Long stay in San Juan before flights

Recommended Posts

Do the half day excursion through RCI that tours old and new San Juan. I think it's only $35 and includes a stop for lunch. They take your bags and drop you at the airport around Noon. We had a 2PM flight and it worked great for us

This is what I'm doing in November after getting off Jewel of the Seas. I did a similar shore excursion in Seattle last weekend and it worked out great.

We spent the day at the Marriott on the beach prior to our evening flight. Call ahead and get their details and make a ressie. We had a changing room to get in and out of our swim suits for pool and/or beach activities. An in-pool bar, with lunch available at the bar. There is also a restaurant inside and casino, with betting on horses. Cabs are easily available for the airport short run. Shopping nearby. Just a fun afternoon to extend your vacation!

Last time we went Barachina's where they check luggage for free. No requirement to eat there but we did have lunch there before heading to the airport. Don't recall any problem getting a cab though I seem to remember saying there is a taxi stand on the corner. There is/was a free trolley that circled old San Juan, making various stops. You should be able to find the route online. Enjoy.

Just off the Adventure two weeks ago. I stumbled across a Barachina's handbill/flyer at guest service the day before we disembarked. The flyer read $5 / bag. So that's where we headed to. When we arrived, we were told it was no fee but 'tips only' . We left them there all day and left them $3/bag when we picked them up.

We sailed from San Juan many times and when we got off the ship there were many taxi types offering tours for those with later flights. We kept our luggage with us and were dropped off at the airport.

I enjoyed the tours and most stopped somewhere for us to have lunch on our own dime, but the tours were pretty much near the Old San Juan area as well as out a ways. It was considerably cheaper than using a Carnival tour.

We haven't done this in the last few years, but if we were debarking in San Juan, rather than embarking there, I would look for the same thing again.
