Dear lord, cancel your cruise! I have been reading your negativity and nastiness since Sunday and have had enough to not remain silent. YOU are not on that ship! Obviously you just like drama! God help anyone who encounters you on your cruise. They should be comped a drink package!

Since you were not on that ship either you downplay and disregard and ignore everything those people went through

There is not much positive in this situation my dear, except for the fact that the captain somehow managed not to kill or seriously hurt anyone I don't see anything other than negative here. You really can't sugar coat that.

Actually I have made many life long friends on cruises. Hopefully maybe we can share a meal or a drink on a future cruise (if we ever decide to book another). I would love to have this conversation face to face.

And that is all you can do, as you were not even on this cruise. I would prefer hearing about this cruise only from those who were on it, because only they know what this was like.

i agree. The cheerleaders and hijackers comments don't bother me as its so obvious how delusional they are.

Everyone is entitled to have an opinion its what the world is about. In this care I only listen to the opinions of people onboard. While I am not having a good cruise I am sure there are many that are and maybe even a few who enjoyed the storm. But if your sitting at home in your mom's basement then its probably time to do your chores before bed.

Right? Are these people paid by Royal Caribbean or something? How do you begin to defend something like this. They know more than the pictures and videos show, they say the meteorologists and the internet articles don't know what they are talking about. They say that the passengers overreacted and it was not that bad... They must be paid by RCCL. There is no other logical explanation.

insure my trip dot com.

I have always purchased the insurance, either from the cruise line or independently. Fortunately, I have never needed to use it.

I can recall in my 20's taking my step-kids and waiting until the day before we sailed to purchase because I didn't have the money until then. For some reason, I have always felt it critical regardless of whether I drive to the port or fly, if I'm healthy and young, and the cost of the cruise.

This is one of those scenarios (unexpected weather causing either a delay in return or returning early) that can be covered--make sure to read through the different policies and call and ask questions if you are unsure. In addition, an accident at a port on an excursion, unexpected health issue onboard, etc. Actually, the thought of cancelling within the final payment window and not going on the cruise has been the least of my worries. Yet, I know I'm covered for that too.

It is up to each person individually of their risk tolerance for traveling without adequate insurance.

FWIW, you can get a cheaper one that doesn't cover major med evac and healthcare costs and really just covers for the trip interruption/cancellation. You can also insure just the health/med evac too.

This is a very good post. Insurance is important no matter what your age is.

I think I read on a post from a passenger that RC will pay the penalty for changing your flight. Not for the whole ticket price, just for changing the flights.

What else would be necessary? Free shuttle to airport will be provided. I may be missing something.

Again, I do understand the frustration.

Also it will be getting dark and maybe raining/snow or what ever, give me the option to stay on the ship until morning.

They have been given the option. The passengers can self-disembark tonight (carry off their own luggage), or there will be a regular disembarkation in the morning from 8-11. I assume from that schedule the longshoremen and porters won't be available tonight, hence self-assist only.

I did and I saw 25-30ft seas. You need to put away your copy of The Perfect Storm and focus on what factually happened in this case. Better yet, stay faaar away from cruising if you think 25-30ft seas is "horror."

Please stop trying to interject common sense, facts, and your professional expertise into this thread. It's inappropriate amidst all the ranting and raving and people rushing to pass judgement.

Thank you for posting this first person report. Although their experience won't be what every passenger experienced, it is good to get info from a direct source.

They can't put anything on the internet that isn't true...

On the note that only royal loyalists believe nothing is wrong I figured I would comment. I'm relatively new to cc forums. I have only been on one cruise; although, I have traveled a lot. The Internet, news, etc need drama to get folks to tune in no one is interested in captain did his job in storm, "they" want the tug of war between disaster and hero. I never believe that what we see on "news" is actually the 100% truth. It's always got a spin. The spin is what hooks people. I'll wait and reserve judgment on what should have happened until I see more facts vs speculations which is what everything is right now...speculation and guesses. Weather is the great mystery. How many times do you hear wait a minute and the weather will change. Honestly predicting weather is still more art than science due to the sheer number of variables involved. Meteorologist use computer models to "predict" weather. And even those are wrong. My local channel uses like five different models and still is only partially correct. So after my longwinded comments I'll close with be intelligent folks and wait to make an opinion/judgement until all information comes out not bits and pieces of info trying to fight for your viewing/reading attentions. And remember, no one has died, no one was seriously injured so be thankful for that FACT and leave the rest alone.

