charter sailings

I remember seeing somewhere a spread sheet or link to information regarding charters that have booked in the future I am looking at a ailing next year and if there is a large charter I may move the dates around

I know that there may be charters at anytime but with this being a 1 time sailing it makes me curious

 

can anyone point me that direction? :)

Charters are generally full ship bookings....unless you pay the "charter" price thru whoever is chartering the ship, you can't book!

 

If you're looking for large groups, they are on every sailing...multiple "groups". Most times, you'll never know there are groups with you, as everyone does their own thing, just like any passenger. Some groups have private venues, like groups sailing for a particular band, or hobby...but that really doesn't affect the general public on the ship too much.

Actually.... it impacts the general public a ton when venues are CLOSED because of these large groups... I was on a Princess cruise several years back and the ship was 50% sold to an investment firm as a team building, conference at sea, customer appreciation type "charter".... The casino had limited things open as they were holding tournaments, the theater had ONE general public event a day because it was accommodating seminars, many restaurants were ridiculously booked for the investment firm.... ZERO notice was given prior to the cruise so that annoyed everyone...

I have to disagree with you. Large groups can sometimes be very disruptive. The Gospel Music groups often on Holland America ships come to mind. They demand private seatings in the main dining room so that they don't have to share a table with people drinking alcohol.

This was not our experience. On a cruise about 2yrs ago there was a large group that literally took over the ship. They were rude and had a distorted sense of entitlement. The group included a large number of children who were running all over the ship causing havoc. Parents did nothing. Many people were complaining but security did nothing. Our cruise experience was not good, so much so, that when we found out that a similar large group has chartered the NYE cruise that we booked a year ago, we canceled.:mad:

You are not alone in your disappointment with that large group. I remember reading a lot of comments from people describing the deplorable conduct of that group. I believe they were from your State and lived not that far from you. I hope never to be on the same ship with them and I don't understand why the cruise line let them book at all and make everyone else miserable.

I sailed on Carnival in the early 90's and Kathie Lee Gifford was shooting a commercial. It was a nightmare. The main dining room was closed 2 evenings buffet for us! Elevators were shut down because god forbid she ride one with us commoners. Lounges were closed etc. I wrote a letter to Mickey Aronson and received a 100 dollar credit to "my next" cruise. I ripped it up and mailed it back. What a disappointment that cruise was. Regis Philbin was on it, Richard Simmons, and Willard Scott doing the weather every morning over the loud speaker. The only decent two out of the bunch was Regis Philbin and Richard Simmons.

Good to know if the next cruise is a charter as well. I just completed a cruise on NCL where the next cruise was a rock band charter. A large portion of the pool deck had equipment stored and cordoned off the entire cruise with many deck chairs also stored away. Then the last 2 days, they covered one of the pools to set up the stage. The remaining pool was ice cold, the same pool they use for the polar bear swim in Alaska.

If this is the group that I'm thinking of, a good way to avoid them is to choose a cruise which leaves on Saturdays. Those people do not ride on Saturday which is their Sabbath.

I'm not clear of your intent here. Are you looking to avoid a charter or be on it?

There is an upside to being on a charter when the ship is not filled. You will pay a lot less for your cabin than the charter attendees and still have the opportunity to enjoy some of the events. I was on the Pearl for a music cruise not too long ago and was introduced to several up and coming artists as well as slipping into the theater for Emmylou Harris.

 

Several years ago when I first began cruising, I was on a Carnival ship that was partially chartered by a very interesting band out of New Orleans called The Radiators. And boy, were there fans "interesting" to say the least.

the bigger the mega ships with multiple dining & entertainment public room venues, the lesser the impact of a large group on the balance of the guests...rule of thumb..when a large group is in an activity, the less congestive other area of the ship

Could be but no rule of thumb. That one venue were you thought to enjoy the sunset with a cocktail might be booked each day.. as the split up groups might use it throughout the day. Have seen that on Epic.

 

Once a large group chartered/booked a ship you're pleasure is guaranteed less. And especially seeing their logo everywhere to constantly remind you who ruined your cocktail sunset.. ;)
