kelmac Posted October 11, 2016 #76 Share Posted October 11, 2016 Many things about Celebrity have improved though the years. The conditions for the workers and staff really improved after RCL purchased Celebrity. But I do miss: --High quality raw ingredients for the cuisine (like aged beef), mastered by Michel Roux --formal dress of waiters and asst' waiters on formal nights, w/white glove service --true formal nights, w/intermezzo course at dinner, formal plates/silverware --one cabin steward with a manageable number of rooms --Captain's table --Sorbet by the pool --money back for price drops after final payment --live music through out the ship --Ocean liners alternative restaurants on the M-class I don't need documents, dinner parades, escorts to the cabin and harp music in the MDR. Enjoy! Kel:)
kelmac Posted October 11, 2016 #77 Share Posted October 11, 2016 We miss the single class feeling of Celebrity cruising. Now everyone is separated into various classes. Good point! I agree 100%.
Luvcrusn Posted October 11, 2016 #78 Share Posted October 11, 2016 3[/center I agree too, ocean liners was worth the uprice charge. IMHO Tuscan grille offers nothing special and is like a glorified over charge Italian chain restaurant. Rare shipshape sam Posted October 11, 2016 #79 Share Posted October 11, 2016 For me, I miss: * thalassotherapy pools on S class along with sauna/steam/changing rooms * on next cruise, will miss the old type of M class specialty restaurant * formal night/formal attire that had high participation We first sailed Celebrity in 2005 and through 2009, can say, we loved the product/service. Since then, our sense is we are just another passenger or profit opportunity. Still, we like Celebrity's product/service over others. We do still sail Royal a lot of the time when we want a shorter cruise or more action onboard.

Enjoy! Kel:) Remember the Thursday night food extravaganza? People would line up to take pictures. In retrospect probably a tremendous waste of food and manpower to carve all those melons and ice sculptures. Still, was a part of the cruising experience that we will never forget. jsf Posted October 11, 2016 #81 Share Posted October 11, 2016 How about the strolling violinist's in the MDR back in the ninety's, plus the "Midnight Buffet" that always looked so nice. They also requested that everyone stayed dressed up on formal night's for the whole evening. webecruzin2 Posted October 11, 2016 #82 Share Posted October 11, 2016 The old Chef in charge of dining on all the ships, Michel Roux and the MDR experience in the early 90s. The Service and Food every night in the MDR was better than that which you get in the Specialty Restaurants currently and it was all part of the fare. Would like to stress this was every night. Yes we miss that too! The two things that stick out to us the most were just the amazing things they could do with potatoes OMG they were sinful, and they made the best breadsticks ever. neverbeenhere Posted October 12, 2016 #84 Share Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) That's funny because Celebrity Cruises didn't really become active until the 1990's. The line was Chandris, then named Celebrity. Chef Michael Roux was responsible for menus and food prep. He was a master. Nice to have a fact-checker onboard. seacruise9 Posted October 12, 2016 #86 Share Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) That's funny because Celebrity Cruises didn't really become active until the 1990's. Hi, Yes, Celebrity operated its first cruise in 1990. I sailed aboard the Horizon in the line's early days back in 1991. The food in the main dining room was superb. Chandris formed Celebrity Cruises as a premium cruise brand. Chuck Edited October 12, 2016 by seacruise9
