Out of Iowa Posted May 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2016 when you return? It seems like the number of reviews is nowhere near the numbers of people who join a given Roll Call, for example. beachbum53 Posted May 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2016 To answer your question, no, I don't make such a pledge. I may post something to the effect "Just returned from a cruise on ___________. We had a great time. Looking forward to our next cruise on ______. Any questions?" The exception to that would be a review about a particular excursion. May be too involved with researching my next cruise or land vacation. Then I'll get involved on CC or TA threads. It's also a PITA to post pics on CC, much easier on TA. Sorry. loupana Posted May 9, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 9, 2016 I will be posting a full photo review of our Carnival Vista Cruise which is coming up this week, May 14 - 24, 2016 when we return. Look for it starting May 25 or 26. Providing there are not several other Vista Reviews going on at the same time...who am I kidding I'll probably post it anyways, the more the merrier. GradUT Posted May 9, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) I always post a review under the "Members Review" when I complete a cruise. Because I find a thorough and well-written one to be a valuable aid when I am considering ships to sail, I try to "pay-it-forward" by submitting thorough reviews of my own. You can look for my review of the Imagination at the end of August/first of September. Edited May 9, 2016 by GradUT

Catrin Posted May 10, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 10, 2016 I have written a long review/diary for the last five cruises. I do it not only to give a review or help new cruisers, but its nice to look back at years later. The one thing I have noticed on the last two however, is that very few people comment lately. Sometimes I feel like I just wrote it for myself (which is fine too). If you do enjoy reading reviews, please always comment... even just to acknowledge you are reading them!! Steve Dore Posted May 10, 2016 #12 Share Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) No, it is an outdated process that takes too much time. You have to write it, upload photos to a third party site, and then link them to here. I would do something it is a more modern process that could incorporate Carnival's new wifi plan. For example, I saw someone offered to do a Instagram live photo review but Cruise Critic nixed the idea because they claimed it was advertising another site. So until Cruise Critic joins the 21st Century. No. Edited May 10, 2016 by Steve Dore
Catrin Posted May 10, 2016 #13 Share Posted May 10, 2016 Some reviews are written more like a diary of their cruise, not things about the ship and this is what people want.(ship info). Well, to make a statement "this is what people want" is subjective. SOME people want simple facts. SOME people enjoy the diary type of review. SOME people like both. Mine may be a daily diary, but I have provided a lot of information too.

There have been many reviews left only partially completed so many people won't start reading them until they are almost or completely finished. I know I've had a lot of lag time when writing my reviews - some days I can post tons and other times, it'll be days between postings. Detailed, picture reviews are kind of thankless - UNLESS you are one of the board favourites where people are waiting on baited breath for their next reviews. They have their groupies. Reviews are very helpful to other travelers. Please write and submit yours! Nope. I do it on my own Facebook page. People aren't rude there if you post something they don't agree with.n or if they are, I question their friendship. They can certainly question any experience without being rude, or being asked if you were drunk when such and such happened. It's amazing the amount of non posters here that are merely commenters on others posts.
Out of Iowa Posted May 10, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted May 10, 2016 GradUT and Hobbsey for your willingness to write and add something to the cruise reviews section! Readers like me appreciate reviews when making next plans! The reviews that are posted on this Carnival area can begin great, lots of photos...then sometimes they are not completed. Disappointing. So thanks again to GratUT and Hobbsey and people like 'em.

Sorry, I just don't feel obligated to spend a few hours writing out a review but I am grateful for the people who have the time luxury as I love reading them. Looking forward to yours Lou as well as a few others! As to the OP, nope can't make such a pledge. I appreciate reviews although some of them are an exhausting read but I doubt I will do one. They are time consuming and people pick apart everything you say. I will probably post some pics and answer questions, etc. as I've always done. I will get more in depth on FB. Rare Tapi Posted May 10, 2016 #22 Share Posted May 10, 2016 Not everybody has "the gift" of writing reviews. Personally, I'm not a fan of the ones that are dragged over posts and posts and posts, over days and days and days, and over comments and comments and comments. The thread will hit 200+ posts before the darned thing is finished! [emoji36] I almost never finish reading these. I DO love photo reviews, but not the ones that spend about a third of its content detailing the drive from Cleveland down to Port Canaveral and the stop at the cookie cutter Days Inn on the side of the interstate somewhere in Kentucky, with 30 photos devoted to the kids playing at the pool, the hotel room, and the continental breakfast. But with that said, I appreciate photo reviews that do include pre or post cruise photos that are relevant to the port of embarkation or that may be unique. My favorite reviews include photos and are written in advance so the entire content is posted at the beginning of the thread in sequential order (somewhat like the way that I write reviews. poz222 Posted May 10, 2016 #23 Share Posted May 10, 2016 Let's see... Typical CC review these days... Here is how it goes... First 2 pages = pics of packing luggage, airport, and pre-cruise hotel (including breakfast). Page 3 = everyone's comments about how they are "following" and "thanks, can't wait to see more" Page 4 = Embarcation (including pic of ship in distance and walking gangway) and ship tour (before sail away) Page 5 = sailaway pics & Comments about how everyone can't wait to hear more Page 6 = First dinner (with menus and food porn) and towel animal Page 7 = Fast review of the day's activity and fun times, maybe dinner pic Page 8= Apology for not getting back sooner to the review but got busy, then a few pics of first port... page 8-9 = comments about port and a few questions about menus and fun times, then apology from review writer about being busy.... 9-10 = comments asking about where the OP went End of page 10 (maybe if we're lucky) a one paragraph summary of days 4-7 of the cruise, no pics... Or nothing more from OP...just Fades away leaving the readers hanging to wonder if they finished the cruise or fell off the face of the earth! Anyway, i commend those who write the reviews, wish my attention span was long enough to do them...but Since I don't, I instead read and enjoy the reviews of others (but I wait till they have more than 11 pages so I don't get left hanging with someone's half finished review! So to them cheers and thanks!

Followed by another 10 pages of comments then responses to comments. I love pics but to a point and I don't need a minute by minute chronicle. People can write however they like but personally I prefer a review exactly as how you describe. I don't know that writing a review is a gift but I give any of them a certain amount of credit because of the time they take to compose. I admit I don't have the patience or the time. Once we're back, I'm on to the next trip. Information on excursions and cabin reviews interests me the most. JMO.
