Any tricks to boarding the Oasis?

Recommended Posts

This will be our first cruise and we have kids. Is it a long check in process?

No, Oasis has the most efficient terminal that Royal uses at Port Everglades. Should be very quick.

Terminal 18 is the best one I've sailed from. You'll be seated based on your RCCL history, and they will call your group to get into check in line when they're ready. Till the. You'll be comfortably seated. There are restrooms. Bring something to occupy the kids and it will go by fast.

As Bob said, its usually a quick process. I would suggest you not show up until after 11:30am. They usually don't allow people on the ship until around 11:00am. So if you show up before 11 with your kids. You will have to wait after check-in, until the ship is clear of people from previous cruise.

Also the rooms usually aren't ready until about 1:00pm or 1:30pm. So that is another thing to consider. If you rather wait until 1pm to check in at the cruise terminal.

Most ships from start to finish is about 1 hour. Keep in mind, you have many little lines that add up to a longer process. Plus you have some walking to do. Therefore it takes up time, without just sitting around.

The other trick is if your really don't want to sit and wait, do not arrive too early. As others said, arrive after 11:00 and maybe a little later. If you arrive, and they did not start boarding, than you will have to sit and wait.

It's NOT like boarding a plane...it's more like checking into a hotel, procedure-wise.

If you arrive BEFORE boarding has started, those with status of some sort will be allowed on before you...but once check-in is underway, it's really "first come, first served". There is a separate line for suites and Diamonds, etc....but that won't affect your boarding once they've opened the ship's doors.

I would aim to get to the ship around 11:30....boarding will be ongoing, and shouldn't take too long!

I am going to disagree with the do not show up before 11:30.

We just sailed with another couple 2 weeks ago on the Oasis. We are just hold level and the other couple were new cruisers.

We arrived at terminal at 10:45 and were on the ship were on the ship before 11:30. They spilt the lines by cabin level and the process is the best we seen.

I would say arrive between 10:30 and 11:00. On this ship the real early folks who wait are on the ship by then.

My tip is this and we have done it on our last 3 Royal Cruises.

Arrive early as I said. Check everything you can except a small carry on bag with your swimsuit, sunscreen and things that you just don't want to check. Ipad cameras, wine etc. and go to the wide open pool deck. You have a choice of any chair. Bars are open. Why waste half the day waiting for your luggage?

We enjoy the less crowded pool. On the Oasis my wife stated at the pool with our back pack and I went down to the Park Cafe and brought back a couple of great Roast Beef Sandwichs and chips to eat at the pool

if you have a star class cabin, they personally escort you on the ship to your cabin as soon as you get there

I have to ask...why is there a "bug" walking on the screen SISOCIALWORKER in your message??? It's cool...but creepy! I almost called the IT department as I'm at work!

I meant to say we just carry on a backpack and a small tote bag. Checked everything else. It is not like you have a bag limit like the plane.

Final tip for the oasis. But about boarding though. On the Oasis you can eat breakfast lots of places besides the Crowded windjammer. Johnny Rockets the wipe out cafe and the Park Cafe are great Alternatives all free and quick for breakfast. Love the pancakes at Johnny Rockets.

We just did last last week. There was a line to get thru security but it really was not too bad. Once thru it did not take but a few minutes to check in. this was around 11:30am

Exactly what we experienced last week at 11:30, also. About 15 minutes on security line, walked right up to check in, immediately on the ship.

Another question, we are Platinum members and have 6 in our party. The other 4 are either Gold or not members at all. Can our entire group of 6 come with us through the Platinum Line?

Depends on the port personnel. If they don't let the other members stay with you in the Platinum line and waiting area, then just stay with them in the non-priority line. The difference is not significant.

We were also on last week. We arrived at the port early, around 10:15, because we were staying on the beach and wanted to get ahead of the air show traffic. We had no line at security or check in, though all check in were busy. Waited upstairs until just after 11 when they finally found the 6 people from the prior cruise that were on the ship. B2bers were supposed to go through customs at 10:15 but because of the strays, they got on the ship just after 11. We were on the Royal Promenade at 11:15.
