Love to Cook! Posted April 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2016 Hi everyone! Has anyone done the SAUSALITO & MUIR WOODS tour in San Francisco? If we get dropped off at Fishermans Wharf, how far is it back to the ship? Do we just catch a cab? Any other suggestions for excursions on this trip? I have been on over 20 cruises, but this is our first CA Coastal trip! We are really excited! Thank you for the help :D:D
5fathom Posted April 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2016 If you get dropped at Fisherman's Wharf it will be no more than a 10 minute walk back to the ship.
framer Posted April 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2016 I rented a convertible from Enterprise for less than $75.00 for the day all included. We went all over, considered Muir Woods but last minute we went south along the coast for about an hour to see Sea Elephant's 100's of them. Next trip Muir Woods. We also did Golden Gate Park, then wondered, Fisherman's Wharf, etc. When done we dropped it off at Enterprise and they gave us a ride to the ship. Seeing SF topless is the fun way. framer
srpilo Posted April 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2016 We did tis tour through Viator last year.. As replied above, FW is a easy flat 10 or 15 walk back to pier 27. We though left the tour after Muir Woods (great by the way) when we got to Sausalito, had a great lunch and strolled Sausalito for a couple of hours and then took the Ferry back to SF. Great Day Srpilo
DougH Posted April 6, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 6, 2016 A tour to Muir Woods is a good idea. It is extremely popular and parking is very limited. They are going to begin taking reservations in a year or so and parking areas will b changed and I believe a shuttle bus system created. Depending on where you get dropped off at Fishermans wharf I'd say more like a 10-20 minute walk back to the ship, but flat and lots of shops /restaurants along the way. About halfway back is the Pier 39 complex. You could easily kill a couple of hours walking back.
cruzsnooze Posted April 6, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2016 This is a great itinerary. We did the hop on hop off open air trolley you pick up in front of fishermans wharf.
Thrak Posted April 6, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 6, 2016 (edited) Never done a ship's tour there but have been to Muir Woods. Very nice.:) As others have said, Fisherman's Wharf is a short stroll back to the ship. Check out the sea lions nearby, have a pizza and a beer. You can "pre-check out" the sea lions on the WEB CAM Be sure to click on the CONTROL button so you can move the camera around. Cruisin' Chick Posted April 6, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 6, 2016 This is a great itinerary. We did the hop on hop off open air trolley you pick up in front of fishermans wharf. We were staying in Marin County for about five days last month and one day we did take that tour (we started by the Golden Gate bridge area as we found a parking lot that was only about $8 for all day parking). Saw much of the sites. We did take separate days to go to the Presidio (for the Disney Museum) and to Lincoln Park (for the Legion of Honor art Museum). sunsetbeachgal Posted April 7, 2016 #10 Share Posted April 7, 2016 We did a Coastal cruise a few years ago and absolutely loved it. Being from the East Coast it allowed us to cover much more ground than we could easily do on our own with a rental car, and we loved the ports. We didn't do any Princess excursions except in Ensenada where we did an excursion that visits two wineries. It was great fun and they even gave you a bottle of wine at the end of the tour. If you are a history buff, as DH is, while in San Diego you can walk over to the Midway aircraft carrier and take a tour. For us that was one of the highlights of the cruise. Of course there is always the wonderful San Diego Zoo, we had flown into San Diego so did that on our own pre cruise.
