What is the current onboard booking bonus for future cruises?

Recommended Posts

Thank you, I understand that and knew that offer was there but I'm still confused. Here is what I was talking about: In March if I were to put $250 down on a future cruise they were offering $250 onboard credit for the cruise I was on when I booked the future cruise. Didn't matter if it was interior, ocean view or balcony.

The OBC amounts listed above are the same if you take the OBC immediately (on the cruise you are on) or if you take the OBC on the future cruise. I don't of any other current OBC offer for booking on board that is not related to cruise length and stateroom category of the future cruise booked.

I think what you saw was some misleading advertising with the "up to" in very, very small print.

This offer in one form or another has been around for a while and I never have seen $250 for any cabin or any length of sailing.

On the Liberty right now and today's flier says 30% off every ship every guest plus up to $500 in instant onboard credit. Deposit as low as 50$ per stateroom.

It seems deals for onboard booking can vary a bit...just what we've noticed lately.

Based on what it says, if you book a future cruise on a current sailing that you are on you can receive the listed OBC determined by length of cruise and cabin type. If you move the future cruise (things happen in life), it doesn't say you will automatically lose the OBC you are getting (as long as you did not use the OBC on the cruise when you booked the cruise) just that if you 'downgrade' you will lose some of the future OBC.

I would expect that 'downgrade' to mean a shorter cruise or a different cabin type. If however you remain on a cruise of the same length and cabin type the OBC would remain, although the pricing for the cruise itself would be repriced at the prevailing rates.

We are planning to book a future cruise when we are on Empress next week. The price is a little higher than we would like (two months ago we saw it a little less, but did not book it). If the price goes down on the sailing, my question is will we lose the OBC, because it was originally booked on a previous sailing?

No, there is no variance. It is still the same. OBC and deposit are based on the length of cruise and the 30% each guest is the current deal open to anyone, not just those booking onboard.

Your OBC (on a future cruise) or deposit (on a future cruise that you took the instant OBC for) will only be affected if you downgrade cabin types of change the length of the cruise.

It will not change if you call to take advantage of a price drop.

Exactly. The deal looks different because they offer the NCC in conjunction with whatever the current offer is. The NCC component of the deal never changes.

If the current promo includes OBC I have seen them add the 2 totals together, I've also seen them add the $300 you could win by booking in the first 3 days so you do need to read the fine print. For that one they advertised it as "up to" (in very small print) $800. The $800 was about half the page. Very deceptive, I listened to a few people upset that they were only getting $50 in OBC and not $800.

We stopped buying the Future Cruise Credits a long time ago. Now we generally know when and on what ship we want to book, when we are onboard. We never take the OBC as an 'instant' OBC, since we generally have plenty OBC to use on the current sailing anyway.

Thanks for adding clarity to the situation.

I'm just the opposite. I will always book as soon as the itineraries are released as many times that is the lowest the price will ever be as we are cruising at Christmas and March Break. I book several "dummy" cruises at Christmas and take the instant OBC so I get the full amount. When the new itineraries come out I can change them without losing any of my OBC or deposit. I know what cabin type I want and the length of cruise isn't going to change for me. By waiting until I am actually on board to book the cruise that I want would mean paying more for that cruise than when it was released.

If I end up having too much OBC then I take it out in cash at the casino and put it into the cruise fund for future use.

We try to book as early as we can....and our current Harmony 2017 cruise was booked on a day when both DH and I saw this outrageous deal at a ridiculously low price, that it HAD TO BE BOOKED. It wasn't the first day available, and wind of these prices spread on CC. But the dates were dates we would sail so it got done. It has had obscene price increases up to now. So we are enjoying a truly 'bargain basement price on that one'. We don't engage in booking 'dummy' cruises, just not how we handle our planning.

Could you please advise:

I have already booked my Harmony B2B cruise at the price about $300 lower than the current online rate. I will be on Anthem next month. If I buy my NextCruise Certificate onboard Anthem, can I apply it to my existing booking on Harmony with MY rates, not current rates online?

No, you would be booking current rates.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I have another question, actually 2::)

What is the advantage of booking onboard a particular cruise vs NextCruise certificate with "open" date?

Where I can find all terms and conditions about NextCruise?

Thank you in advance.

A lot more OBC for booking a specific cruise while on board. The open booking is a whopping $25 for, I believe, 6 nights or longer.

Since they lowered the OBC amounts on the open booking, we've not purchased single one. There was some talk about them not even being offered anymore, but I'm not sure.

We were on board Allure in November 2015 and booked a suite on a 9-night Anthem for just the Mrs and I for Nov 2016. Deposit & corresponding OBC were both $400. Plans changed and we've moved that reservation around a few times since then. We've finally settled on two connecting interior rooms and bringing the kids along, but sailing May 2017. That $400 still carried over as the "deposit" for one of the staterooms, even though we initially booked in a suite and have downgraded to interior rooms.

I'm sure there is a time limit on how long you can bounce that deposit around, but I would book a specific cruise that I would want to go on, knowing that if I needed to change plans I could move the deposit. Its a much better deal than the "open booking", but doesn't work that much differently.

Yes, we just got that on the Serenade. We took the instant OBC because in the UK we lose our deposit if we cancel. So in effect we've already had the deposit back and there is no net gain or loss if we do cancel before final payment.

This might be a stretch, but we are sailing in a few weeks and again in Feb. I did not use the open booking for the cruise in Feb, but if I purchase one on our upcoming cruise, do you think I can use it to book onboard in Feb for a cruise for the following year and get the additional OBC?:D
