HELP! Lost Driver's License 4 days before travel!

I am on hold right now with Carnival... meanwhile thought I'd ask here. Has anyone ever traveled with a paper copy of their driver's license and certified birth certificate and different picture ID (i.e. Unified School District Badge, Costco Card, etc.)?

DMV takes 10 days to get original card in mail, but they will print out copy. Trying to figure out if that will suffice for both Carnival and TSA.

You technically don't need photo ID to travel by air. It creates a lot of headache and can take a long time to get through security though. But TSA shouldn't stop you from traveling at all. Carnival is another issue.

Will the paper copy be valid? I know the DD's paper license stated it couldn't be used as ID.

Bring your school district badge and the paper ID. Costco ain't going to help you ( voice of experience:) )

Is there no DMV in your area? I have had a replacement drivers' license the same day that I went. Yes, you will have to wait, but you will get it the same day.

You need government issued photo ID to travel -- school ID does not count as government issued. Passport, drivers' license, state issued ID card, those are government issued.

You don't need a gov ID to fly domestic and carnival does count school ID but only for passengers under 19.

I just read a thread a little bit ago where the guy had a paper copy of his license and it worked fine for him (not sure which line). All the regulations say is you need a photo ID, it says nothing about being laminated :).

Some states now use only verified drivers licenses which are printed out of state, so getting them same day can't be done. You'll just get a paper temporary license until the new one comes in the mail two weeks later. Georgia used to print them on-site, but 2 years ago they changed to the verified ones.

California processes DL through one office. Too many issues otherwise.

SHE FOUND IT! I should have mentioned that this is NOT for me. I do have a passport. This is for my friend who is travelling with me! Thanks everyone!

Glad she found it. Hopefully more states will offer kiosks (like Tennessee) where you can get a temporary photo DL on the spot. Very convenient.

I assume you have a passport. THat would be all you need.

While the OP has a passport her friend doesn't and I don't know why you would assume she would have one since it's not necessary for a US citizen on a closed loop cruise.

You can not get one the same day in California.

No, it's under 16 that don't need id. Over 16 need a gov't issued id, be it a drivers licence or state id, NOT a school id.

We have needed to show id every time we fly from Boston to wherever and back again. We travel three to four times a year.