What horror??!! They were in 25-30ft seas. I would hardly call that "horror." Uncomfortable, maybe. But horror? Good Lord. You really need to stop with this sensationalism.

With all due respect I think for many it was a horror. Look at their faces in this video. This was just the beginning for them before being directed to their cabins.

As between these two schools of thought, we will have our answers soon enough. There are many armchair quarterbacks here who think they can project what it was like on board. But in a matter of hours, over 4,000 passengers will be getting off that ship, many with microphones shoved in their faces for comments. And it is fair to assume that many, many of these passengers are seasoned cruisers who have seen it all and done it all, just like the experts who have been commenting from the comfort of their homes. And these seasoned cruisers who have experienced myriad conditions at sea are going to be saying one of two things: either this event was "no big deal" and was merely "uncomfortable"; or that this was far and away the worst experience they have ever had in 30 years of cruising with 50 cruises under their belts. I don't know which it will be. I am guessing more the latter. But arguing about it on a chat board is less than pointless.

Besides the fact that many of their "facts" are incorrect, remember that Anthem was not the only ship out there on that day. Other ships, with less publicity, or less people with cell phones, rode out the same storm. Due to my limited internet here on the ship, I haven't been able to see the storm track until this article, but it does seem to me that the decision to try to outrun the storm and stay in the safer northwest quadrant, running down close to shore was a sound one. Most ships running south along the East Coast will either go far out to sea to avoid the Gulf Stream (which would have placed the ship directly in the storm path, or in the northeast quadrant, the worst), or move inshore to get inside the Stream. Even a change of 20 miles in the storm's actual track (probably not noticeable on the scale of the weather maps presented, would have made all the difference to the conditions at the ship.

In your opinion did the ship captain made the right decision?

I am sorry this happened to Anthem passengers. I know it was very frightening and is very disappointing.

Many years back, I was on the Celebrity/ Horizon sailing to Bermuda, and we were stuck in a weather 'system' that blew up around us for 36 hours in 30 ft seas/ 90MPH winds, so I know the fear and the frustration of the Anthem passengers first hand.

I am very sorry this happened to all the passengers. I know that every passenger is in their own place emotionally. I respect all passengers feelings, and opinions, and wish the best for everyone involved.

I am So sorry that your cruise did not turn out as expected.

I am glad that everyone is safe.

Be careful there, the drama queens on here will accuse you of being a loyalist in disguise - you make way too much sense for a CC poster.

Thank you for posting this. Yes, this was not a leisurely vacation for most, but I believe we will start seeing more of these types of reports once the ship docks. Most who want to complain do it right away, those who are ok hold off. I am in no way degrading what people went through as I am sure it was very scary but I do believe the media is blowing this all way out of proportion.

How about we wait for the ship to get back, have it looked over and let the professionals decide what truly happened and just how badly (or not) the ship is damaged?

I'm just going to say that I hope everyone on board is home safe and sound soon, can't imagine what it must have been like on board and won't pretend to try.

I don't want to add insult to injury, but if the claims administrator takes a strict interpretation stance on your claim (many do), your hotel, food and other incidental expenses most likely will NOT be covered under the RCL policy. If you read the definition of end date, your cruise ends when you reach port. Your trip is NOT delayed it is over. Even if they don't take a strict view of your situation your delay benefit is only $500 per policy holder. I worked in the travel insurance industry for many years. I liken it to a casino, odds are always with the house or in this case the insurance company.

Isn't the wording on travel insurance such that the policy ends when you reach your "origination point" (if sooner than planned end date of trip)? I take that to mean those who traveled via air and have their flights covered by travel insurance are not yet at their origination point when they dock in NJ. Shouldn't they be covered until they are back at their home airport, or the date the trip was to end (whichever comes first)?

I can see how those passengers who drove to the port have reached their origination point once the ship docks, and therefore their travel insurance coverage ends.

Yes, exactly the reason I posted it!:) People will certainly have different experiences and also the way people handle different situations will vary as well. And some, well, they will blow it all out of proportion hoping for a big pay day.

I'm sure it was a very scary situation...one I wish never to experience. And one that I hope and pray my daughter and her fiance, who are crew members on another cruise line, will never have to experience.
