geckoaz Posted March 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 20, 2016 My wife and I (ok, mostly my wife..i mean March Madness is on) have been gong through the closets and removing old souvenir tshirt from past carnival cruises..you know the ones they sell outside the shops at bargain prices that seem to get smaller in time...and I was wondering: What is the souvenir you always bring home from a carnival fun ship? shirts? rum cakes?glass on sale? 10 dollar watches? booze? Or is your weakness pictures..lots of pictures..sometimes in same boarding clothes on two different ships...???
RedBeard78 Posted March 20, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 20, 2016 Shot glasses that always break, typically 1 picture, sign and sale card. I might get a tervis cup if they have them at a decent price. They are really good mugs for hot and cold
dmdiver Posted March 20, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 20, 2016 pictures, shot glasses from the after dinner shots, tortuga rum cake, sheridan's coffee liqueur/cream combo once, and one time a magnet.
shamu718 Posted March 20, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 20, 2016 Always purchase a couple of photos, several rum cakes and a Christmas ornament from the ship and each new port we visit. I usually let my kids pick one item also. Last time one picked up a mouse pad and the other has a coffee mug collection from each ship we have been on. Nannydd12 Posted March 20, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 20, 2016 We purchase a Christmas ornament of the ship, my hubby a cap, usually a magnet or a cup. Tee shirts just do not last. We did get very nice jackets on our first cruise, the Victory that are very nice and comfortable. Got our daughter a fleece top on that first cruise that has stayed in good shape after many washes and almost 10 years. Going on Sunshine in April so will have to see what they have. Yvonne Posted March 20, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 20, 2016 The souvenirs I usually buy on the ship are the ship's model, magnet, Christmas ornament, coffee mug, T-shirts, photo album, ink pen, the welcome aboard photo if I like it (we stopped doing formal portraits a few cruises ago). Occasionally I'll buy a new tote bag and a couple cruises ago I bought a pink Carnival hoodie. The only time I ever bought a ship logo watch was on a Disney cruise. I've never seen logo watches for Carnival and Royal. :(

HamSammie Posted March 20, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 20, 2016 ...and I was wondering: What is the souvenir you always bring home from a carnival fun ship? Usually 10 extra pounds, a alcoholic liver, and a sexually transmitted disease. :)

Or is your weakness pictures..lots of pictures..sometimes in same boarding clothes on two different ships...??? LOL...I used to love buying the shirts, but lately find that the largest size is just a tad too tight:D, also used to love the 10.00 watches, but find that I can get that same at home now in Canadian dollars!!! no brainer there. I like the rum cakes, but have learned how to make them easily at home, for half the price, therefore less to carry home. Pictures...have not done that in 6 years. Getting older in my case does not make for photos that I choose to buy at those prices LOL. But to each their own...
cruzelover55 Posted March 21, 2016 #12 Share Posted March 21, 2016 Refrigerator magnets are small, inexpensive, and sort of fun! :) I agree! I, being older than dirt, have collected so many things over the years. '08, Hurricane Ike wiped out all that. I rarely even buy the ship pictures anymore, I want all pics stored in my computer. I had been the unofficial "keeper of the family pictures" for years and had a whole room with some even from the 1800's. Now, as far as vacation keepsakes, I buy a fridge magnet from each place. I have both doors covered on my fridge, and am starting on my upright deep freezer. As, you say, fun, and I won't want to slit my throat if they are lost for some reason!:D

MaShesLookinOutMyWindow Posted March 21, 2016 #14 Share Posted March 21, 2016 Only 1 cruise so far, but we plan on getting another ship ornament, and magnets from each port of call. (We've collected magnets from wherever we travel, not just cruises.) I might get the formal night photo on sale the last day, depending on how much the price has increased in the last 9 years. I generally am not a fan of "stuff" but I'll make a printed photo album of all the pics we take. That's the best way to remember a vacation, IMO. Small ship magnet is a must, I will take the sail and sign card and apply a bit of magnet to it and then put the ship magnet on my workstation with the sail and sign right below it. If they have a coffee cup with the ship/ship's name on it I'll buy one of those too. We always get the boarding photo but other photos will depend (if we are on a sailing that commemorates a milestone, like next year's cruise, then we'll probably get the elegant night photo also). Rare CruisinCrow Posted March 21, 2016 #16 Share Posted March 21, 2016 (edited) I like to bring home a $1 chip from the casino. Unfortunately, Carnival uses the same chip on all their ships. Other cruise lines have the name of the ship. Carnival, please make different chips for different ships! :) Edited March 21, 2016 by CruisinCrow
TomAceEsq Posted March 21, 2016 #17 Share Posted March 21, 2016 (edited) Count another person in with the magnet squad! My wife and I always seek out fun magnets from wherever we go. We also buy those glass and clay masks you often see in Mexico. Edited March 21, 2016 by TomAceEsq

Savlamara Posted March 21, 2016 #19 Share Posted March 21, 2016 I feel silly, I've never bought anything with the ships name on it on any of our cruises! I always seem to come home with multiple cheap jewelry/watch sets for some odd reason that never make it out of the boxes. I usually come across them during packing for the following cruise months later and they go in a donation bin or gifted to some teenager. :D Going to have to at least buy a shirt next cruise. Or anything with the Carnival name on it for that matter...
Foxinspace Posted March 21, 2016 #20 Share Posted March 21, 2016 I can't think of a single thing in common from our 3 cruises. We've bought a total of 4 pics from 2 cruises. No Alcohol We got the endless bubbles glass from our first 2 cruises but not the 3rd. No other logo stuff. I guess we just aren't souvenir people. This last cruise I did end up with a nearly a dozen rubber ducks. I predict our next cruise will be the same. My DD loved the arcade and I expect that will be a common destination for all our cruises now!! OH! I do keep my sign and sail cards. Does that count?? CruzCrazy Posted March 22, 2016 #24 Share Posted March 22, 2016 Refrigerator magnets are small, inexpensive, and sort of fun! :) I've been collecting the ship refrigerator magnets for years, too. I was sad to see on our most recent cruise a few weeks ago (Breeze) they had changed the magnets to a small, flat, blue magnet. I still got one, but it looks pretty pitiful next to the others in my collection. I know they've changed them a couple of times over the years, but still... I tried to post a photo, but FB is not playing nice and says it cannot generate a public photo link.
