Why did it look like all the cabin lights were off/dark? Were my eyes playing tricks on me?!

 

Because they're either leaving the ship or staying and partying. Noone's in their cabins and the pool deck is shut down mostly.

There won't be an investigation. I can guarantee that. The most there can be in this case is what's called a 'Marine Accident Brief.' Similar to what they did with the Norwegian Dawn but even that was different.

There wasn't a marine casualty here and nothing in US waters so NTSB can't really do anything here.

 

This was a closed loop cruise and mostly taken place in American waters, just enough off the coast to open casinos and shops. There will be an investigation.

What about the lights outside the doors? NONE of them are on? Aren't there dining rooms somewhere in there as well? Seems awfully strange to me. The entire midsection looks dark.

 

I think you are overthinking it. There are multiple posts from people onboard saying things are fine. RCI and others onboard have said the damage was purely cosmetic. No one has said that there are any issues with power and we have a few people posting who are onboard.

Could very well be. Just seemed weird, usually there are lights here and there. Looked completely dark.

And, you are an expert in what part of maritime law?

 

My DH (retired US Navy Captain) said, the USCG will inspect the ship and RCI will check out everything, but there really is nothing to investigate.

 

I fully expect to see all these "armchair experts" to fade away or act like they didn't make statements that don't pan out.

There is no money RC can give to make this horrific experience OK.

Somewhere between Captain and Corporate a very poor decision was made to start this cruise that put over 5000 human lives in jeopardy. There is no excuse for that. Thank God everyone is now safe.

 

Really? You aren't on the ship. If the people on the ship feel that way that's one thing. I don't know how horrific it was from behind your computer.

Thank you to the New York Harbor Webcam operator/s for the terrific camera work this evening. Very much appreciated!

 

The New York Harbor Webcam operator is in Ft. Lauderdale & doing a FANTASTIC job. Very much appreciated indeed. So good to see them home safely, & oh my, what a party they're having. Free EVERYTHING, basically in NYC, to celebrate their safe return! Karina (on board) said no one is in their cabins which explains why it's so dark.

Anyone know what's up with the tugboat?! Watching it from the solarium! It looks like it just went around to the aft of the ship. It had a rope hooked up but clearly the bow thrusters are working fine based on the vibration.

 

It may just be because of when they are coming in. There's a lot of traffic in NY Harbor.

It actually wasn't in American waters. Int'l waters, for the East Coast, is 12 miles.

Thanks!! I am happy to be going home after this, but I do want to say for the record that the staff and crew has been AMAZING. I felt like they've been working doubly hard - from the performers dancing/singing their hearts out to the repair guys fixing every little thing to the stateroom attendants building fabulous alligator towel pillows. Very appreciative of everything they've done.

 

Also I just had an AMAZING steak at Chops so I am going to leave this cruise with a very happy tummy. :-)

Sounds good to me. Hope you can reschedule your cruise.

 

Royal has the best staff and crew, IMO. I sometimes get frustrated with service nowadays, but I've got many friends who are still employed with Royal Caribbean and I know they work their behinds off. They'd be thrilled with your comments :)
