All Things EARTH... part 2

Anita, downsizing like that must be quite a big deal. I recall that when you moved into the new place, you purchased new furniture, so it isn't that old. If I recall correctly, with your husband working remotely, you can live anywhere so moving again isn't really an issue, right?

I can get rid of things much easier than my husband. I like things to not be too cluttered. My husband, on the other hand, doesn't like to get rid of things. We try hard to compromise though. If I had my way, we would have gotten rid of piles of things. It drives me crazy. Actually, I have often said that from time to time, my home feels a bit more like a house, like I don't fully belong. It took me quite a while to figure it out, but I think it's because I became used to doing things. When we keep something I want to get rid of, it becomes "his" in mind. Does that make sense? So I look around, and although I see things of ours, I see a lot of things of his...I detach myself when it is something I'm ready to part with. I feel cluttered and unorganized when we keep things that aren't useful or wanted.

Too much psychology there, lol. That doesn't mean I don't have things that I cherish. Right now, I'm in the den on the desktop computer, and I look up and see this musical Santa fisherman thingy. You know how they have Santa with different personas? You press a button, and it plays a Christmas song? Yep, I have one out. I gave it to my dad for Christmas quite a few years back, because he loved to fish. When he passed away, my stepmother asked me if I wanted it. But I could completely get rid of boxes of things in here, boxes.

Totally different direction, but I picked up a shirt this weekend at Marshalls. It is really nice. It borders on fire in the background color, but is overall decently earth. I took a picture, but it looks pretty bright because the lighting in my bedroom always does that. I will post the picture very shortly though. I also found a nice little brown clutch. I wanted an everyday type of thing. When I'm on a cruise, this is what I like for dinner. I can throw in my phone so I can take photos in a pinch, my sea pass card and lipstick or maybe a little cash for the casino. I have a very small zip bag that came with a tote bag I had, but my newer phone is bigger so it didn't work. This new one is bigger, and works great. I would take it with me if my husband and I were going to dinner or something and I didn't want to carry my whole purse.

Oh, and hearing aid batteries. They will fit in the clutch. Can't go anywhere without batteries!!!!

Tuesday was my birthday, and I went to dinner with my husband and daughters. We had such a good time! My husband got me wireless headphones. I was looking for something that I could use with my hearing aid, and I liked these. They were very expensive though, so I didn't want to buy them. He decided that since there was only a few days between Mother's Day and my birthday, he would buy them for me. He also has to work most years on Mother's Day. Graduation weekend at SU is almost always that weekend. Saturday he worked from 5:00 AM to 10:30 PM, and then he was at work on Sunday from 5:00 to 2:30. He was one tired guy!

He is such a sweetie.

Margaret, I hope your remodeling is going along as planned for you. It's hard when it is all going on, but it will be worth it for you.

Melody and Sally, do you have more pictures to share?

I need to give thought to whether or not all these are accurate, but based on the discussion over at the fire thread, I got to thinking about you, Melody. I'm a warm autumn, or true autumn. I can wear soft or deep autumn, but hose warm autumn colors are the best for me.

Laurie. In looking at that chart I'd say I'm clear spring possibly clear winter, I can wear black fairly well. My eyes are green tho, not blue

We ended up with 6" of heavy wet snow & temps in the mid 20s! It was nasty!! Here's a picture of Les & I with our granddaughter, she graduated with highest honors. 30f405ab7749ddedcffdd66dcd2df84c.jpg2b5627309b1a5d6d52370a5cb73ccad3.jpg. Melody

Melody, I'm glad you had a nice day yesterday in spite of the horrid weather. You and DH look so happy, and your granddaughter must be a special girl with all her honors and her kind face. Congrats to her.

Laurie, cute shirt! I love it. and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Because of our schedule this week, I had only had one hour to run through L&Ts dress department and find something for Sunday's wedding and brunch. It is so frustrating that of all ther amazing dresses I had to settle for the only one that fit properly. It was a reminder of why Iosing weight and changing my proportions was so satisfying. The dress isn't a terrible choice, but, another sheath, meh. It's a denim-blue-colored lace mesh over a tan underdress. I'm going to wear my nude platform pumps and my pearls. I'm going for a wedding-of-my-husband's-client look.

bluelacesheath2.jpg

For the Saturday night dinner/dance, I'm wearing the brown sequined one from my first (failed) Houston cruise. I'm going to wear the Etsy earrings I bought for it and my nude pumps again. The shoes that go with the dress are super tall, and because I have a pretty miserable cold, I just don't feel like dealing with that. I'd post a link to the dress but PB is acting up.

Ordinarily, I love weddings and the opportunity to dance with DH. But between the three-hour drive and my cold, and not knowing any of the people there, and missing a weekend at the lake, I'm not very enthusiastic.

As for the reno, they've torn out the bathrooms, and the walls -- as I suspected -- were totally wet behind the tiles. Fortunately no mold. It is a bit shocking to see how cheaply constructed the walls were. It will be nice to have more sound-proofing with the new materials. They've also begun tearing up the damaged parquet flooring in the other rooms, which I always hated. It is a total mess over there, in a good way.:)

Laurie, your room is so pretty and inviting. DH and I are also not on the same page when it comes to purging. There are a few things he's determined to hang on to -- records! giant speakers! -- that are just driving me nuts.

