Looking at marinetraffic it appears as if Diamond has done a 180.

Now heading NE instead of arriving at Dunedin.

Looking at the wind / wave chart for Thursday, there are some large SW swells predicted off the SW of NZ; so a transit to Aust via Cook Strait would make sense.

Thanks for the update..

Looks like they skipped Dunedin and also Fiordland ,I presume . The wind would make the harbour at Dunedin too tricky to navigate. Bridge cam shows next destination as Hobart.

The decision by Diamond not to proceed around the bottom of the South Island earlier this week was a good one.

It appears Explorer of the Seas had to remain overnight in Port Chalmers due to very strong winds.

They were scheduled Dunedin - Tauranga; but marine traffic now shows Auckland as destination.

Not often a cruise ship would do Dunedin - Auckland.

That is unusual to stay overnight. Winds must have got up during the day. At present the SI is experiencing very high winds which is fanning bush and forest fires .

Very strong winds in the South Island, parts of Dunedin and the Peninsula without electricity.

Shame that so many of the cruises are missing ports, better to be safe though.:D
