The Bag(gage) We Carry

On the lost/stolen/missing wallet thread a side discussion was started concerning what we carry with us when we're out and about on the boat (Ship, I know).

I found this really interesting and thought it needed it's own thread, so here goes.

I wear my cruise card on a lanyard, but...

During the day I generally carry:

  • A Large Pencil Case (with markers/pens/chapstick/meds/bingo dabbers ;))
  • Sunscreen (if needed)
  • Sketchbook
  • iPad (Mini)
  • Writing Notebook

My days usually consist of Trivia, maybe bingo - but mostly finding a quiet place to read/draw/write. I'm not much for pools or sunbeds, lol. I especially enjoyed the seating areas on the Promenade outside deck areas.

In the evenings:

  • Lipstick (that I make one of my friends put in their evening bag)

I have a few of those amazing LeSportsac very small 3-zip bags with a very long shoulder strap. Big enough to carry the sea pass card, camera, chapstick/lipstick, small hair brush, etc. For just wandering the ship day and night. It's hands-free and out of the way.

If we are just wondering around port I take a very small cross body. Just big enough to fit sail and sign card, drivers license, some cash.

If we are doing something on an excursion I take one of those sports backpack type things. With what we need.

I just cart a small purse, so I have comb, lipstick, tissues and key handy! It's a very small bag...it take it to concerts and dances where you don't need a big purse!

If I was carrying around all the stuff the OP has, I'd use a tote!

I have a habit of leaving totes, but not my notebooks, lol

Around the ship I carry my Old Navy sack style purse. Most of the time it has my Kindle, camera, chap stick, sunscreen, tissues, Purell, sea pass card, and daily. Sometimes DH puts his Kindle in there, but he will carry the purse when he does that. For excursions, I bring my pac safe cross body purse.

Carry a coach (material) tote bag (use it on the plane as well) - stuff for all 'activities' inside - LOL:

-sticky notes/pen (for leaving notes on friend's doors)

-tearoff section of funtimes

-tissues/gum/hand sanitizer

-sunglasses/sunscreen/sunhat

-book/ipod

-water bottle

-lip gloss/comb

-small pillbox (meds)

-reading glasses

-camera

This list has been 'assembled' over the years to preclude me having to run back and forth to the cabin cuz I forgot something!! - good for all indoor and outdoor activities.

...and I wear my S&S card on a lanyard around my neck. :)

In the evenings I would switch to a small crossbody/shoulder bag - black or white depending on outfit: S&S card, lip gloss, eye pencil, tissues, glasses, meds, funtimes section.

I carry a small crossbody bag with my iPad mini, lip gloss, paper and pencil for trivia, paperback book, my key card (when I retired I said I would never wear a lanyard again:D), my reading glasses, and most importantly, my camera. I never leave my cabin without my camera!

My evening bag has lip gloss, key card, paper/pencil for trivia, and my camera.

Around the ship? I take POCKETS. I make sure my daytime outfits have these - have added some myself. I always carry my iPhone (to take pictures, check intranet if available, etc.), fold-up glasses (can't read without them) in a very small case, cruise card, and a tiny bottle of hand sanitizer. Everything else is negotiable.

Walking around the ship, daytime:

-seapass card and chapstick in a pocket, sunglasses on my head.

Daytime when heading to the pool, a tote bag with:

-ipad or book

-phone and earbuds

-sunscreen

-water bottle

-Tervis tumbler for cocktails

Walking around the ship, evening:

-a black Kate Spade wristlet which contains seapass, casino money/chips, lipstick

Walking around in port:

A small cross body bag with wallet, passport, chapstick, seapass, phone and maybe a coozie if I plan to get a beer somewhere.

If we are going somewhere we've never been and/or a place that is particularly picturesque, I may take my camera bag with my good camera. If we are doing some kind of beach/boat excursion I pack a tote bag accordingly.
