Putterdude Posted December 17, 2015 #26 Share Posted December 17, 2015 Out of curiosity, can't people have their cards punched at the gift shop? I know the on X ships they do so in the gift shops and I think I have seen it also done on Princess ships.

Rare Woobstr112G Posted December 17, 2015 #28 Share Posted December 17, 2015 Just PLEASE no pre-punch. Let those who want a punch, get them punched. Leave the majority of us alone. Personally I prefer an unpunched card. I use a plastic sleeve attached to a lanyard. If someone wants to get theirs punched' date=' they can bring a small punch or go to the casino and they'll do it for you. I seriously doubt that the lines at the passenger services desk the first day or two are passengers who want a hole in their cards. As for Internet vs wifi...on our most recent cruise exactly three years ago, we did buy an Internet package pre-cruise. We were sent the receipt but not instructions of how to utiltize this in the Internet Cafe. When my daughter went to the Cafe, she was told we would have to re-purchase the package (getting reimburse so not going to cost us more) in order to use it. That seemed very ridiculous to us and hopefully that got changed in the few years since. We should have been given a sheet of simple instructions and our initial password that we can just go in, sit down at a computer, and use immediately. Maybe a video on the in-cabin TV can be put into the mix of the various promotional videos that are shown (it might even help sell the package), but I prefer to get step by step written instructions. Of course, as some have said, many passengers do unplug on cruises (we bought the package this time so that our teen will have another fun thing to do, but I usually used it to check my email so I won't have to wade through a zillion when I got home -- other than that, I would rather play trivia).[/quote'] Agreed......:):):) Bob
kwahl1 Posted December 17, 2015 #29 Share Posted December 17, 2015 Personally, I have no interest in hanging a cruise card around my neck, it's not in my gene pool. However, I have no negative opinion re a hole being pre punched in my card.....but it would likely be an extra expense for Princess. Yet another reason to add a few more bucks onto your fare. gremlinbangles Posted December 17, 2015 #31 Share Posted December 17, 2015 I like prepunched. May be a Carnival Corp thing. When we were on Carnival Sunshine last month our card was pre punched. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
RocketMan275 Posted December 17, 2015 #32 Share Posted December 17, 2015 If you can have a table selling soda cards, why not have a table punching cards and selling lanyards? Personally, I bring a small punch with me and do ours. Our last cruise was on Oasis. After checking in and receiving our sea pass card we were directed to the waiting area. Between the check in area and the waiting area was a free standing retail place like you often see in the mall. This place sold lanyards and punched cards. No purchase was necessary. On our last Princess cruise on Regal, the shop that sold t-shirts, toothpaste, etc., also sold lanyards and would punch the cards too. No purchase necessary either. rob2102 Posted December 17, 2015 #33 Share Posted December 17, 2015 Or how about putting that info on one of the TV channels? Unless there was an outcry, maybe replace an episode or so about the wonders of tanzanite or ammolite? Sean I rarely watch tv, my self. Seem like it can be punch at time of issue, one simple step. cvpends Posted December 17, 2015 #34 Share Posted December 17, 2015 The one time I sailed from Seattle, everyone's cards were prepunched. I thought that was nice, and wondered why all the homeports don't do that.

When you first turn on your TV in the cabin, there is a video which explains many things and that must run first, before you can use the TV. So, they could add that here, too. mamaboss Posted December 17, 2015 #36 Share Posted December 17, 2015 From my observations I don't believe the cruisers who wear their card on a lanyard are in the minorty. I also think it should be the cruisers choice whether they want a hole punched in their card or not. Not a big deal to those that don't often cruise. I cruise yearly and the last few cruises we had our cards punched upon boarding at check in. If you want your card punched just wait in line or better yet buy one and bring it with you.:)
UpcountryTravelers Posted December 17, 2015 #37 Share Posted December 17, 2015 Cards were pre punched on Golden Nov 25 cruise. Oh, no, please. (I'll go to the service desk and ask for a clean card if it happens to me.) In all the cruises listed below, on 4 different cruise lines, I have NEVER had a card pre-punched. Oxo Posted December 17, 2015 Author #39 Share Posted December 17, 2015 OMG! I was trying to suggest a way to reduce the amount of people at the Passenger Service desk for the first couple of days to get a card punched. The PSd has other more important thing to do than punch a card hole. Now, we are all upset because we don't want a hole in our card. LOL What would have happened if they initially had a hole in them from day one? If I don't get my card without the hole or If I get a hole in my card! I will never cruise Princess again. AKman2495 Posted December 17, 2015 #41 Share Posted December 17, 2015 As far as the internet is concerned, I am afraid, it is the old "lead a horse to water..." problem. Some people can be led by the nose through all of the steps on internet access and still have it all screwed up. There is no way to write a simple manual that covers all the possibilities when it comes to computer users. I mean how many people have called IT support to have them explain where to find the "any" key...as in "to continue, press any key"... Then there are the people who don't have to read anything because they know it all-until they screw it up. Then they complain "why was I not told".... The first time I logged onto the princess computers I had read cruise critic and knew it was important to log off from your session. I asked the IT guy how to set up the account and how to log off and that was it....5 minutes and done. When I made it to platinum, I asked about the free minutes, he told me and I moved on. No big deal....
Juliayn Posted December 17, 2015 #42 Share Posted December 17, 2015 Decisions, Decisions.....:D:D:D Bob I do bring one of these actually and my own lanyards for my kids. I like them to wear their cards so they don't lose them! My husband and I do not. Speaking of which, Kids Club on other cruise lines do the punch and lanyard thing. Guessing by this post that Princess doesn't!

Just like a typical thread here! However, I will add that I personally didn't know that it was a problem, because I am a NO lanyard person! To alleviate a hole punch problem, I know that they routinely ask in the Casino to punch your card for a lanyard so that you don't forget to take your card out of the machines. I suggest going there for a hole. They sometimes put a hole in my pocket, too..... Hope that helps. Thank you for your thoughts. It was presented in a non confrontational way. trystran72 Posted December 17, 2015 #44 Share Posted December 17, 2015 This whole thread made my day. :D I agree on having some internet instructions on the TV or better yet, as a running video in the internet cafe on the first day. When I went to activate my internet package there was a long line of people who were mostly just being instructed on how to find wi-fi, etc. Possibly pointing them in the direction of a really detailed instruction video that's running might be helpful? I used my kindle whenever I wanted to check email the rest of the trip so I'm not sure if those lines/questions subsided. I'm guessing they did. I say put a hole punch in everyone's cabin in a drawer or something and then everyone can choose to punch or not to punch at their leisure. OR to rum punch... They have a filing station to remove the sharp edges. However, that is only done in the rear of the ship and called the sharp edge removal station.
