How much are scooter rentals at Kings Wharf?

http://www.oleandercycles.bm/index.php/rentals/rental-rates

$136 for 3 days.

I've rented from Oleander twice. The 2nd time when I've had more experience on a moped, I got through the fitting & ride test really fast. If you aren't familiar w/moped riding, you should try to get a few rides in on a rental here before heading over there. The goal is to only worry about the traffic & driving the wrong side of the road, not the technicalities of the moped :)

Also, last time I was there, wherever you parked your moped it WILL get cracked open and everything stolen from the compartment. So bring everything with you at the remote beaches and you'll be fine.

Have fun in Bermuda, beautiful place.

Tourists renting scooters in Bermuda is a bad idea. I have seen many return to the ship on my Bermuda cruises with scrapes and slings. I know someone who had a scooter accident in Bermuda and broke her pelvis. They roads are curvy, narrow and there is no shoulder. They drive on the other side.

This past Monday a passenger was seriously injured from Anthem of the Seas. He was on his honeymoon. He was an experienced motorcyclist. You can read his wife's comments following the Bermuda News article.

I agree with Charles. Although I did not rent one the first time I visited ( I have a friend that lives there and she drove me everywhere) I saw many tourists trying to maneuver on the opposite side of the road and in very tough situations. The locals are very friendly about it (at least the ones I was in the car with) but it scared me to think of myself attempting it unless you are very well practiced on one. I will be using all modes of public transportation as well as my friend again when I visit in a couple of weeks aboard the Summit this time. My first visit was a 5 night stay with my friend.

Agree!

On my cruise in 1987 on MV Atlantic (Home Lines), a husband and wife rented scooters. He did not come back alive.

Never forget that Bermuda, like the UK, traffic keeps to the LEFT, not the right. Even if on a scooter this can be quickly confusing if you are used to driving in the right lane.

We've been to Bermuda twice before and both times there were multiple people walking around bandaged after renting scooters. The roads aren't designed for them and in some places there are walls with no room to maneuver.

We're going back in July on Summit and expect to see more bandaged passengers.

Are the best beaches accessible by bus?

Yes, there are bus stops near the best beaches. The walking distances from the bus stop near the best beaches vary, but ¼ mile would be a fair assumption. Most beaches have access roads off the bus route.

During our honeymoon in Bermuda ,thirty-three years ago, I had a scooter accident on the road leading to the Southampton Princess Hotel ( now Fairmont) beach club.

The staff at the beach club was most helpful as I was transported to the hospital.

Luckily, the injuries were not serious, mostly scrapes and "road rash" but I was most uncomfortable for the remainder of our honeymoon.

If I was given a free scooter rental, I would not take the offer.

Ask any Bermuda resident what they think of tourists using scooters and most would tell you that it is not a good idea.

Be safe and enjoy this beautiful place using a bus ,taxi or ferry for transportation.

Worst road rash I have ever seen was on a young bride on one of our Bermuda cruises. The couple was at the table next to us for the week. One day they weren't at dinner (no surprise for newlyweds!), unfortunately, the next night, they were back and she was wearing shorts and a tank top. Probably the only thing she could comfortably wear, her arm, shoulder, and leg were completely raw from a scooter fall.
