Carnival isn't keeping up

I can afford two or three (or more) cruises on carnival to every cruise on other lines. I drove my old Pontiac for 15 years until it was gonna cost more to fix than it's worth. Now I have to pay for a new car and am glad I can still afford to cruise. ;)

I guess you haven't booked a Carnival cruise in the last year. There's no way you're getting two or three(or more) cruises on Carnival to every other cruise line! You're living back in the good ole days when Carnival were practically giving them away. Their prices have definitely increased while the product has declined.

Just how do you know that? What if they are comparing two shorter cruises to one longer one? It's definitely possible in 2016! I did it.

Booked on both the Sunshine and the Vista for next year. Combined, the two were less expensive than the one cruise I was looking at on Royal's AOTS.

Compared apples to apples and on the average there's no way the competition is two or three times more. I can easily go find a cruise cheaper with the competition if I look hard enough.

You're nuts if you're you think the Sunshine or Vista are even in the same league as the Allure.

The post you quoted stated the he/she can go on two cruises...maybe 3 for the price of one on the competition. You said that's not possible. I concurred that it is possible and gave you an example. Nobody said anything about comparing the ships. Nor the duration, itinerary, etc. which is why your general argument that it's not possible in 2016 is straight false. IF the poster or I made a claim with those details, that would be different, but generally speaking it is most certainly possible. And I was referring to Anthem of the Seas. Not Allure.

Haha yall make my old butt laugh. Yall don't even know what cruising is. Today's cruising is like a you are a dollar sign. Old cruising was you were a person and appreciated. Take what you get. You aren't paying big money so just enjoy it. Today's cruising is like back in 1966 when I took my station wagon and pulled our camper to KOA. You were lucky if you got warm water in the community bathroom/showers. And you took the kids to fish at the lake. It's a lot better on a ship so quit complaining or spend some adult money and do something better.

Ditto! I can't bring myself to replace the enormous box tv in my bedroom because, hey, it still works! It's 20 years old!

The only place I see them falling behind is in solo supplements and drink packages. Although they are working on those packages.

Apparently things are going well enough without those solo deals that used to come around:mad: Most were on smaller ships and that was my preference anyway.

Don't care about new ship. Need more affordable cruises.

Many posts sum up my feelings but this one is spot on! I was stationed on an aircraft carrier when I was in the Navy, I am not in a hurry to sail with such a mass of humanity again.:)

My first cruise was in 2001 on Jubilee and I'm so sorry I didn't sail that class again when I had the chance. I'm a big fan of the Fantasy class.

My next cruise is (#25 on Carnival) on the inaugural Vista sailing, and, honestly, I'm just not that interested in the ship. I seriously doubt I'll do the skyride. I can't afford a Havana cabin. We have only 3 sea days (on a 13-night sailing) and imagine I'll spend most of that "free" time on the Serenity Deck or in the casino!

I don't need nor want all the newest bells and whistles (and masses of people). Yes, a variety of dining venues are nice, but I can assure you I still manage to overeat even when on the Fantasy class ships without 2.0!

Carnival Corp owns many cruise lines. Every line doesn't need to be like every other line. There are plenty of cruise lines out there and something for everyone in any price range.

I still sail mostly for the ports, not the ship. Some of us cruise to see beautiful places around the world, not to stuff our faces with burgers or go rock climbing or watch production shows. But if that's your main interest, there are plenty of cruises out there for you.

Yeah, anybody that thinks that is crazy:confused: Wait a minute, who could think something like that? Wait a minute, that would be me.

Their prices are stable which is exactly where they want them to be, without investing 10 bill to get there I might add (or adding amusement parks or charging 3.50 for a tiny bag of popcorn, 7 bucks for JR, 14 for a pina colada or off off broadway musicals...... Can't see when you last sailed Carnival, when is that?

MIAMI, June 15, 2015 — Carnival Corporation & plc, the world's largest travel and leisure company, today announced it has signed a multi-billion dollar contract to build four next-generation cruise ships with the largest guest capacity in the world. The contract with Meyer Werft is part of larger previously announced strategic memo of understanding with leading shipbuilders Meyer Werft and Fincantieri S.p.A for nine new ship orders between 2019 and 2022.

The four new ships will also feature a revolutionary “green cruising” design. The ships will be the first in the cruise industry to be powered at sea by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) -- the world’s cleanest burning fossil fuel, representing a major environmental breakthrough.

Questioning the point of your post.....

I went to the mall the other day. It has a merry go round. I guess the mall is an amusement park? So RCCL has a merry go round, it it now officially an amusement park? Carnival was branded as a family cruise line, but yet other cruise lines are more inviting to families. I guess I don't understand what an amusement park is. Plus, the entertainment on RCCL received a negative comment.

Instead of saying why you don't want all the exciting and innovative things other cruise lines are adding to their ships, explain why those items are not needed for family entertainment?

I think it was to point out that Carnival is building more ships.

Have to agree with the others. Carnival suits our needs and our pocketbooks. I am in the group that could care less about wave pools and amusement park rides. Carnival gives me a good product for a price I am willing to pay without putting me on a ship with too many people.

Actually one instance would be no, when you have a merry go round, a wave rider, a zipline, bumper cars, free fall machine, ejector pod and a rock wall, then yes. Glad I can clear it up for you. I know other cruises are more inviting to you, to you the Staten Island Ferry would be more inviting..... which would beg the same old question.

To answer your last question is they don't add to my cruise experience, in fact they detract from it making it more like a trip to Disney.

agree 1000000000000000000000000000000% new and bigger is not always better....

Ditto, I actually like the smaller and older ships WAY better then these new massive ones. Meet more people that way, and things arent so crowded everywhere standing around like cattle...

The brand ambassador commented just today that bookings are up. And the pricing supports that from my experience.

I see nothing wrong with the blend of ships Carnival has. Not everyone is interested in huge ships with amusement park activities. And there's nothing wrong with that before anyone thinks that's what I'm saying. Just that it isn't for everyone. Carnival builds their ships at a nice pace in my opinion. When a new ship is released, it's a big deal. Not damn near everyday news.

It would be nice if they varied their itineraries more, but that's a whole other story. To your point, I disagree. I think they are "keeping up" just fine. Each cruiseline sets their own pace.

I agree. I do think that Carnival itinerary for the Caribbean is a little better than RC. I like that Carnival offers the 8 day southern Caribbean.

This is just a symptom of the disposable society we've become. Ads tell people they need to upgrade their phones every single year; new tech comes out, throw out the old and buy new. Don't bother with leftovers - go out for another meal. Don't wear last year's jacket, shoes, purse, blouse, etc. You absolutely must have new! Just go ahead and buy what you want, when you want it!

There's nothing wrong with refurbishing what's still good at it's core.

Of course, this comes from someone with a 4 year old phone, a 5 year old kindle, a home computer that still runs Vista, and I've had the same winter coat for the past 10 years (I replaced the zipper a couple of years ago though).

Nothing wrong with your style. I agree with the statement.

I'm wondering why Carnival keeps upgrading and refurbing these old ships. Many times things are undone. They have only Built one new ship since the breeze in 2012 and that's the Vista four years later. I think they would be wise to put those millions in profits into new ships. Their competitors sure are. They keep putting lipstick on a pig

John Heald lies! He says its Brilliant. It is not. They are falling behind fast. We rode the Pig Sunshine and it was an overcrowded leaking tub. Lipstick is fading Heald!

I sense you might have an agenda with John, and he speaks so highly of you. Thanks for adding to the conversation though, as usual your thoughts are insightful and on topic.
