Hi everyone,

There seems to be very few recent photos, reviews, comments and copies of daily newspapers of Maasdam. Can you post some comments or point me where to find them please. Thanks!

I am considering booking Maasdam Tahiti cruise on 2018 and I would love to hear some comments. I am doing my first HAL cruise next summer on Nieuw Amsterdam but I have cruised with Oceania, Celebrity, Norwegian and RCI before. So I am mainly worried about the condition of old ship, food quality and will I be bored on sea days. I will highly appreciate any of your comments. Thanks!!

We were on the Maasdam last month. Check out my wife's website at the link below in my signatute for pictures of the ship if you are interested. It was a fantastic experience. The ship is wonderful and the crew was great and the food was excellent. [emoji106]

There have been some really wonderful cruise photo blogs posted recently here at CC for Maasdam in Alaska this season. I have been enjoying them greatly.

Also, Google "HAL Facts" and there is a great resource for pictures and information.

I have not been on the Maasdam recently, but I was on it twice in 2014 (the same exact cruise.) I love the Maasdam, it's a great size, and I have had nothing but super experiences on her. The food and the service has been impeccable, and it has a great library. In fact, I just booked a 22 night South Pacific cruise on her in 2017.

We both enjoy the sea days. We find you can do as little or as much as you want. There are guest speakers on the longer cruises two a day, Micro Soft Digital Work Shop, cooking demos, or just enjoy a deck chair on the Promenade Deck with a good book or have a power nap. We where never bored. The food was good, varied, quantity & quality . Enjoy your cruise.

There are also several ongoing blogs by CC members about the current Trans-Pacific and Circum-Navigation of Australia cruise on Maasdam that embarked on 26 September that are located right here on the main HAL boards. You may enjoy reading them for the comments about both ship and cruise.

Thank you so much for the link. I couldn't find any recent blogs when I searched. If you have links to other blogs, please do post them also. :)

We have been in Maasdam inside and OV rooms. Maasdam insides have a couch which is rare anymore for insides. There is a coffee table which is adjustable height so you can eat at it too.

The insides have a shower, more generous size than some lines and easier to get into and out of than the tubs. The bathrooms with the shower have a bit more vanity space than the bathrooms with the tubs. Most, not all, OVs have a tub.

Maasdam is a great size, more intinate and easier to get from place to place. It still has 2 pools, one with a retractable roof, and large hot tubs.

I don't know why you think you'll be bored... are you bored on other cruise lines? Ther's no rock climbing wall, no ice skating rink, no slide at the pool...

But there's as much to do on Maasdam as most other HAL ships, maybe not as many dining venues as their newest ships, only MDR, Lido buffet, Canaletto and Pinnacle Grill (no Tamarind Asian restaurant) plus some very fancy dinners offered curing the cruise - Le Cirque and maybe Master Chef Table. There're enrichment lectures, digital workshop classes for Microsoft everyday (no charge), crafts, dance classes, spa classes (usually a pitch for something you'd pay extra for but the classes are free), fitness classes (some have a fee), trivia in multiple forms, excellent library, free DVD movies to check out and watch in your room... wine tastings, culinary demos, fun stuff at the pool, ice carving, equator crossing celebration... art auctions always attract a few too as well as the casino and bingo.

HAL also has excellent room service menus! Hands down the best. And the wrap-around promenade deck! Enjoy, m--

Just scroll up and down the first page of this forum and you should find threads of "Live from" reports.

Thank you so much for your comments. 22 day South Pacific is actually the one that I am also considering. I think our only option is inside cabin, any comments about those? Comparing to for example older RCI ships interior cabins?

Consider room I029 on Maasdam navigation deck. I had that for my first cruise ever in 2015. A nice area and handy to the Crow's Nest.
