Balcony Smokers on Allure

Recommended Posts

Sitting on my balcony on the Liberty of the Seas, we are docked next to the Allure in Cozumel, so far have witnessed five cabins where they are smoking on the balconies. It is as if they don't know any better, no one is hiding it!! Looks like an announcement needs to be made on this ship about the no smoking policy. What a fire hazard!!

Carla, I hope you will give a Liberty report when you get back. Hope you are having a great week.

Do you know if they have been doing discounts for D, D+ and P on the drink packages? That seems to be the "latest" rumor. ;)

i can't believe all these rule breakers on the balcony. Someone should take a picture and send it to Royal corporate.

Oh my goodness. Why doesn't everyone just go on their cruise and enjoy and have a good time. Standing on the dock and counting how many smokers there are? Taking pictures and sending them to corporate? Please take pics of the chair hogs, line cutters, elevator rudeness, dining room attire ....on and on. I have better things to do on my vacation....MUCH better things. If you learn to mind your own business, you will have a much better time. Why does one care about what the other one is doing????? HAVE FUN.

NO.....I am not a smoker....but I am not going to stand on the dock and take inventory as to how many people are smoking.

I wish smoke detectors were on every balcony.

I'm not a smoker and I don't appreciate those who smoke in non-designated areas, but seriously policing people on an entirely different ship is a bit much.

Please don't spend your cruise time being agitated by those on the Allure.

You mis-understand Champagn123, they aren't on the dock looking at their ship, they are on a completely DIFFERENT ship.

This post takes the cake of all smoking threads.

I'm selling my house, and moving down to Florida, buying a long range camara lens and starting to police water smugglers. It will be my new career, maybe Royal will hire me.

Those water smugglers know the rules; they just don't care about the rules.

They need some type of non-ship based water detector.

Every cruise has water smugglers, trust me they do.

If they would stop the price of water on board could be lowered for those of us non-smugglers.

Chill peeps, she cruises ALL the time so making an observation while she's in port isn't exactly the Balcony Police. And taking a picture and sending it to corporate was my comment - not to tattle on anyone and get them in trouble but to show Royal they have an issue with this rule. I'm sure she's having fun.

Maybe those of us who do follow the rules get tired of seeing others flaunt them - especially when it could possibly be dangerous like this.

I know what you are saying. We follow the rules ALL of the time...but I am NOT ...NOR do we EVER care about those that do not. Why would I waste my time and energy on people that don't? It will never end with rule breakers, so why should I get upset about it? We have much better things to do than count the smokers.

Agreed - I think many regular posters/cruisers just like to post from onboard. I think it was just an observation on her part - I've seen her posts for many years and she's not a "busybody" type. Just my two cents.

Now what gets me riled are chair hogs in the solarium in the morning! :D :D That's my relaxing and reading time!

Omg. I hope it was an upgrade! I would be livid if I had to move cabins because someone next to me was breaking the rules. That's something to get riled up about.

I agree 100 percent. No..it was not an upgrade....just a lateral....but they could not catch the neighbors smoking, so they moved Gambee and his mom. I would have been livid. He is such a nice young man and was just happy to get away from the smoke.

Yeah, I saw that. I felt bad for them. Our guys like their cigars and I confess when I've been drinking and gambling in the casino, I can be evil. But I absolutely wouldn't think about breaking the rules on this - for many reasons. Those Gambee neighbors were total trash in how they acted. Good thing I believe in karma!

Wow! Tough crowd today. If I had seen it I probably would have had the same reaction as Carla, and I DEFINITELY would have taken a picture to share with RCI. If there were that many people balcony smoking at one time then Royal needs to take steps to enforce their policy.

It's one thing to be annoyed and inconvenienced by chair hogs or line cutters, but I'd be furious if I was next to balcony smokers and nothing was done. That's something that not only impacts my enjoyment, it also impacts my safety and that of all the other passengers. I have no problem with people smoking in designated areas...I think the chance of a butt getting carelessly extinguished or tossed over and starting a fire is much less in a designated area than a private balcony.

