Flamingo Grill becoming Margaritaville on GA. :(

I'm happy to say that the Flamingo Grill was in full swing for the May 22-29th cruise of the Getaway. It became our go to spot for breakfast and some lunches. Such a nice not so crowded place to start the day. All the food they had was great but I really enjoyed the fruit cups and parfaits. The last sea day was made especially memorable by a pod of dolphins who came up and swam by the ship.

I can't say I have any plans to return to the Getaway at this time but to loose the Flamingo Grill would be a shame. The place has great character and charm that a chain just can't pull off. Hopefully NCL will leave it be and let everyone enjoy it for years to come.

Just had some pollo, black beans and rice, plantains, and a guava pastry. I overheard someone else asking one of the staff at the buffet about the change. I may have misunderstood but it sounded like he said they were putting it off "a month, maybe three months". At that point I spoke up and jokingly said "as long as it's not this week" and I think he indicated it was SUPPOSED to have been this week, but was postponed. Either way, I got my delicious Cuban food.

Disclaimers :

1) I know the staff on the front lines rarely know what's actually going on

2) And if they do they may be instructed to lie about it

3) And that the lack of MV (which one poster stated had a deadline of June 1) may be nothing more than bureaucratic delay

But as of right now, the Flamingo Grill food is even better than I remembered. I forced myself not to go back for seconds.

Gonna gain so much weight this trip.

You're on vacation so go back for seconds and enjoy yourself. If it helps tell yourself there is a gym on 15 by the spa. You can go there tomorrow. then tomorrow you put it of to the next day and so on ;)

Glad to hear the Flamingo is still in full swing and hope it stays that way.

Man, if they're going to do it I hope they put it off until next year. I have cruise in early December and I still remember how great that fried yucca and the green sauce was. Not to mention the quick breakfast with eggs over easy that was available.

Hope FG stays. The Miami Cubans really love it as do the Anglos from South Florida. Would not pay onboard for JWB MV.

MV now in many locations in Caribbean and in Hollywood, Florida. No reason to be on a Miami ship.

Count me as hoping it doesn't happen till after our 9/11 cruise. If I want to visit Margaritaville I can hop off the ship in Cozumel and turn right.

I hope they wait until after the 10/9 cruise

5 x Carnival

1 x NCL (Upcoming)

We recently returned from the Getaway. One afternoon while enjoying a great lunch at the Flamingo Grill an officer stopped by our table. I asked her if the FG would be changing to Margaritaville and she said they would be converting it in September. She also said they would move 'some' of the popular Cuban items to a portion of the buffet. As previously someone else on CC had been told early June perhaps they will postpone it again. I'm sure many of us have been voicing our opinions on our cruise survey as well as here and other places. I hope it's still there for your October cruise.

I guess I didn't post this here (thought I did), but I got a very long post-cruise survey asking, among other things, whether I was an active poster on CC. In the comments I asked them please not to nuke Flamingo Grill.

(I understand that MV contracts may be in place or whatever, but if they're soliciting opinions I'm going to give them.)

Just announced on another thread that GSC will be closed from 8/24-10/20, 2016. I'll bet that's when Margaritaville will be added and who knows what other fee based restaurants and bars. I think Harvest Caye will have 3 restaurants and bars, all a la carte. Expected to open sometime late November. Timing pretty good to promote both private islands and their fee based "amenities".

Haven't heard a date for the Margaritaville to change on the ships but I bet it will be soon. Why keep giving free food during the busy summer season when they can increase revenue.

Im not hip to all the lingo around here. What is GSC? Im going on the getaway 10/9-16. Something. I liked the flamingo grille for not being packed but didnt care for the food. I'd LOVE margarittaville to be on there when I go. I LOVE Jimmy!!!

GSC is the private island belonging to NCL. More info can be found on NCL.com.

We love Jimmy too! But unfortunately, the Margaritaville on the Escape just doesn't give you much of a Jimmy Buffet experience. Plus, it's a limited menu with ala'carte charges that are priced a bit high for what you get. Thus, those of us who love Flamingo Grill and aren't excited about NCL's version of Margaritaville are not excited:(

The only time we would even consider stopping at MV on land is down at the Jersey shores using casino comp's - however, I don't think - on a ship - it will fly :D

While we won't exactly boycott it on a ship, I wrote in the e-survey - don't count on us paying a dime extra for.

As for Uptown Grill - it was very popular and full of a passengers on the Breakaway, with a long line ... as it was complimentary still, last month & up till this week (no reports of changeover to the contrary ... yet) ... Although, they already removed those over-sized sofa chairs & loungers under the shades, one of my favorite spot to hangout (replaced with more tables & chairs)

Shanghai Noodles as "paid" a lar carte dining was empty and a failure then ... now that it's free & complimentary, with no extra 18% surcharge or whatever it's called - you need to stand in line, wait & take a pager, 20+ minutes wait time was not uncommon.

To each her/his own ;)

I'm also hoping for multiple postponements, as we don't sail on the Getaway until January. While I love the song Margaritaville, I sure don't want to (and won't) pay extra for a silly chain restaurant. I've been to the Margaritaville in Las Vegas and it was fine, but certainly nothing special. Give me yummy Cuban food instead!
