Gem Stateroom Refurbishment

No, I do not, sorry. I only know what I do talking to the crew in different departments about it. There is a general happy feeling that the ship will be a little calmer for the next few weeks.

 

 

 

Good vibes to all for refurbished rooms!

 

 

So less pax means less work for crew I guess

 

But since that also means no dsc you would think they might be upset rather than calm

 

Oh I forgot the crew gets the same pay no matter how many pax onboard. Lol

I am onboard now there is no refurb of rooms going on. The ship is not full the only thing sold out is the Haven. There are about 400 people onlboard considered local to Puerto Rico. The lack of DSC is being made up for with the crews sanity. The Pan American Pier is a nightmare for embarkation, especially since it's from 11:30-8:30pm. I will bet anything that this itinerary is a one time deal and they will never sail from here again. Most of the crew is just anxious to get back to sailing from NYC.

Thanks for the update. We sail on Sunday. What do you think is a good time to get to the pier to avoid the embarkation nightmare?

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but I just got off the Gem Sunday, and there was absolutely no mention by either the Captain, nor the Hotel Director Nelson Martins at either Meet and Greet on October 23rd or the 30th, nor at the Captain's VIP receptions on the 24th and 31st any cabin rennovations occuring at sea. I mentioned peeling wallpaper, horribly warped wooden panneling, obviously worn carpet in my suite, 9500, and there was just nothing specific they could tell us about future rennovations.

 

Despite those issues, my wife and I had a fantastic two weeks aboard the Gem, and would schedule her again anytime in the future.:)

Dawn doing the same next year. We had no problem boarding on 10/30, got in line at 10:50 AM, was in Garden Cafe by 12:10 PM.

Can you tell me what the suite embarkation was like in Puerto Rico? Did they have a suite lounge and was it easy to locate?

 

On Oct 23rd, outside the terminal, it was absolutely chaos! There was no clear location or system to drop off the luggage, at 1230 there was a line outside the terminal 50 or 60 yard s long, some folks with baggage in tow, and only two people checking ID's and tickets. Once inside and trough security, there were signs for Platinum, Haven, etc, but the staff couldn't understand the Suite designations, so if you were in a Suite, you didn't qualify for Haven check-in. I ignored the staff member, (poor thing) and crashed the Haven line. Once checked in, there was a Haven area, roped off with refreshments, and the Concierge Elvina, and Leo a Butler where there to escort us up to Cagney's for lunch. Nelson Martin's, the Hotel Director assured us at our Meet and Greet on Monday the 24th, that he was personally working in the embarkation process to fix the kinks! From folks I talked to on the second leg of our B2B, things were better ont the 30 Oct. embarkation.;)

Thank you so much! That's very helpful. I'd love to hear your other thoughts on the cruise- and how was Elvina? How was your butler? We are in the Haven area, so I don't know if we will have the same one, but it's always nice to hear about. Was the muster drill at 4:30?

We are sailing in April in the Haven - wondering if those areas were touched yet!!

 

Very excited!!

 

There were some updates to Gem Haven during the last drydock (late 2015??). If you go to the NCL site there are pics of the Gem and you can see what it looks like as well as the Haven sun deck. Main thing is they put nicer chairs/loungers on sun deck and they pulled the palm trees from Haven pool area.
