deejay77 Posted October 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2016 Hi all, My wife and I have booked on our first cruise with Thomson on the Celebration doing the Mediterranean Sunrise from Aqaba to Malaga in March/April 17. I'm sure that we will have more questions as we get closer to the date but the first one is what would be the best sea sickness medicine or tablets to take with us from the UK, my wife has always struggled on ferry crossings when the weather has been bad and wants to be prepared. CruiserBruce Posted October 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 23, 2016 Welcome to Cruise Critic! This question is probably best asked of your doctor, who knows you far better than any of us possibly could.
cb at sea Posted October 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 23, 2016 In the US, Bonine is the preferred med....it's an over-the-counter medication.. you can get it in non-drowsy formula. Meclizine is the generic name. If you don't bring anything, the ship will provide Meclizine for you.
CruiserBruce Posted October 23, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 23, 2016 (edited) In the US, Bonine is the preferred med....it's an over-the-counter medication.. you can get it in non-drowsy formula. Meclizine is the generic name. If you don't bring anything, the ship will provide Meclizine for you. Is it now? A scientific study? Meclizine is not the generic name, it is the chemical name. Bonine is one of the brand names for meclizine. Edited October 23, 2016 by CruiserBruce
Quilting_Cruiser Posted October 24, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 24, 2016 I don't know about Bonine being "preferred." I'd say it's "popular." I agree with the advice to talk with your doctor. My daughter is prone to seasickness and SeaBands work really well for her and I prefer them to her taking medication.
Rare Keith1010 Posted October 24, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 24, 2016 Like most medicines one size does not fit all. So there is not a number one remedy. The one that works best for me might not work for you. I too would do as CruiserBruce recommended and talk this over with your physician.
