Can't bring soda on board anymore

Are you already in any penalty phase if you cancel?

Only Owners Suites, Deluxe Owners Suites, and Garden Villa get unlimited free cans of soft drinks plus bottled still and sparkling water (plus either 3 or 6 free bottles of booze).

Thanks for clarifying. Yes, we are in cancellation, but this isn't a deal-breaker fir us. I don't drink much soda, DH prefers Coke but will drink Pepsi if that's the only option and we have OBC that should cover incidentals like bottled water. We have last year's promos, so I don't anticipate many "extras."

I was just curious because I didn't think we had any beverages in cabin included but thought maybe I missed something.

We are leaving on the Jewel from Seattle to Alaska on July 30 and just received the email this morning at 5:18 a.m. so it seems they are batching their emails.

I've already sent an email and I'm on hold with them now. We are in the Haven Owners Suite and it shows the complimentary water at embarkation, but not anything later. Trying to clarify and share (politely) my frustration at this change 2 weeks prior to our cruise.

So, the confirmation was that it is 1 bottle of water for the first day. The person I spoke with said she hadn't received any calls about it and said there's nothing she can do about it. Obviously expected to hear that, but didn't expect to hear that she had not received any other complaint calls.

I always cruise in a SF suite and I get a 1 liter bottle of water upon arrival. I don't believe it is unlimited, but my cabin stewards have always brought me additional bottles when needed at no charge, not sure why but they do. I also ask for a pitcher of water and iced tea to be in the mini fridge daily.

Our steward on RCCL did the same thing last year. We appreciated it and basically bumped up his tip by about what the water would have cost anyway!

I purchased the max number of cruise next certificates on my last cruise and I will probably be looking for a refund on them or denying payment to the CC company since their product is not what it was when I bought it.
If you do call for a refund, could you please report back on what they say and if you are successful or not, as it would be of interest to those that have the cruise next certificates and want to do the same.

Just paid balance of our cruise, hey this new policy won't stop me enjoying it but I fail to see how they will police it when boarding the ship. They WILL still scan bags when you embark at any port so it certainly won't save them any time but as you can't get on an aircraft in europe with liquids it won't bother me unduly, I like sparkling water and usually take a couple of bottles with me but Im not going to lose any sleep if I have to buy some on board. I can sort of understand where NCL are coming from but I still think it will be difficult for them to enforce especially if drinks are bought after security at ports. We shall see.

LMAO!!!!

This might be the news of the century to you, but trust me, the world in general doesn't give a fat rat's ass and shouldn't. HAHAHAHAHA! Funniest post ever.

"Twenty hostages killed in attack in Bangladesh, and in other news - self-important woman has to suffer a 7 day cruise without her Diet Coke."

LMAO!!!!

You believe the media pick stories based on importance or newsworthiness ?

Now that's funny ! Have you actually watched what passes for news these days ?

The truth is most would rather hear this story then about another terrorist attack .

Welcome to the media world of today .

Just seen this, is it REALLY going to be the end of the world if you have to pay for some drinks?

It is if you prefer a certain brand over NCL's..

We for one like to have some cans of Coca Cola and some bottled water in the room's (emptied) minibar.

I think we're done with NCL for now.. edit; if only X would do grotto's and water slides on their new ships LOL

Read through the thread. A lot of people bring on drinks they have a strong preference for that NCL does not offer. Others are offended that NCL will deny bringing water bottle, but sell them at extreme mark up. My calculation is the policy will add about $100 to my two week cruise. Not tremendous, but adds to a long list of bad policies/cutbacks/added costs that already made me think hard before I made the booking. Luckily I can cancel, alot of people can't and planned on bringing their preferred water/soda. It is an obvious over action by NCL that was poorly thought out as other cruise lines already have much better policies.

You must have a real problem if you feel the need to ridicule people on these boards.

Careful Bill, telling people they "have a real problem" is a form of ridicule.

I hear your phone ringing . . .

I just wanted to find if *anyone* who is NOT yet in a penalty phase to cancel has received the official email directly from NCL.

It's more than "a bit odd" that we haven't received a notification directly from NCL for *any* of our reserved cruises, none of which are yet in penalty phase...

Thanks!

(We won't drink Pepsi, and if NCL would at least *sell* us Diet Coke, this wouldn't be such a problem for us. But NCL'a apparent policy of only notifying passengers *after* they would have to pay a penalty to cancel... that is another thing entirely!)

Im not disagreeing with you on this but in the light of heightened threats in Europe I for one don't mind the policy as long as its completely adhered to by the ships staff as well as passengers. Having been on numerous cruises with NCL I have noticed staff often go on board without being checked and scanned. NCL should not use this new policy as a way to get passengers to pay more, or am I being cynical?

You could go to a few roll calls about to hit final payment and ask there.

It is easy to express your concerns here. I recommend taking this to their reservations lines and the guest services on the ship for those of us already locked in. I spent about 15 min on the phone with a supervisor yesterday with my list of issues. Plan to spend time talking to someone on the ship in a few weeks too. Maybe a waste of time, but I want them to be aware that the loss of business is real. I will not be booking any cruise on this ship or buying any more NCL cruise credits which is standard for me on just about every cruise I have taken.

Did you try calling your PCC and asking if you were going to get an email before your penalty phase kicks in?

The policy has nothing to so with security in the way you are thinking. It is NCL new-speak blurring the term and being used regarding too much effort spent by their "security" checking for smuggled contraband.

You know even if the poster you quoted does report back as unsuccessful that shouldn't deter other from calling and asking for a refund

Tie up their lines with requests for refunds

Let them know that is how we are fighting back

Of course none of this means we actually must cancel those certs....but just calling to say you might be doing so if they continue this policy will get their attention

Strength in numbers....and verbal arguments too

No joke, and they have the nerve to say these prices are 30%-55% off (Off what I ask as I can buy the 24 pack for $3.99). Also this price does NOT include the 18% charge:

ships except Pride of America

Item # Description Price Savings

WBP6 6-pack (1-liter bottles) $22.95 USD 30%

WBP12 12-pack (1-liter bottles) $39.95 USD 39%

WBP18 18-pack (1-liter bottles) $49.95 USD 50%

WBP24 24-pack (1-liter bottles) $59.95 USD 55%

Note: 18% gratuities & service charge will be applied at time of purchase

As a side note........I bet this thread has a post count of about 500 by the end of the weekend.

I guess I miscalculated how upset everyone would be, it only took 1 day to hit the 500 mark. To the people that call to refund your FCC's, let us know what the outcome is.

Of course if you pressed Ncl hard enough they would probably come up with some sort of terrorism thing....which starts on July 15 of course

Ncl is so obvious it borders on ridiculous

They must think we are total idiots,,..but then again newbie first time cruisers are definitely in lala land....and Ncl knows it....and knows those cruisers will buy into anything

I've been saying it since the fdr reign of garbage started.....Ncl only want newbie uninformed non savvy cruisers going forward.

The outcome will probably not be favorable....but the point is to call and keep calling with the threat to cancel the certs

A previous poster reported a cancel of cert success months after she purchased them.
