gawjuzlady Posted August 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2016 I'm a first time cruiser cruising on Carnival Valor Jan 29-Feb 2 to Bahamas. What are the pros and cons to cruising in January? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
leaveitallbehind Posted August 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2016 (edited) The climate will be like that of southern Florida at that time - certainly better than most of the US, but not as warm as the Caribbean. Frequently lower stateroom rates past New Years. The only concern would be weather related travel issues in the US to the departure port, depending on where you are coming from. simplelife Posted August 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2016 It may be chilly (you may need align jacketed sweater). Water temperatures will be colder than most prefer. If you are not doing water sports, you ate probably fine. We have traveled to that area of the Caribbean in late December and it was a welcome change from the very hot temps When we usually travel there in summer. OCruisers Posted August 29, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2016 January isn't the best time of the year to go to the Bahamas ... BUT it's a great time to go deeper into the Caribbean.
navybankerteacher Posted August 29, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2016 If you live anywhere much north of Port Canaveral you will have warmer weather than at home, but it could be pretty chilly in the Bahamas (think as low as high 40's at night), but it will still be better than at home. It is good to get a short taste of cruising for your first time - but remember that it will be better when you take a longer one further south. Enjoy the ship. MCC retired Posted August 29, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 29, 2016 (edited) Pro's = Probably a pretty good price , fewer school age kids (if that is important) . Con's = Weather , good chance it could be too cool in the Bahamas for water activities . Edited August 29, 2016 by MCC retired

They are off the coast of Florida and south towards Cuba in the Atlantic. :) Edited August 29, 2016 by leaveitallbehind
Sauer-kraut Posted August 29, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 29, 2016 Be sure to book fights (if needed) to arrive at least ONE day prior to your cruise. You need to make sure you'll actually get to the port on the day of sailing and if flights are cancelled you're SOL if you fly in on the same day.
