Andy Posted March 4, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2016 Hi Everyone, Thought this news (via Seatrade Cruise News) would be of interest to our community. : http://www.seatrade-cruise.com/news/news-headlines/celebrity-extends-a-taste-of-film-experience-to-more-ships.html Celebrity extends 'A Taste of Film' experience to more ships ------------------------------------------------------------------- This spring Celebrity Cruises will premiere its new Rooftop Terrace experience, 'A Taste of Film,' on two more ships: Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Millennium. They'll join Celebrity Infinity, which debuted the Rooftop Terrace in December. The two ships will emerge from drydock with the new venue and other enhancements. '"A Taste of Film" is one of the most delicious, indulgent ways vacationers can enjoy a beautiful outdoor space, a rich cultural and culinary experience and stunning views of the sea—all at once,' said Celebrity's Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and ceo. This experience, plus the introduction of Tuscan Grille and other enhancements and touches, are making the Millennium-class ships 'even bolder, more beautiful and more modern luxury than ever,' she added. 'A Taste of Film' presents movies that evoke a specific cultural, culinary or destination experience, paired with cuisine that brings the scenes on the screen to life. Celebrity’s first film selection is 'The Hundred-Foot Journey,' the story of a feud between two adjacent restaurants in a French town. One is operated by a recently relocated Indian family and the other is a Michelin-starred French restaurant. The cruise brand’s culinary team, led by Michelin-starred chef Cornelius Gallagher, has specially crafted a multi-course tasting menu inspired by the film’s French and Indian cuisines, which vacationers can sample throughout the showing. When the movie starts, attendees will be served Indian-inspired dishes such as crispy shrimp with tamarind or beef filet Bombay with mango pickle. Then, when the setting transitions to France, they will savor items such as truffled mushroom risotto, sea scallops with glazed leeks and port wine jus or bites of Valrhona chocolate cake with sweet vanilla chantilly. 'Through sight, sound, feel and taste, we are bringing the film to life, as only Celebrity Cruises can do,' said Gallagher, associate vp food and beverage operations. 'A Taste of Film' will be available on Celebrity Summit as soon as this month and on Celebrity Millennium in May, when each ship emerges from a brief docking. Along with the new Rooftop Terrace, complete with its large screen, lounges, cabanas, soundscape and decorative lighting, additional enhancements will include a significant refresh of the Penthouse and Royal Suites, and the conversion of both the Normandie and The Olympic specialty restaurants into Tuscan Grille. Paddy41 Posted March 4, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2016 We sail on Infinity in August. Do you know if you make reservations ahead of time or on boarding? Sounds really neat.

marti2282 Posted March 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 4, 2016 There was. Facebook post earlier today that said $10 per Person Celebrity Cruises is serving up cultural films with multicourse tasting menus in their "A Taste of Film" experience, which takes place in the Rooftop Terrace, a newly designed alfresco lounge, complete with large screen and cabanas. The themed dinner-and-a-movie event debuted on Celebrity Infinity in December, and will roll out to Celebrity Summit in March and Celebrity Millennium in May, following refurbishments. On Infinity, the Taste of Film experience costs $10 per person. The first movie will be "The Hundred-Foot Journey," a film about feuding French restaurants (one natively French and one Indian), which will be paired with a menu inspired by the film, and developed by Celebrity's associate vice president of food and beverage operations, Cornelius Gallagher. Passengers will follow the plot of the movie with Indian-inspired dishes, such as crispy shrimp with tamarind or beef filet Bombay with mango pickle. To represent the French cuisine, truffled mushroom risotto, sea scallops with glazed leeks and port wine jus, and Valrhona chocolate cake with sweet vanilla Chantilly will round out the meal. "We launched with 'The Hundred-Foot Journey' because it emphasizes -- through both story and visuals -- the power of food to bring people together, and to evoke memories," said Gallagher. benjoon Posted March 4, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 4, 2016 We did the very first one on the Infinity in December. Not a great experience. The food was in Chinese takeaway containers. It was dark and you didn't know what you were eating. The food was all cold. After awhile we stopped eating as there was some weird things. I enjoyed the movie even though it was really cold and windy. I hope the menu has improved since that first night..
CHEZMARYLOU Posted March 4, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 4, 2016 The concept is intriguing but I think it would have to be a warm weather cruise, not Canada/New England (our last M Class sailing) or Alaska, which is our next M class sailing. chill6x6 Posted March 5, 2016 #12 Share Posted March 5, 2016 This sounds like it would be REALLY fun! $10 is cheap. When I look at the way the rooftop terrace is going to look on the Summit...pretty SWEET.

Iamthesea Posted March 5, 2016 #14 Share Posted March 5, 2016 (edited) Yes, the only way to get to the deck is by stairs after crossing the upper pool deck, or by taking the elevator to the upper pool deck and then climbing the stairs. We did the very first one on the Infinity in December. Not a great experience. The food was in Chinese takeaway containers. It was dark and you didn't know what you were eating. The food was all cold. After awhile we stopped eating as there was some weird things. I enjoyed the movie even though it was really cold and windy. I hope the menu has improved since that first night.. Were blankets provided? We will be on the Canada/New England cruise in October. Our stateroom is under and very near the movie area. We are concerned with noise not only from the movie nights, but at any time. How often are the movies shown? Do people hang out in the area at other times when the movies/tastings are not being held? We have stayed in these same staterooms on the Connie and never heard a sound from above. Walking/running was prohibited and there were no lounge chairs for sunning. :) The concept is intriguing but I think it would have to be a warm weather cruise, not Canada/New England (our last M Class sailing) or Alaska, which is our next M class sailing. Hopefully the event will be closed for our sailing to and from NE/Canada, but it might be fun when we overnight in Quebec City. Paddy41 Posted March 8, 2016 #15 Share Posted March 8, 2016 Darn, this sounds COLD, especially for an Alaska cruise. And I so dislike my food cold if it is supposed to be hot. I hope some others will share their experience.
