Too much OBC

For our upcoming 12 night cruise we ended up with $850 in OBC. PLUS pre paid gratuities. We don't do the spa thing so that is not a place we would blow any significant money. Because it's such a port intensive itinerary with 8 and 9 hour tours we won't be deck sitting sucking down $8 drinks. All tours, including Celebrity's have been prepaid.

So, where are we going to spend $850? Some of the funds come from Celebrity when we booked the cruise onboard the last sailing, $300 comes from the Go Perk thing. $150 comes from our TA.

Never had OBC left over before. What type of OBC is refundable and what is forfeited if not used?

Usually anything from X is non-refundable or OBN. from your TA could be refundable (OBR) or non-refundable if they are passing on credits from X for booking a group or something similar.

On the second day you will see the OBC showing up on your TV Statement. There you can see the codes.

If you charge anything to your seapass they will use the OBN before the OBR so you will start minimizing the amount of non-refundable that you will lose.

Use it to go to specialty restaurants, take a new friend to dinner, buy clothes, jewelry, or even a GoPro camera onboard, there are loads of ways to spend it.

Why did you prepay Celebrity tours ? Why not cancel them and rebook them on board ?

Then there is always using the casino to "cash out " excess OBC ( if there is such a thing :D )

I'm not sure if this is correct, so maybe someone can confirm: If you've booked your tours through Celebrity you may be able to cancel and rebook using your OBC when you board the ship. If you can do that, it'll use up a chunk of your non-refundable OBC.

We have the same issue...and believe me, this is a first. We have $900 OBC on our upcoming cruise. We already have Premium Drink Package, Prepaid Gatuities, and internet. We almost never do cruise line excursions, preferring to go it ourselves. We can use a bit in the casino, but I really don't do much gambling on a ship anymore. I guess ultimately I could buy a watch or something. I guess it's a good problem to have.

We had $600 OBC plus beverage package and prepaid tips as perks for a recent sailing. We bought an Apple iPad Air from the computer place onboard :)

We did the "cash out" at the Casino. Cancelling your tours would be the best thing to do.

You can always splash it at the Ilounge to buy an ipad or of course some nice Bling !!!!! My last cruise the OBC went towards the Bling. I had no choice because didn't need an Ipad. That's my story & I am sticking to it.

I would have no problem spending that OBC! I'd head right to Michael Kors or Kate Spade, buy a new purse either for myself or possibly a Christmas gift. There are very nice boutique clothing lines as well. Treat yourself to a new piece of jewelry, or once again, early Christmas shopping !

We've always cashed out our non-refundable OBC at the casino. Pay the 3% or so. Unfortunately, I was informed by a friend who is onboard the Silhouette at the moment that it is no longer possible. What they do now is they give you fake chips from the cage. Then when you're playing, you get real chips if you win. I found that very unfair because what if you took the 100 OBC and won 5 hands at the casino without losing a hand and decide to leave? Then you'll end up with 100 fake chips and only 50 cashable chips..

How does one get $900 OBC ?

On our upcoming Reflection cruise we have $1,080 in OBC. This is the breakdown:

GO best $300

Retention OBC from Celebrity $200 - we originally booked on a cruise that was chartered. We had to change our booking to another trip.

A special sale (Presidents' Day ) gave us another $200

Total Celebrity - non refundable $700.00

TA -refundable $380

Also I have adjusted the fare 10 times and the price is almost $2,000 less than when I originally booked almost a year ago.

We had over $1,000 in OBC. Couple of specialty restaurants took care of some. Celebrity cancelled both excursions which resulted in non-refundable becoming refundable and over $750 went back on our credit card.

A photo package is another option. Lots of opportunity to take some memorable pictures on a 12 night cruise.

If anyone is on the May1st - May7th Summit cruise to bermuda and has too much OBC, best thing to do is order up some champagne, soda and juice, and have it delivered to room #6147.

I'll take it from there.

I like the way you think!
