CoronaCRZR Posted February 10, 2016 #77 Share Posted February 10, 2016 I just don't understand the time it is taking the ship to get back to port? cruising at a mere 6-7 Knots? Just to continue the speculations, I think there may be something wrong with the propulsion system. At first they said the ship would arrive at 6AM, but perhaps they got issues with the pods and are only able to go that fast, so the time got moved up by 12+hrs. Don't know this for a fact, but like everyone else, just speculating.....
captain bob Posted February 10, 2016 #78 Share Posted February 10, 2016 Anyone who sails out of the north east into the North Atlantic in the dead of winter even on a cruise headed south is nuts and is asking for trouble. IMHO.

Have absolutely no technical or marine experience whatsoever, but would the clearance of the bridge and the tides have anything to do with the slow speed in order to time it right. If there was anything mechanically wrong would they not have some sort of coastguard escort or are they still too far out.

I doubt that would have anything to do with it, as these are the times the ships usually leave port.

libertybelle41 Posted February 11, 2016 #87 Share Posted February 11, 2016 I feel really bad for the folks clicking on this thread who just want to try and get informed information and finding instead pages and pages of bickering by a bunch of big babies that have really no idea what they're talking about, just trying to "one up" the other....good grief. Good Luck to everyone that "hopefully" will get to enjoy their cruise come Saturday!! Happy Sailing:)

Don't know this for a fact, but like everyone else, just speculating..... The port is very busy with many container ships which I'm sure have priority. Since this is an originally unscheduled docking, I'm sure they probably cannot come into port any earlier. How anyone can be bothered with the bickering is beyond me too. Who needs to be right all the time anyway!
jd10367 Posted February 11, 2016 #93 Share Posted February 11, 2016 I am on Anthem now. I can tell you a stabilizer maybe broken and one engine doesn't seem to be having as much output as the other. Ripcord had some type of door ripped off. North Star never was open and they don't know if that's ok yet. Lots of balcony dividing doors are either broken or in the Alantic somewhere. e2011 Posted February 11, 2016 #94 Share Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) They will do everything in their power to avoid more lost revenue. Crews will be working 24 hour days cleaning up the ship and replacing broken items. I am sure many people got physically sick so cleaning the carpets in the affected bio hazard cabins and hallways will be a tedious task. That must be done before new passengers get on board. If things like stabilizers are broken as mention in this thread it will not go out Saturday. It may need to go to dry dock. I guess the Coast Guard will have the say on that issue and I am sure they will do an inspection but that would only take a day unless they find something serious. And hopefully the captain will be put on leave pending an investigation as to why he thought he could outrun a major storm and gamble with the lives of 6,000 souls. To me that is the real investigation that needs to happen. In this world of real time weather data, this should never happen. Heads need to roll. Rare conandrob240 Posted February 11, 2016 #95 Share Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) Recently received same email from them confirming the sailing for 2-13-16 :D Again, routine email set to be released at a certain day/time. Is not proof that Anthem will sail. I still think she won't but we'll see now that she's back what parts they were able to get and how quickly they can fix what needs to be fixed. Hopefully you'll get lucky and they can repair anything that's more safety related and it'll,sail, maybe offering a refund or diacount if some kind of cosmetic damage still exists or amenities are closed. I agreed with you until that final (underlined) claim. You understand that decisions like that are made in conjunction with the Miami office, right? It was a mistake or miscalculation - simple as that. Edited February 11, 2016 by OfTheSeasCruiser

yankees111 Posted February 11, 2016 #98 Share Posted February 11, 2016 You have a source for this? Kind of sad and pathetic don't you think? Not sad or pathetic. dagadget Posted February 11, 2016 #99 Share Posted February 11, 2016 Thanks for sharing this. A very good article! I think it does appear the RCI plans to use this experience as a learning opportunity and improve their weather monitoring capabilities and expand the scope of precautions to include the new shoreside team. Seems like a good response. Clearly she admits it the sailing was a mistake and what I find refreshing is that RCI is not wasting any time looking at ways to try to prevent a reoccurence. As for the Captain, it sounds as if he did an amazing job of managing a very dangerous and scary circumstance. He clearly feels really bad about how things turned out. I hope the current passengers all make it home safe and sound and I hope the next cruise is able to go as planned. Sounds from this article like it will. And likely, as bad as this was, it just made RCI more safety concious and resulted in some positive changes. Perfect this is the kind of helpful posts I like to see. All of us are human and we all make mistakes. What is most important is that we all learn from them and make improvements. This kind of freak storm is rare and was worse than they thought. Now it is time to celebrate the fact that everyone is alive and will be going home. Lets let the line do their work and we will all hear what we need to soon enough. Let's all hope the next cruise goes as planned and no other things happen.
nycglitter Posted February 12, 2016 #100 Share Posted February 12, 2016 I'm sailing Saturday. I have been waiting for a simple statement from Royal Caribbean that says "all future cruises will sail as planned." I got an email today at 3pm that said: "Special Note: Dear Guest, The show We Will Rock You on February 14th, 2016 at 9:00PM has been rescheduled to February 14th, 2016 at 6:30 PM. Your reservation has automatically been moved. We apologize for this inconvenience and we look forward to seeing you onboard Anthem of the Seas! Royal Caribbean Entertainment & Guest Activities" I logged onto the ore cruise site to see how that scheduled change would effect my Valentines Day dinner reservations. While logged in, I tried to book the sky dive simulator as I had been UNABLE to book it previously. To my surprise I was able to book the simulator. Modifications being made to show schedules and being able to book new activities makes it seem like everything will be a go for departure on the 13th. I received the same email for my June 30 cruise. And we received the email before the storm.
