Tampa hotel recommendations

I've seen the Bay Harbor Hotel and Chase Suites both recommended on these boards but the reviews on TripAdvisor are not great. I need help! If anyone has recent, first hand experience with these hotels, I would really appreciate it.

Or if you have any other reasonably priced hotel recommendations.

Thanks!

Following... have been doing my research as well and I got the same results about the Chase. Good reviews on CC but not so much on other sites. Trying to find a 2bdroom suite somewhere for March.

I'll be following this thread as well. I'm looking into some decent options, but a lot of the reviews I've read for the affordable (read under $200 a night) hotels are holding me off a bit. I'm traveling solo, so I'm not going to splurge on a 2 night pre cruise stay (arriving from Europe, so flying in early)

We are sailing on 11/5 and are staying pre cruise at the Marriott Waterside. We have a senior discount for $127. That's a great deal there. Valet parking is $24. We have also stayed pre cruise at the Embassy Suites, directly across the street from the Marriott last year. We did the park and cruise plan. Worked out very well and cost I believe was about $225 which includes your hotel stay, parking, and transportation to and from the port. It's a large hotel and crowded so the breakfast was crazy busy. Also stayed one year at the Residence Inn in Tampa with their park and cruise package. The hotel was a bit run down and the van was not timely and we wound up taking a cab back to the hotel after the cruise. Can't remember the cost but if we booked it, it had to be reasonable.

All these hotels are within a mile or so of the port.

When we cruise out of Tampa we use the Valet port parking. Cost is a bit more but you can't beat getting out at the front door and somebody takes your car and it's there when you return. The parking lot for Valet is right next to the cruise terminal.

Thanks torpeedo. I'll be checking into those options.

We are flying in, so parking isn't an issue. But transportation to and from the port and the airport is.

Your welcome. I often book several hotels and keep checking for price reductions for AAA or Senior. I can't tell you how many times I cancel and rebook at the lower rates. The Marriott Waterside we have booked for 11/4 started out at $159 and last week it was $127. It is a Friday so that's always less expensive as well.

No cruise package with the Marriott Waterside though.

We loved the Marriott Waterside!!! Another option is the Embassy Suites right across the street from the Marriott.

Both are nice and only about a mile away from the port so a taxi would be inexpensive.

Happy sailing!!!

Thanks for your recommendation. Do you know if those hotels have airport shuttles?

Wish I could get some recent reviews for those Rocky Point hotels!

Sorry.....we drove to Tampa so I don't know about airport pickup.

Try searching on Trip Advisor for the hotel reviews. Most of them will have Rocky Point in the name of the hotel.

Have a wonderful cruise....

We stayed at Tampa Marriott Westshore in February this year. Grabbed a cab to the port. Nice hotel. Hotel picked us up at TPA airport without any issues.

Is walking to the port an option, i.e, distance and pedestrian/mobility scooter friendly (light on the luggage)?

Double check on Google Maps, but I seem to recall that it was a few blocks - not something I would try with luggage and a scooter.

  • 4 weeks later...
So the Marriotts and the Embassy suites are full or +$200. Really more than we want to spend. We are thinking Holiday Inn Express Rocky Point or the Hampton Inn in the same area. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Both are popular suggestions on this board and usually offer a cruise package including airport and port shuttles. Dining options nearby - go with the cheaper of the two or pick one based upon points.

Have a great cruise! :)

Barrymore hotel. Was previously Howard Johnson downtown. Very reasonable. Downtown location. Have a cruise package with parking and port shuttle ( both ways). Shuttle is also available for downtown, Ybor city, Publix etc. No free breakfast but room has a microwave and small fridge. Recently they have leased a floor or two to the University due to student housing shortage; they will not place you on those floors.

How did you set up for the hotel to pick you up? Did you call and request? We are staying there this Saturday and we're planning to use UBER but if the hotel has a service, we'd prefer to use that. Thanks.
