We've stayed at most places in and around the port and airport. For a decent place to hang your hat for the night, has free shuttle to and from the port and airport and a better free breakfast than the Hilton. Should be no more than $180 or so, if not cheaper thru an online booking site.:

QUALITY INN & SUITES AIRPORT/CRUISE PORT SOUTH

2520 Stirling Rd.

Hollywood, FL, 33020

(954) 922-1600

Plenty of shopping for last minute cruise items and lots of places to eat, most in walking distance.

Not on the water like the Hiltons and others but good for a night or two pre or post cruise.

Stayed there for five of our 10 or so Florida departures

Needing ideas for hotel with airport shuttle and port shuttle in Fort Lauderdale. View of port not essential. Small fee okay.

Suggestions? This is for the March 4th sailing on Freedom of the Seas.

We are from Wis. as well and we always go down a day early and stay a day later. We booked with the Best Western Before and After as they have a free airport shuttle and a small fee from the hotel to the cruise port. Our Hotel was a little over one hundred not including taxes. As you know our weather that is the only way we go before a cruise:):) Have a great cruise as we will be setting sail in a week:):)

Probably the most popular pre-cruise hotel is the Embassy Suites on 17th. This property will sometimes be booked-up more then 6 months in advance. Not only is the hotel pretty decent, but its location is near-perfect for pre or post cruise. There are plenty of stores and restaurants within walking distance as well as several excellent liquor stores (including Total Wines) for those who want to buy some wine to take aboard your ship.

The down side to the hotel is that they do not have free shuttle service. On the other hand they do have a 2 hour free evening cocktail hour and a very decent included breakfast.

Aside from allowing a leisurely debarkation with no stress, followed by a slow unwind day, flying home the day after debarkation gives you a full day of flight choices - not just those noon or later - which often gives fare savings (especially if two or more are traveling) which more than offset the cost of the room.

We do the same except we go for two days post disembarkation. There are plenty of things to do and see in the Fort Lauderdale area and the opportunity to recover from dock rock before returning home is a nice added plus.

Best part is getting a room where we can see the port and watch the ship traffic coming and going.

Excellent post.

On our next cruise out of Fort Lauderdale ( mid-March ) we will be going down for 2 days pre-cruise and will be staying one night post cruise.

Doing this gave us the chance to get extremely good prices on non-stop flights and great hotel prices as well. An extra day or so, easily offset by the flight savings, is not to shabby a deal considering it will be spent around a pool with a conveniently located bar, close to many fine restaurants. The extra time makes for, usually, stress free airport experiences.. LOL

Coming from the Northeast we always fly down at least one day ahead, especially during the winter months.

Do not discount the idea of renting a car. Car rentals in FLL are not expensive, and then you can sightsee and see a lot more than what is located near your hotel.

You can even rent two cars. One for before the cruise and one after.

Pick up the car at the airport, and drop off near the port, or use Alamo which has a free shuttle to and from the port.
