Hurricane What If...

Carnival will not go into the hurricane.

As long as you can get to the port, and on the ship you will have a cruise that is at least as long as you booked.

You might go different ports, you might go out into the Atlantic and then back to port after the number of days..

They do not want to risk their multi-million dollar vessels by going anywhere near a hurricane, so they will just take the floating hotel somewhere else.

If you are unfortunately enough to be getting on the ship at a port that is in the path the day you would board, your cruise will be cut at least 1 day shorter, and you can board the next day. If it is really bad, they might move the port to some place safer...

Hope that helps.

That's the risk booking a fall Caribbean cruise, and generally why it's cheapest time to sail. We got stuck out to sea an extra day... out of harm's way. Although next cruise sailing lost a day. They received OBC and some short of voucher for future cruise. Our travel plans home were a bit of a hassle, but in the end we were safe, and had great time. Keep an open mind, don't stress if something changes - no one can predict mother nature. I'm booked in October this year... not afraid, just aware it's possible (however unlikely) a tropical storm may impact. But price was too good to keep us away.

We did a Bahamas cruise where there was a hurricane. They just dropped one port and added another. So instead of going to Nassau we went to Key West. It worked out great. Just be aware this can happen at anytime, they are going to keep the ship and passengers safe. You will have a blast.:D

Key West instead of Nassau! I will take that kind of storm inconvenience any cruise.

Were sailing Vista 12 August 2017, Southern Caribbean.

Is there a big chance there are hurricane around at that time??

It is Hurricane season so there is a chance fir one, and even if not a full blown Hurricane you could possibly get a Tropical Depression/Storm. It is that time of year with NO WAY of predicting what the season will bring.

That is why it is critical that time of year that trip insurance also covers changes in flights just in case you get diverted and have to make other travel arrangements.

Booked for the Bahamas in Sept. What will Carnival do if there's a threat of hurricane?

The worst part of a hurricane is going to an island parallel of the hurricanes path and getting rained on the entire time...

My last cruise it rained the entire day we were at Nassau. Good news we were at a water park, and there was no lightning. All it did was make the temperature lower and reduced our chance of sunburns.

Anyone remember a ship that was supposed to go to Canada but were "forced" to go to Bermuda? Some people were upset though.

Than is the classic caribbean cruise on the Miracle that went to somewhere in S Carolina and than up to Boston and almost had a mutiny among the passengers.

Oh wow! That would have been a huge disappointment for me.

Actually.....we do live in western Pennsylvania and had looked into the NE cruises out of NY, but were a bit pricey. So, we got a more expensive cruise to places we never had been...St Johns NB, Bar Harbor and Glouster (sp?). On the way up it was a tad bouncy, but we survived. I always take a pair of sweats, sweater, medium jacket where ever we go....you never know.....but there was a lot of people PO'd, because they wanted their golf and beaches. Actually, change ups are sometimes a good thing.

We were booked on Royal Caribbean Empress of the Seas when Katrina rolled in. We were suppose to sail from Fort Lauderdale, they moved us to Tampa for embarkation (with royal Caribbean busing anyone who had flights to fort lauderdale over to tampa). We missed Key West and received a $50 obc per person. We had great weather every day with really rocky waves ones night. Family was more worried about us from home than we were being on the ship.