Right now I am obsessed with looking at wall colors. Unlike at the lakehouse, where we have pretty consistent lighting all day, our apartment faces west and there are dramatic changes in how color looks between morning and evening.

Somehow I've got to be 56 and still have no idea where I fall here. How do I find out?

Here's a picture with the snow background 86d1e78d1d0dc945b5fce2ea22674baa.jpg.

Margaret I almost bought that dress, but in black lace over the nude--it's stunning. Laurie, love the blouse

Weather dipped to the low teens last night (glad I brought the pots of plants in (my garage looks like a greenhouse!). The extra moisture from this heavy snow will be welcome tho. Melody

I just posted this over in the fire thread, and wanted to repeat it here. I think it plays into our discussion on colors a lot.

I mentioned heritage a bit earlier. I think it is interesting thing. I grew up in area that was mostly Italian, after we moved from the city to the suburbs. My dad always said he was 10% Polish, and my mom described herself as a Heinz 57, meaning that she was a little of this and a little of that.

I always wanted the details, and my mom said she knew she was a mix of things, but as far as she knew, she was English, Dutch, German and French.

So here is what 23andme came back with.

I am 23.1% Eastern European. That is the Polish part, but it could also mean Russian or Ukrainian, and a few other areas. Based on what my dad told me, I should be at 50%.

Then it shows 19.2% British and Irish. 14.9% French and German. .4% Scandinavian. Then there is broadly Northwestern European at 27.8% and that covers areas like Ireland, Norway, Finland and France.

The rest is small things, such as a touch of Southern European and 9.2% broadly European.

I found this very interesting to learn, but my nature is such that I don't like terms such as Northwestern European. I want the specifics, you know? But I don't think there is a way to get more info than this. It was still a great eye opener for me. In my mind, I am mostly Polish, then English, Irish, French and German.

TxNewlyweds, welcome! I don't believe we have seen you posting here before? Based on what I saw above, you are about to leave on a cruise, so I don't think we'll hear from you until you get back.

Tell us about yourself...as you can see from our conversations, many, but not all of us, are earth or autumn.

Great picture Margaret!

State track is over & in finally home (with my poor feet up). I walked 28000 steps today & 26000 steps yesterday (no wonder I'm tired). I think most of it was pacing! We had a 14th in 4x100 relay; 8th in 4x200 relay, Katie got 5th in her 300 hurdles & they capped it off with a 2nd in the 4x400 relay. Very excited for her. I'm taking a hot bath & going to bed!!! Margaret , Great picture . That dress looks great with your hair color .

Melody , I saw that you mentioned Cuba . Are you cruising there ? We are going on a short cruise to Cuba in September . I already reserved a tour in an old convertible . We just have to figure out where we want to go at night .

Sally, we're looking at an Azamara cruise to Cuba. I'm waiting till they offer their bogo offer. May not be till next year. Lots of "stuff" coming up. Our son is getting married this summer, next fall is our 50th high school reunion & following fall is our 50th wedding anniversary. I can't plan anything till the reunion committee sets the reunion date (I don't like procrastinating!). Melody

Thanks Laurie! We leave Sunday on the cruise, Thursday for Galvaston so I should be getting stuff ready to pack. Still need to hem a dress.

Our 1st cruise was our honeymoon November 2015. This one is with the kids and 4 granddaughters. Something tells me it will be a different kind of trip... lol

I have no idea what I am! I'm pretty sure it's not earth or autumn. Maybe you can point me in the right direction. Caramel/golden blonde, light blue eyes, predominately Eastern European heritage... will try to post pictures when I get back.. In the meantime here's one from a couple years ago. ;) I'm trying to get more comfortable having pictures taken.

Welcome Carol!

I just wanted to share this blog...I'm trying to figure out what to wear to our matinee performances in NYC next week. OMG. Knowing that we will be traveling by train into the city and then by subway within...the walking...the soot? I need to somehow be travel appropriate but at the same time honoring the experience of going to the Met, etc., and still wear shoes that I can walk in and deal with potential rain...in high humidity...YAY!

Anyway...rain across this...very fun to see...I like seeing the people in the background as much as the different people that caught the focus of the photographer:

Anita, I'd bet the farm none of those folks took the subway! Whatever you wear you'll look great because your face will be happy. Enjoy the experience & a matinee isn't nearly as dressy as an evening performance. Melody

Melody is right, those people did not come by subway. :)

The opera tends to be dressier than the ballet, and the ballet dressier than a Broadway show. The ball gowns and tuxes would come out for a gala or premiere, or maybe on a weekend performance, especially if there were a famous guest artist. I would be surprised if you saw evening wear of any kind, say a sparkly cocktail dress, at a matinee, but most people will still be dressed nicely, especially in the orchestra section. Up high will be more students and families, but rare I think to see worn jeans and tee shirts. Wednesday matinees also draw the "bridge and tunnel crowd," especially retirees, from the suburbs. Unless your limo driver is dropping you out front, I would wear shoes that are comfortable for walking and clothes appropriate for the weather and the rest of your day. You will look like anyone from the Upper West Side who walked to Lincoln Center.

As for the Broadway matinee, you will see a bit of everything, from jeans and sneakers to a few jackets and ties, or dresses for the ladies. Even for evening performances there are some extremely casual folks amid people who go back to their hotels and dress up a bit for a special occasion. And people who live here may just have to come from work in whatever they're wearing. Lots of variety.

Given how much rain we've been having, I don't think soot will be a problem.
