BTwurddle Posted December 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2015 Does anyone with recent experience on the smaller ships, Sovereign class, Vision class or Radiance class recall how many gentlemen opted for full black tie on formal nights? Im sure these days most men opt for just a suit and tie if they even wear a jacket but I was wondering now that dress codes have become more relaxed, full black tie sticks out like a rooster wearing socks even on formal evenings? Thanks and happy cruising everyone!

Thanks and happy cruising everyone! Is it bad to stand out because you dress so nice? I'm ok with it. (BTW, I'm not saying that people should dress up, but saying that if you want to- go for it) Edited December 16, 2015 by alfaeric
spookwife Posted December 16, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 16, 2015 my SWAG is 10% tux or equivalent, 40% suit/tie and maybe 30% who make an effort( button down shirt, tie, sport coat. ) the rest are the ones that stand out for NOT trying to abide by the requested dress code. SamFritz Posted December 16, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 16, 2015 I still rent a tux from the ship. DW digs me in it. I'd do anything for her. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BekkaW Posted December 16, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 16, 2015 I don't think you will stand out in a negative way. My DH usually wears a tux or at minimum a dark suit (including on radiance). I agree with spook wife that most people do dress up so even if you're at the higher end of the dressed up crowd you'll still be part of that crowd! We take late dinner and that may have something to do with it - potentially the more family oriented atmosphere of early dinner may be more casual. Emdee Posted December 16, 2015 #7 Share Posted December 16, 2015 C&A told me just yesterday that button down long sleeved shirt and dress pants is acceptable.i didn't want DH to carry formal for one night as the other three nights we will be in the specialty restaurants. Canukdiver Posted December 16, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 16, 2015 I love to see a man in a tux....just as I love to wear a gown. Nowadays it's the only time we truly get to dress so formal. I personally love it!
Rare John&LaLa Posted December 16, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) I always take a tux and/or dinner jacket. I may not keep it on all night. Looks good when you're playing poker with the captain though Edited December 16, 2015 by John&LaLa
cb at sea Posted December 17, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 17, 2015 You CANNOT be "over-dressed" on formal nights...no matter what anyone else is wearing.

BTwurddle Posted December 17, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted December 17, 2015 Thank you everyone for your replies. I realize more and more the older I get that I love to ask questions I already know the answers to. I love to see my DH dressed to the nines and as long as we are all paying for tickets..., right? Happy cruising guys!
