If one is looking at price, there will be a cruise line that is less expensive. If their competition is offering the same product at the lower fare, NCL wouldn't have any customers. They have customers. Thats exactly the problem, NCL used to offer an inferior product at lower fare which was acceptable, now they offer an inferior product at higher fare than competitor's which is totally unacceptable. A point in question being the NCL Canada/New England itinerary, there is no less expensive alternative.

luvtheships Posted January 21, 2016 #348 Share Posted January 21, 2016 It's Econ 101 type stuff. A lot of demand for your product, the price goes up. Low demand the price goes down. If they weren't filing cabins their prices would be lower. Not be rude to the OP, but the other lines needed their business more than NCL. That's the only reason why their prices were lower. They aren't filling them as you might think The week before my Jan 2 gem cruise they dropped all the "free" [emoji122] perks thankfully and lowered the prices quite a bit
