When do we put luggage tags on?

Recommended Posts

We follow a similar procedure and attach them just before we leave the hotel room.

Putting the luggage tags on the bags is the symbolic Start of the Cruise. :D:D:D

And I thought I was the only one who did the "ceremonial laying on of the tags" in the hotel room! :D:D:D

On the STAPLER issue ... our porter did have a heavy duty stapler handy ... so if all else fails ... have your printed tags in hand, folded and ready ... the porter should be able to staple them for you if you haven't already been able to staple them or if you want to 'back up' smaller staples or tape.

I guess I don't understand the stapler thing. Before I got those nice tag

holders (which work great for embarkation and later for disembarkation

tags), I simply took clear wide tape and taped both sides of the printed tags

with enough layers to make them durable and waterproof. Then I punched

a hole in one end. This I do days in advance of the cruise to have ready.

When ready to attach I simply slip a zip tie through the hole and

attach to my bags, always two per bag (one on the side, one on the top).

I always carry extra zip ties in the outside pouch of my suitcase or

my carry on bag.

Cutting the tags off the last night of the cruise after we pack marks the End of the Cruise. :(:(:(

Agree.

No need for confusion ... it's as simple as not everyone carries Zip Ties ... same as not everyone carries a STAPLER or even PACKING TAPE .... different people will find different methods of attaching more convenient for them. We've all just offered information based on whatever method is our own preference, suggestion, experience, etc.

Agree no right, wrong or better. Just Cruisers sharing what works for them.

Luggage tags go on just before getting in the car, cab, bus or shuttle to the port.

We always strip off the airline tags before attaching the cruise tags.

There is only one exception to this. When we send our luggage ahead to the cruise ship, using LUGGAGE FORWARD. When using this service the cruise tags are attached to the bag(s) prior to when they are picked up from our home.

I was not confused...just thought it bulky to pack a stapler, so I was

trying to offer a simpler way.

Zip ties are cheap and take up a whole lot less room than a stapler. ;)

If you are flying, anytime after you receive your luggage. If not, whenever you want before you get to port.

From the OP's post, I would have to assume they are flying in.

Otherwise.....mine are already on for my 22nd embarkation

since it is a "drive to". ;)

We use a slight variation to this procedure. We print out the tags at home, cut them to size and laminate as a group of tags at FedEx/Kinkos. We cut out the tags and punch a hole in the top of each tag. We attach two tags to each bag with zip ties. We use finger nail clippers to cut the tags at the end of the cruise.

Yup, except for the printing and laminating at FedEx/Kinkos...same procedure! :)

I do LOVE my reusable plastic sleeves I bought at that "other" online shopping

site. They are also available here on CC as I understand from others.

That's the way to do it! We always fly in a couple days ahead of time and stay a couple days at a hotel. We put them on there. Anyone that does not want to pack one of those small staplers can get one from reception.
