RCI Cruisers 004 Posted February 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Hello, just wanted to post about the importance of checking your reserved cruises for mistakes. I have read other posts and felt bad for those involved and it finally happened to us. I got on my reservation to make a payment and the price of my cruise had more than doubled and what I owed went up accordingly ! It made no sense as what the price was, as I could book the same cruise even now at a much cheaper price ! I called C&A for help, and the lady gave me a reason for the increase that made no sense at all, but after 15 minutes she finally got the price down to what it should have been ! Sorry for the long winded rant, but I could only wonder what would have happened if I waited to the last minute to make a payment !

Sorry for the long winded rant, but I could only wonder what would have happened if I waited to the last minute to make a payment ! I thought they had fixed that but I guess not. In our case, it was how we accessed the reservation on-line when the glitch kicked in. Royal was aware of it and fixed it without delay. More important than paying attention is to make sure you get that first invoice as evidence at the time of booking. I've read lately that they haven't necessarily been emailed and people had to call back to have it emailed out. Have a great cruise.

Midwestgal Posted February 5, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Problem is finding a good one. Use a cruise planner specialist TA , much diffrent than just a TA.
jchiefs13 Posted February 5, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Please use a travel agent. They can fix problems very quickly. So can Royal if you call them directly... of course, with call centers, sometimes you get a dud. I've heard too many horror stories of travel agents slacking and not taking action immediately when a price drop occurs and costing the person the better deal. As a control freak, I am happy to be my own non-professional travel agent. Judy
Coastalrap Posted February 5, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Use a cruise planner specialist TA , much diffrent than just a TA. yeah, did that. We'll be glad when we're done with him. Maybe he's been doing this too long, I don't think his heart is on any longer. Actually we booked another cruise with someone else that was not a cruise planner and she was much better. I agree though, using a cruise planner should be better.

Desert Cruizers Posted February 5, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 5, 2016 If you find an excellent TA they are valuable in correcting problems with your booking. I use a local one in our City, however, I will add, if you happy with your price & service regardless whom you go with then that is the important thing. Sadly the TA's that have caused problems for others have given the TA's who work hard for you and do excellent service a bad rap. A cruise I was going on a year ago, I was suddenly moved from my Mid ship cabin to one way forward. I just happened to be checking my booking when I saw the change and called my TA ASAP who informed me she was notified by the cruise line agent and told her to move be back immediately which was done. If I had worked directly with the cruise line, I bet I would not have obtained my original cabin as easily.

beachnative Posted February 5, 2016 #18 Share Posted February 5, 2016 (edited) Please use a travel agent. They can fix problems very quickly. We did use a TA and it happened to us last week. It still isn't straightened out. The cruise price that we owe is now $600 more than it was when we booked it!!! Edited February 5, 2016 by beachnative
fred30 Posted February 5, 2016 #19 Share Posted February 5, 2016 The point of the thread is to "Keep an eye on your cruise details !" So no matter how you book your cruise you should keep an eye on the details and check on the frequently.
Rare John&LaLa Posted February 5, 2016 #20 Share Posted February 5, 2016 LOL not true at all. There's nothing a travel agent can do that I can't. If some pricing anomaly shows up, it is up to the TA to straighten it out. Isn't this what the OP was talking about. Plus they wait on the line, not me. I have an invoice from my TA that shows my balance after deposit and they remind me to pay it when due. I have never seen that original dollar amount change. Changes may happen (and get fixed) without us knowing. Every once in a while, my TA makes a change (usually a price drop) and finds other thing on the booking change, like I lose the Next Cruise OBC. She has to stay on the phone with them for some time to get things fixed.
runawaysoul Posted February 5, 2016 #23 Share Posted February 5, 2016 I find it interesting that as cruisers, we monitor the price of the cruise to capitalize on price reductions, and now it can be the opposite.. Cruise line pricing analysts must be former IRS agents... The real question is, how can we be as fortunate as John&LaLa to have a list of upcoming cruises in our sig that is longer than any post I've made on here.. :D

runawaysoul Posted February 5, 2016 #25 Share Posted February 5, 2016 I hope to convince my future wife (we are getting married soon!) of the fun and value of cruising. She's been on one and enjoyed it, so there's a good chance! I failed to notice that you're from Cocoa Beach. Most of my family is from Jacksonville. I've sailed from Port Canaveral twice. Haven't in a long time. Miami and Fort Lauderdale have been the easiest so far. Vancouver was probably the longest.
