Enough time from Manhattan to EWR

That is cutting pretty close. You would have to be among the first off, carry luggage off, short lines for immigration, light traffic to airport and short lines for TSA.

Any one of those things get hung up & you might miss your flight. You could likely make it - just not 2 hrs in advance of flight - just depends on your comfort level. With zero delays figure an hour minimum to get off the ship, go thru immigration & customs, get a cab and drive (in zero traffic) to EWR. That would get you there 2 hrs ahead - any/every delay will reduce the 2 hr window

We actually did this exact thing in May. Ship docked at 8am (NCL Breakaway), we got off in the first group with our luggage, were through customs and immigration in about 15 minutes, had a car and driver waiting for us, got to the airport by 9:30, changed our airline tickets for a flight that departed at 10:30, checked our bags, changed terminals using the airport tram thing. No problem. It helps that we are pre check because we both have our Trusted Traveler. We got to the gate and waited about 20 minutes to board and off we went.

Thank you so much. Now I have to decide if I think we can get off quickly enough, and I think we can. Just two of us, one bag each and we are very moblie. It will be the Breakaway in October. The difference in price between an early or later flight is significant, and I'm cheap so I was looking for the best deal. Glad that it worked out for you. Thanks again.

El Cheapo:

Ever heard the term "pennywise and pound foolish?"

Why do you think the earlier flight is less expensive?

Do you realize that "scheduled to dock" at 8 AM and "actually docking" at 8 AM can be vastly different things?

Have you ever experienced Manhattan traffic? (I remember more than one occasion when I was a younger man working in NY where it was faster to get to my crosstown destination by getting out of a traffic snarled taxi and walking the rest of the way).

Did you notice that the poster who said they made a 10:30 flight had actually booked a later flight and changed to the early flight only after getting to the airport early enough to make it?

Did you see that they have Trusted Traveler status, which allowed them to go through TSA Precheck rather than regular TSA screening?

Will you have a car and driver waiting for you?

Nobody on here is going to tell you it's OK to book such an early flight and there will always be folks who post about an experience where they were able to make an earlier flight than the one that they booked.

It's New York and there are always things that can go wrong - Customs and Immigration slow down, late clearance, accident in the Lincoln Tunnel or NJ Turnpike, etc etc. What a stressful way to end a wonderful cruise!

So you basically walked right off the BA, sped through customs and immigration, and skated through EWR's Airport Security Screening. You realize that you experienced a miracle? What time did you queue up/get on line for self disembarkation?

The train from Penn Station to EWR runs quite frequently and is an efficient way to get to the airport. Not sure about the logistics of getting from the pier to the station, though.

When I was at Newark in February, it took 45 minutes to get past TSA. Even the precheck people were stuck in the regular line because there weren't enough agents.

What is the price difference between the earlier flight and having to book a later flight at the airport on the day, if you end up missing that earlier flight?

Dear CPT Trips skeptic,

You know there are not a ton of people on the road driving out of Manhattan that early Sunday morning. The roads were uncrowded and there were no traffic jams or accidents to cause us any delays. While I know this is not the norm for that area most days, Sunday morning is different. People are not trying to get out of Manhattan to go somewhere and at 8:30am not many people are in the process of returning to Manhattan from the Hamptons or wherever they spent their weekend. It is probably one of the best days and times to make your way out of Manhattan in terms of traffic.

Breakaway gets back from Bermuda on Sunday morning at around 8am. We weren't in the normal queue for self-disembarkation. We were in The Haven Lounge and the concierge escorts Haven guests off the ship BEFORE regular self-disembarkation starts via a crew elevator which is very close to the exit for the ship. In terms of the elevator, the concierge takes about 8 guests at a time with their luggage. We were in the second elevator of passengers who got off and the family that rode down with us had to go back up because someone forgot her jacket. So, basically we were #9 and #10 through Customs and Immigration that day. So self-disembarkation is very, very fast for those in The Haven.

If 2rbradleys is going to the Newark Airport on a Sunday, I think they would have quite a good chance of making that flight provided they self-disembark as quickly as possible (including going to the deck for disembarkation and waiting as close to the exit as possible to be close to the front of the line or maybe they are in a suite and can self disembark the way my husband and I did) and has the logistics worked out so they get to the airport as quickly as possible.

Ah suite! The Haven provides special treatment not available to most pax. Unless OP has those Haven perks, arranges a car service that will be waiting, and has

PreCheck I remain skeptical of their ability to make the early flight.

If a ship docks in Manhattan at 8:00, is there enough time to make an 11:00 o'clock flight out of Newark?

Tha Magic 8Ball says, "not likely."

As a New Yorker, I would answer -

Is it possible - yes

Is it probable - probably not

Would I go for it - no

Traffic, even early on a weekend, can be very unpredictable. If it Is raining, that will slow things down even more.

The security lines at EWR can be horrific - been there, done that too many times.
