Aren't the gratuities built into the cost of the trip? I'm reading on the Carnival website that for an 8-day sail, gratuities are $96. I'm hoping that's not in addition to what I've already paid. I know there are gratuities for room service, and per drink if you're not on the cheers package. What else?

No.....the gratuities are in addition to your fare. If you don't gamble in the casino, book shore excursions, go to any specialty restaurants, use the the internet, purchase anything from the stores onboard etc..... there shouldn't be any extra charges.

The gratuities are NOT part of the fare that you have already paid.

Also note that the gratuities are per person, not per cabin.

Definitely extra...we pay $252 for the 3 of us on a 7 day cruise. I always leave extra for fabulous service

Yes they are extra. There is a per day per person charge, I think its 12 a day.

The 12 a day is a tip that is split among a long list of people that take care of you all day, waiters , staff. cabin steward etc.. Extra tips are not required but we also tip the waiters and the person who takes care of our room.

Hi. It's possible your gratuities were already included in what you paid (or were billed). It is an option when you book. Check your documents.

The drinks that you order have a tip added on, so not part of the daily charge. Room service is also tipped separately, but you add that on yourself.

 

Ad another poster said, you may have paid ahead. If not, it will be on your bill onboard.

Guessing this is your first cruise. Cruise lines pay very little to crew that will serve you directly and their income comes from your tips

Yes, that is in addition to what you've paid and goes to your steward team and waitstaff and others working to make your cruise special. To keep it in perspective a little while ago we had to eat in restaurants twice in one day. The tips (breakfast and dinner) came to $9.50 per person and this was not for high end establishments. For all of the service that you receive $12 is a great deal.

No, but it's quite possible you pre paid them. You would have to check with whom you booked.

 

Gratuities are included in ALL drink methods, Cheers or not.

 

Think of the gratuities as if you are eating out in restaurants all week long while on vacation, and then your hotel maids as well. The rates are suggested, and you can adjust or pay your rates any way you see fir.
