Bon Voyage Sun Princess - 46 Day Indian Ocean & South Africa Odyssey!!

Recommended Posts

That would be awesome to see with doing a cruise excursion, and so much easier than a purposeful visit to India.

Some people flew to Agra for the Taj Mahal tour on my Singapore to Istanbul cruise last year and it was very expensive.

I think you could handle a land trip there Mic. I think people are put off because they only see the cities of the Golden Triangle, Agra, Delhi and Jaipur but if you go out to the small villages in Rajasthan and towards the Thar Desert you will find India is beautiful.

We did the India tour from Pacific Princess, but we had 4 days and 3 nights to do it . We left the ship at Colombo, flew to Chennai, then up to New Delhi. Then drove in a fleet of mini buses...(an experience in itself on Indian roads) to Agra. Had a whole day there then back to Jaipur from where we flew to Mumbai and rejoined the ship.

It was not cheap , but for what we got, was not out of the way. The sights as we drove through the countryside were memorable and the Taj....well , its a wonder of the world.

The best tour , and the most memorable tour , I have ever done.

Looks like an industrial port.

from Wikipedia.....

Chennai (also known as Madras is the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Located on the Coromandel Coast off the Bay of Bengal, it is the biggest industrial and commercial center in South India, and a major cultural, economic and educational centre. Chennai is known as the "Detroit of India" for its automobile industry. It is the fifth-largest city and fourth-most populous metropolitan area in the country and 36th-largest urban area in the world.

The city is host to the third-largest expatriate population in India after Mumbai and Delhi, with 35,000 in 2009 and steadily climbing to 82,790, in 2011.Chennai is the only city in South Asia and India to figure in the "52 places to go around the world" by The New York Times. Tourism guide publisher Lonely Planet named Chennai as one of the top ten cities in the world to visit in 2015. Chennai is ranked as a beta-level city in the Global Cities Index and was ranked the best city in India by India Today in the 2014 annual Indian city survey.Chennai has also been named in the "hottest" cities to live in for 2015 by BBC among global cities with a mixture of both modern and traditional values. National Geographic ranked Chennai as world's 2nd best food city and Chennai was the only Indian city to feature in the list. Chennai was also named as the 9th-best cosmopolitan city in the world by Lonely Planet. The Chennai Metropolitan Area as recently as January 2015 has been ranked the fourth-largest economy in India, and the third-highest GDP per capita.

Some lovely container ports they are berthed at, Chennai looks wonderful. Anyway I am sure they are having a grand adventure, they will 'come back new' for sure and true.

A night view of Richards Bay.

Richards Bay is to South Africa what Port Headland is to Australia. It is a man made harbour and massive industrial complex for the processing and export of minerals. Direct competition to Australia.

For cruise passengers there is nothing there , so you have to do a ships tour , or arrange for a private tour, usually a safari. All tours , private and ships, are expensive from here as the companies have to spend at least a day traveling up to meet the ship and then provide at least 2 nights accom for their drivers and guides.

For their 3 days in Capetown they are docked beside the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront area. Its a bit like Darling Harbour with a Westfield Shoppng Centre attached. Great location. Tours from Capetown are excellent as everything is within a modest distance. !/2 days tours can be done to the Cape, Stellenbosch etc. Table Mountain is also at hand with the amazing cable car ride to the top.

Just over the way from where they are docked is the famous..infamous... unfinished flyover . For over 20 years it has sat in mid air, unfinished .I believe plans are underway to do something with it soon ..maybe a carpark.
