Cuizer2 Posted August 31, 2017 #551 Share Posted August 31, 2017 We have no problem with well behaved children, but when you encounter a cruise where parents aren't parenting and the staff does nothing...........becomes a problem. grapau27 Posted August 31, 2017 #552 Share Posted August 31, 2017 The problem is not with the children but with the parents & grandparents who have no consideration for others. When my children were young they would not have lasted long in a lounge until they would have been bored. Parents do not disciple their children then expect others to tolerate their poor behavior and have no concern if EVERYONE in the lounge is giving them the stink eye because they are disrupting the environment. Also, a passive lounge attendant does not make the situation any better. Our situation with a poorly behaved family and child last year was so bad the ship officers had to be called to the lounge to asses the situation. I agree totally with you. grapau27 Posted August 31, 2017 #553 Share Posted August 31, 2017 So true!!I was in the grocery store today and it was awful! All I heard was screaming, screeching, crying children. It reminded me of this thread, with the exception of no wine. Stopped on the way home a bought a bottle! At one time the mothers would put dummies in the babys mouths to shut them up but i rarely see it these days. grapau27 Posted August 31, 2017 #555 Share Posted August 31, 2017 It seems to me the core of the complaint is concierge's not doing their job; something to address with the concierge or their superior. If just seeing a child or hearing giggling angers you, the problem isn't the child. However, if the child is running amok, it is up to parent, grandparent, guardian, to handle that. Same goes for ANY venue on the ship. Failure of that guardian to take control means staff has to get involved, which they should do more frequently throughout all venues. Very interesting post. FreshOffTheBoat Posted August 31, 2017 #560 Share Posted August 31, 2017 I bring my kids to the diamond lounge to a grab a drink or two before the evening activities begin (usually before dinner). Never had an issues. If you don't like it your free to leave the lounge, more space for me and my kids.

Bratface1005 Posted September 1, 2017 #567 Share Posted September 1, 2017 The problem I have is you are saying that a lounge that is set aside for diamond members who have been loyal to royal that has a special controlled access shouldn't be a place for kids. I don't think that is right. If my child has earned that diamond level and can behave properly he or she should be able to go with me and have a soda with me in the lounge. I personally use this time with my kids to teach them how to be an adult, how to have a conversation how to be a member of society. I'm sorry but I think this is what is wrong with society today. people are not taking the time to teach children what should be expected of them in public and how they should act. So should children be exposed to adult conversations and adult atmospheres 100% yes. Should the parent use there best judgement and remove there child from a situation if the situation becomes to adult YES. I am not bring my children up devoid of adult interaction so they do not know how to deal with the real world. My kids will be well behaved and well rounded. Its not about them being well behaved. I'm sure, or least hope, people wouldn't have their children running around in the Lounge areas. I also realize that the Cruise ship welcomes families and vacations. However, they also have adult activities that are not for children. I'm sure they don't expect children playing the penny slot machines and enjoying a roll of dice at craps either. Just because its a cruise doesn't mean that children should be everywhere. There are a thousand activities and places on a ship that is all about family and for children. They may have 3 things that are not...casino, adult pool, and some lounges, oh and maybe an adult show....I mean.....

grapau27 Posted September 1, 2017 #574 Share Posted September 1, 2017 I agree with you. Sounds like you are very responsible parents. As Diamond members you can use the lounge with your children any time of day but during cocktail hours unless the child is a diamond member themselves they should not be allowed in. When our children were younger and we took them to an adult venue we made it clear what our behavior expectations were. If they misbehaved, we left immediately as to not disrupt others. Our children soon learned how to act. We also expected them to give up their seat to someone older if it was crowded. Over the years we had many people comment on how well behaved they were. As they grew toward their teen years, to them adult venue meant boring and they chose not to accompany us....lol.
