Cabin Choices

Completely depends on how you plan on spending your cruise. I have had balcony and window rooms so far. In April we are trying the interior. I found that I never used the balcony except very early morning so we downsized to the window last cruise. I think we opened the curtain once. We are wake up, get dressed, and go people.

If you prefer to spend a lot of quiet time in your room, definitely a balcony or at least a window but if you like people and activities from dawn to dusk, save the money and spend it on a drink package, a fantastic spa treatment, an upgraded dining experience, an excursion, or a lovely piece of jewelry or souvenir

Inside. No way I would upgrade the cabin if it was a financial burden on the rest of the trip. While a balcony is a better cabin, it is certainly not a make or break for me. I would take the budget friendly cabin and have the funds to enjoy other things.

We always get a balcony. I spend a lot of time in the room and we can easily afford it.

I must ask. Can you not afford to balcony or are you just choosing to spend your money alcohol? After being on CC for a while, I've found that people will skimp on their room and then plunk down $600 or more just on booze. It's all about choices.

Who cares? I know I would get more enjoyment from the drink package than from an upgraded room that we spend little time in. If they choose to budget that then so be it. It's all about choices you know.

I completely agree. The OP can choose to spend their money however they wish. I'm not judging. It's about being aware of your priorities.

I prefer balcony rooms, and it's worth the extra cost to me. That's because my favorite thing to do on sea days is to sit on the balcony and read.

That being said, for my cruise out of San Juan in two weeks we have a porthole interior. I just couldn't justify the increased cost for a balcony for a cruise with only one sea day. Especially since for this cruise, I'm sailing with a group and will be attending conferences onboard on the sea day.

It is all about choices. BcIceman you didn't give enough info, for me, to make a choice. Is it a 5 day cruise? No way would I spend $550 more for a balcony. Is it a 14 day cruise? In a heartbeat!

We have done an interior twice. First cruise and more recently on a last minute quick getaway. We have decided we really don't care for them. We do spend time in our stateroom and enjoy having a couch.

Balcony is our first choice but that can get pricey on some of our chosen journeys. We tend to do longer cruises. So the difference in price can be significant

The compromise for us is an Ocean View. We get the couch, a view of the outside and save money over a balcony.

The only restricted budget I want to be on is in the casino. I do have to set limits while gambling. I do not want to think twice about ordering a drink because of budget.

Whichever you pick BcIceman have a great cruise.

I have done insides and balconies. With retirement on the horizon the question is do I want to cruise more often. So it is not a question of the money it is a question of how often. OV are on lower decks and I like to be on the Empress deck. BTW this is a seven day cruise. OV is only about 150.00 more and I could be leaning that way. I amsure whatever I decide I will enjoy it.

Would you rather have a inside cabin and cruise or be on a restricted budget and have a balcony? There is about a 550.00 diffrence between the two.

We have only been on 4 cruises. The first was a balcony and I said I would never NOT have a balcony.

The second was a Cloud 9 Spa Balcony. I said I would never NOT have a Cloud 9 Spa balcony.

Third was a Cloud 9 Spa Balcony.

Fourth was a Cloud 9 Spa Interior. Why? A couple reasons....we booked late, wanted to have two rooms close together, and was not willing to pay an extra $800 just to upgrade one interior to a balcony. Yeah I missed the balcony...somewhat. But being on deck 12 (Breeze) it was very easy to get outside to a deck...serenity, secret deck, deck 11 (perfect place to watch the sunrise on those comfy chairs...way more comfy than the little chairs on a balcony). And I absolutely found that I slept much better in the interior.

So what will cruise 5 be? Unless the price difference is very small...say $200 or less, I would opt for the interior room again.

It really depends on how you like to spend your time on a cruise. If you're one who likes to kick back on a balcony and read, watch the world go by, then it's worth it. If you don't then it's not. I would say though, that if it's a matter of being on a restricted budget, then I would go with the inside and enjoy the time onboard. It's more frustrating going around not doing things because you don't want to spend the money then in not getting to see out or spend time on a balcony.

For me the length of cruise doesn't matter I go for a balcony. I don't really spend money on anything else while on board since I don't drink and they made the casino smoking so I can't spend much time in there if any. I will do a game of bingo now and then but can take it or leave it. I am definitely not Carnivals target cruiser, they don't make a bunch of money off me while on board and I usually book excursions separate from the ship.

If I had to choose inside or no cruise at all I would try an inside but I spend a lot of time in my room on the balcony so can't imagine having as good as experience sitting in a closet lol

while i've never had an inside (that whole once you go balcony you never go back thing), if it were a question of inside and doing what i want, or balcony and being restricted, i'd go for the inside.

when onboard i like to do / buy whatever i want at that moment - it is vacation after all. i think i'd be frustrated with self-imposed restrictions on spending. as it is i typically end up spending about as much as the cruise fare on purchases onboard.

as others mentioned, i would consider the upgrade from interior to oceanview. you said it was a 7 day cruise so chances are it's not a fantasy class ship - on sunshine / triumph / conquest / splendor / dream / vista class ships the OVs are approx 220 sq ft compared to the 185, have a couch and of course a window. they seem much larger than the interiors and if the upgrade difference is nominal, i think that may be the first thing i buy just because i wanted to with your more substantial budget for spending :)

We book balcony cabins (or suites if I can get a good price or upgrade) and I never even look at inside or OV prices. We did an inside on our very first cruise (RCCL) 16 yrs ago and we hated it, freaked me out not to be able to see the outside from our cabin (not sure why but it seemed very claustrophobic to me and much too dark). After that we did an OV, it was decent and if I was choosing between those 2, it would be the OV hands down.

But if it is wide open on choices, a balcony will win with us every time (and a suite when we can upgrade). We have thoroughly enjoyed having a balcony for the last 10 years and use it many times during the cruise. It has now become a very big part of our cruise experience.

Good Luck!

One question no one seems to have asked is WHERE you will be cruising. We splurged for a balcony on our first cruise to the Caribbean. I found I didn't use it much because it was unpleasantly hot and not particularly scenic, although I did like being able to look outside. So for our next cruise, I intended to book an OV since it was less expensive than a balcony but I could still look outside. Then it turned out we could take our kids along and my BIL and SIL decided to come too, and I went for an aft balcony cabin, both for the extra room and so SIL and I (who both use wheelchairs) could watch the amazing Alaska scenery from our room and not have to fight the crowds in the ship viewing areas. (Price was more of a consideration for them, they booked an inside cabin around the corner from our room.) But I don't know if any of my reasons would apply to you.

We are trying a balcony for the first time next cruise but only because my mom is claustrophobic. If it weren't for that I would prefer an interior and cruise twice as often, which is what we usually do.

I am extremely claustrophobic, but am perfectly fine in an inside. See if there is someone who wouldn't mind you guys going in and taking a look at an inside. She might find that she is OK with it. That's what I had to do before I would even consider it. Also an OV might work too.

We found we were using the balcony less, unless it's scenic daytime cruising such as Norway, so now opt for inside for less than a fortnight. For longer cruises, we now go for outside, but near to an exit on to the deck.