This is probably a question for a different thread, but why do cruise lines do such a poor job enforcing their policies? What's the point of making policies that allow everybody to equally enjoy the ship if you're not going to expect people to abide by the rules?:confused::confused:

I agree that they need to enforce safety rules, which includes smoking. And only since the rule went into effect have I paid for a balcony, because I cannot be near cigarette smoke.

I have raised children and I know the best way to get people to follow rules is to enforce them. Once it gets out that you mean what you say, people follow rules. Once you make it obvious that the rules have no teeth, people do as they please. I understand they do not want to have an argument and get people upset, but what about all the people who are upset because others are not following the rules? (And it is not that I am a Hall monitor, but chair hogs do impact people who want chairs by the pool. Drink package sharers run the risk of having RCI go back to requiring everyone in the cabin have the same package, Diapers in pools limit the time others can use the pool, etc, etc.)

Wow. Nothing better to do in Cozumel? Enjoy what's left of your cruise.

Just my opinion on this. I love to cruise . I follow the rules ( ok I may bend one occasionally, but not on purpose), I don't smoke and HATE the smell ( I have asthma and it is actually one of the triggers that sets it off. Just a good whiff and I can start wheezing), I dress for dinner and Love to dress to the nines for formal nights, I don't chair hog and I get pissed when I can't find a seat because someone put a kids book or one flip flop on an entire row of seats at 8 am so they can sun bathe at 2 in the afternoon. Here is the big BUT..BUT I am on vacation and so is the guy sneaking a smoke on his balcony, the girl in a sundress on formal night and the person saving a row of seats. Personally it gets my goat because it takes away from the fun of what I picture a "classy vacation"! But how do I know the guy smoking on his balcony isn't waiting for his kids to get up from a nap and he has waited as long as he could (not a smoker but I know it's a hard habit to quit), how do I know the chick in the sun dress hasn't saved for 2 years for this vacation and just couldn't afford one more expense, or the lady saving the chairs isn't on a family reunion with family she hasn't seen in 10 years?! point is we get our panties in a bunch over silly things like who is breaking what rule ( I am guilty of it too!) for what? So we can be upset on vacation? There are cameras every where these days and Royal knows what goes on but they care more about you coming back then the bottle of room freshener they are going to have to use on your balcony!

We had a balcony on the Navigator a few years back and almost every time we would go out to sit on the balcony to read or just enjoy the views the squeaky sliding door next to us would open and someone or a couple would walk out and we would hear the sound of a lighter being fired up and then here would come the smoke. It was very annoying to say the least. We would endure it as long as we could then go in. If we were out in the morning we would get to hear what kind of success each of them had in the bathroom that morning! Such a disappointment to have that happen when it is your first balcony. Almost as bad as someone smoking at the next table or booth in a restaurant but not quite. Please consider others. It did not ruin our cruise but it was annoying.

toxic - agreed. I was kind of joking about the chair hog getting me riled. I'm one of those that just won't let the little annoyances impact my cruise. Sure it bugs me but I just go somewhere else. Formal night - eh, we are down to just not going to the MDR those nights or just getting dressed once - and then changing after dinner so we can breathe! ;) Do I care how anyone else dresses? No - although the gross guy years back on Rhapsody in the tank top and baggy shorts was pretty bad - but his eating habits matched his clothes. I'd rather see someone in a decent pair of jeans than the scary bright yellow petticoat square dance dress I saw at one formal night.

As long as they enforce the no kids in the Solarium, I'm basically good. (sorry kids)

The difference is, the guy smoking on his balcony is presenting a safety hazard. The girl in the sun dress and the person saving a row of seats are not.

I hate smoking, it's a nasty habit and it stinks.

That being said, realistically how is it any more dangerous to smoke on your balcony vs 2-3 floors up leaning over the same edge? Either way ash could fall and catch the edge of the ship. People use this as reasonings but I fail to see how it is any different.

Same with the casino. How is it safer to smoke in the casino. Ash could still fall and catch something on fire.

Point being that someone smoking can cause a fire no matter where they are smoking. And acting like its so much more dangerous being on their private balcony makes no sense.
