More wine please

I know that we are allowed to bring a bottle of wine each with us onboard. Are we allowed to buy more wine at different ports and bring back on ship for consumption during the cruise? If not, can we purchase more wine once onboard the ship from the store onboard and use it in our room?

No you can't bring wine on at ports for use while onboard. You can order a small selection of wine online before you go for use in the cabin. Any alcohol purchased in the store will be kept until the last night and delivered to your state room.

It depends on the itinerary. On cruises in the Med when some excursions were to vineyards via the cruise line, many people purchased wine and brought it back on board and it was not taken away. Also in European ports I have purchased wine and again, nothing is said by the scanners as I bring it back on board. It seems to be different in the USA. Except I have heard the same exemption mentioned regarding West Coast wine itineraries.

Re purchasing it on board, you would not be buying it from the Duty Free store (do they even sell wine or just alcohol?) you would be purchasing a bottle from Room Service or the MDR or a restaurant. You could drink that anywhere you like including your cabin.

Although the rule says that wine purchased in port will be held until the end of the cruise, in our experience this is not always enforced. On a B2B, Mediterranean and TA, we bought wine in port expecting to have it returned to us for the second cruise. We carried it on quite openly and it was not taken. The next ports were the same. We ended up with some nice French and Spamish wines for our TA. We did not at any time attempt to conceal our purchases. We were not on Celebrity excursions.i

I have had the same experience in the Mediterranean. Put bottle on conveyer and no comments from security people.

When in Caribbean a few years ago, bought a bottle of liquor and was told to check at table but no one there and did not wait. We did take it home.

If your cruise is 10 days or more, you can purchase a wine package while onboard and then just ask for a bottle or two while in the dining room unopened to take to your room. No problem there!

You can also ask them for some glasses for your room or ask room service or your room steward to keep them stocked.

If your cruise is under 10 days, you can still buy bottles of wine for your room, it will just be at full price.

I have even read that if you go to the happy hour and order a couple of glasses of wine, you may be able to get it served while still in the bottle. I haven't seen this personally, though. Plus, a bottle of wine has 4.5 - 5 glasses in it so not sure if this would really work. You are able to take the drinks you purchase from the BOGO event back to your room with you. The BOGO is actually buy one, get one for $1 now. This is held twice daily on most ships, if not all ... and is subject to change.

Other options are to bring on as many bottles as you want when boarding but just pay the $15 corkage up front for any bottles beyond the 2 bottle limit (it is actually one per person per stateroom up to 2 bottles).

You are free to consume these bottles anywhere on the ship, including your stateroom. The two corkage free bottles must be consumed in your stateroom, though.

Some have been successful in bring wine back onboard while in port. Just explain you would like to pay the $15 corkage for those bottles. I cannot say it will work for sure but I have done it in the past. I simply gave them my card so they could charge the $15 corkage fee, explained I wanted it in my room so they didn't have to stamp it and was on my way. You may want to check with the powers that be before you bring it back onboard while in port just in case.

Thanks so much everyone...it is a med cruise and the last time I went with Princess to the mediterrean and I put down the wine on the conveyor belts and nothing was said and it wasn't taken away. Hoping celebrity will let it go also

We bought a 7 bottle wine package costing £210 for our Baltic cruise on Eclipse last month.

When onboard they were offering wines at $25 which could be sent to our restaurant.

We should have waited.

We also bought vodka in Russia and had to hand it over, whilst we were doing that friends skipped by with their stash!!! So it seems to be luck of the draw!!!

At the end of our Baltic cruise last week, we ended with 6 bottles of vodka and 2 liquors in our room. But I did see someone's taken. I think it really is "the luck of the draw." On this cruise nearly everyone had some sort of drinks pkg so I really don't understand confiscating it.

We keep buying wine and liquor at port stops...Europe, Asia, Caribbean cruises...and I have yet to have a celebrity security person check it. I never hide it...it's generally in a bag of some sort and I put the bottles through the xray machine with everything else.

Only once the xray security person asked me to step over to the table behind him to check the bottle. I picked up the bottle, turned to go to the table behind him and there was no table....in fact there was no one else from security even nearby so I took it to my cabin.

I'm sure on some cruises, the rules are enforced....maybe we've been ultra lucky...not sure what you'll find on your cruise. Just be prepared to check anything you bring back to the ship and if they don't check it for you, then enjoy it in your room.

My mistake if I posted this Princess information on a Celebrity board. Sorry!!

I wondered, because I thought the Celebrity corkage charge was $25, but didn't respond because I wasn't absolutely sure. I'm sure someone knows!

Not an option on X ships. 2 bottles per cabin on embarkation day only. If one manages to get extra on port days then take it as a bonus and keep quiet about it. If it becomes known that it is a normal occurrence the opportunity will be shut down just as getting non refundable OBC through the casino was.

We bought some wine in port once and put it through the scanners upon reentry and fully expected them to hold it till the end of the cruise. They saw it, let it go, so we just brought it to the cabin and enjoyed it. ;) This was in Valencia Spain.

I already had posted this above!

It was too late to edit this by the time I realized my mistake.
