Eastern Caribbean & Zika Virus

Looking to book a cruise in the summer for Eastern Caribbean (Puerto Rico, Haiti, Saint Maarten) and prices seem too good but just worried about zika virus. What's the situation in those places for those of you who have gone recently? Anyone have an idea?

 

Also, can 3 people sleep in a balcony room? Where would the 3rd person sleep?

They also give tips on how to avoid being bitten. Worth the read, in my opinion.

Yes 3 can sleep in some balcony rooms. There will either be a sofa bed or pullman for a 3rd or 4th person. Look on the deck plans for those rooms or call and they will help you.

 

Personally our kids have found the pullman beds much more comfortable, however not all ships have them any more.

The greatest risk is to pregnant women. Otherwise it is not a serious threat to the general public in terms of health risks.

 

We were in those places (except Labadee) in March and had no ill effects. Then again no one in our party was pregnant. ;)

There is also the problem that men who contract Zika may pass it on to their partners when they return home.

Shoot...Zika is going to be everywhere in the next couple years....just take precautions if you are pregnant or planning to be. Thank goodness I'm well past that! And, mosquitoes do NOT like me at all...but daughter and hubby...they think they're delicious!
