I was told there eas a concierge lounge at the port. We will be arriving at 6 am...after over 14 hours just on a plane. It would be great to know We could rest before boarding at noon. Thanks for any help.

Cheryl

I believe that you must have misheard.

There is a Concierge Lounge on the Ship.

The Airport in Tahiti is tiny and the facilities are very minimal.

I don't even think that there is a first class lounge.

If the flights are wildly out of sync with e the arrival or departure of the ship,

they sometimes arrange for day facilities at a hotel.

Not private rooms, but changing facilities and use of the hotel pool and grounds type of thing.

Check with your Agent, or Oceania directly.

Fly in the day before and stay in an air conditioned hotel close to cruise pier.

Papeete airport is very basic . Beware Papeete always around 25 degrees C, always humid. Wet season runs from November to April when it is super humid. Best time to pass through between May and October .

There is....NOTHING tHE airport has no AC and is openair.. Rightacross the street is a motel6 type transit hotel... good for 8 hour stays ( room sold for 8 hour sections...

You will need to get and pay for a hotel. The concept that you can rent a car and drive abound and tour is not a good option

Hotels for a day rate will run about $200-350 cab $60 food $100-150 for the wait ( Tahiti uses the CPF and Euro not theDollar) There are no real beaches to go to and even less public facilities.....

Tahiti, the island is NOT the garden island.....it is acrowded dirty busy industrial port... It is the outter islands where the beauty lies.

So arrive get a Taxi to a good hotel and wait till the shipboards Take a shower... flying 14 hours I assume will be from east to west so jet lag is very minimal. so you might not feel all that tired.

My suggestion on the trip to Tahiti, is break your flight in LAX.for 12hours....See if Oceania will be having an afternoon flight from LAX ( they have in the past) which getsin at 8pm... not 6 am Ask if you can get a business class seat up grade... they offered me one for only$700each.....Take it.. Food on the plane is excellent...in Business

Hey everybody, I believe the OP is asking about the cruise port, not the airport.

The bottom line is that there is even less at the cruise port(really only just a dock) than there is at the airport. If my memory serves me correctly there is no terminal building, just a tent where they store the luggage. You check in on the ship.

We flew to Tahiti about a month ago and then took a Princess cruise. We arrived the day before and stayed at the Intercontintal Hotel which was very nice. At the cruise port there is only an open air tent with chairs - not somewhere you would want to wait!. Many others had stayed at Moorea FOR A few days prior to the cruise. We did encounter an elderly lady from Belgium who had flown overnight and arrived at 6:00 a.m. She had to sit in the open air tent the entire wait time.

Papeete is the capital of French Polynesia and is a busy city. There are lovely portions on the island of Tahiti. On our last day, our flight didn't leave until 10:00 p.m. Princess let us stayed on board (not in our room) and we took a very nice excursion to see waterfalls and pineapple.

We did an O cruise from Tahiti in January. We went straight from the airport to the port without getting a hotel room. That, and the total lack of facilities at the port, made for a miserable start to what should have been a glorious vacation. At the port the tent was used only for the luggage. Outside, there were a very few benches (seating maybe a dozen people at most) which were rarely in the shade. The meager lawn was covered with people (mostly in their 70s and 80s) roasting in the sun. The only indoor seats (a handful at most) were in the tourist information center which is a short walk along the waterfront. Whoever got there first stayed there for hours. There were a few cafes near the port, but we arrived long before they opened. There was a marketplace a few blocks away which was a classic island market and worth seeing. It did have some very tasty hot (and safe) street food. And that was about it.

Remember that when you arrive you will have been flying for hours. You probably did not sleep well. Your clothes aren't fresh and now you are sweating in the sun- and you have hours to go before you can board. As others have said, get a room and feel relaxed before you start your cruise. We wish we did.

Cheryl,

PPT is unlike most embarkation ports. There are absolutely no facilities and the arrival/departure flight times pose a real challenge. If you are prepared it will be less of a strain. The options are few, the best is to arrive a few days in advance, book a day-room, or book a transfer which includes an island tour. The same applies to excursions. To guarantee quality tours, book them online and in advance. Most ports are not DIY.

The one answer I did not see here. What time did Oceania start boarding?

Also, can you leave your luggage at 6:00 AM and go off on a tour?

Welcome to French Polynesia and tropical time.... The ship schedule say about 1 pm, but figgure close to 2 pm Debarking passengers will have their luggage taken to a tent and it is a typical scene that dosent clear till about 10 in reality

Nobody moves fast... You wont have a room, normaly on the ship till after 3pm closer to 5pm.... Time drags on.

They used to open the city hall to let you put your bags but they dont open till 9...

I stress...there are NO facilities at the pier, there are NO facilities at the airport... Taking a tour just off the plane is suicide... Besides you will have the issue of your luggage....

If you cant break the flight in LAX and or get a 9pm arrival ( when O charters the plane) then on arrival spend the $150-200 to get a room and a shower. Trying to do it any other way will mess you up for days and ruin the start of the cruise

Tahiti/Papeetee is an industrial port, with nothing..repeat nothing for cruise ships except a dock... no shade, nowater...no joke.

Thank you.

In January 2014 we spent three days in Moorea and came over in the afternoon. No problem.

This April, I have no choice and am arriving day of cruise on the overnight. Any suggestions for hotels that will provide a private day room. (In a nice location)

Its right next to the airport....well sort of Intercontinental.. However across the street is an el-cheapo... only about $110.00 for 8 hours. There is a hotel down town on the main drag almost across from the ship... cant remember the name...but is noisy

The name of the hotel is Tahiti Nui Hotel. I believe it opened about 5 years ago. It's on a busy street but if you bring ear plugs you should be ok. It has a restaurant and bar. Visit its website and TripAdvisor for details. Again, unless you're a hale and hearty 20 year old, find somewhere to rest pre and post cruise. Money well spent, honestly. There is NOTHING in the way of comfort dockside.

We did the same in the over the water suites. Wonderful....2 days in Moorea and 2 days in PPT. If you can it is the best way to go.

Try the Intercontinental and you will not need ear plugs. Both in Moorea and PPT they are wonderful hotels.

Perhaps the OP, or their TA, should call Oceania and ask if they provide a airport transfer for this port. If so, what does that transfer include, should be the next question. In many ports, the transfer often includes a stop over at some hotel or facility to change clothes, lounge around, eat, etc. I have never seen Oceania, at other ports, bring their cruisers, that have paid for their transfers, and dump them at the dock hours early. If O provides this service, then what does it cost? How does that cost compare to paying the day rate for a hotel room as suggested by Hawaiidan?

Thank you Great Information. Was this letter given out this year?

Wondering if it pays to do their transfers to get to use the day room.

Anyone know cost of transfers?

Thanks again,

Robert

I got this about a week ago for our upcoming trip in February. BUT, they are not really offering the use of a day room, you might read that again. It's a Hospitality area and they recommend that you get your own day room or find something else to do. From the tone of the letter it seems they are discouraging you from hanging out there all day.

Hospitality room is fine, if I can get on the ship at 12:00 We are in a PH3.

If the cost of the transfer is reasonable, it will be worthwhile to have a place with clean bath rooms and the fact that our large luggage will go straight to ship

AS my cruise is not till April 11, I will wait and see what people say about their experience.
