Diamond and drinks package

Just hit diamond and sailing later this year on Voyager.

We are debating whether or not to get the drinks package as there are quite a few sea days.

Not sure if I have read it somewhere but do diamond guests get offered a 20% discount onboard....

Thanks in advance

Same 20% can be obtained online (for Diamonds). Unless you have a large amount of non refundable OBC you'll be safer off buying in advance.

The discount being offered on board, just like the online one, can be discontinued at any moment.

So if the 20% can be obtained online, is the price I am being quoted already have the 20% discount applied as it doesn't say anything?

Not all cruises have the 20 percent off online either so usually it's advertised as such in your planner.

I'd recommend trying the cruise without the drink package. Take advantage of your new perk (free drinks 5-8:30 in the DL or 3 drinks in any bar) and see how it goes. Unless you are an alcoholic (definition of more than 4 drinks at one strech or 14 drinks in a week), financially, it would be hard to justify a drink package,

I booked a 3 night speciality restaurant package on the 3 night second voyage on Harmony on RCI site with 40% discount offered. I paid full price upfront and when i phoned RC to question why discount not showing i was told they had a code which would be triggered on board to get the 40% amount in OBC.Once on board i was told all the OBC had been assigned and they could not honour online sale. After furious discussions lasting over an hour the speciality restaurant manager sorted it.In future we will wait until we board.

I guess everyone who gets a drink package should attend Friends of Bill onboard. 14 drinks in a week???

Although we free get drinks in CL/SL/DL during cocktail hours as well as the Casino, we enjoy the freedom to try new drinks and to not worry about additional charges.

I assume you were just trying to be helpful and I hesitated to reply but I feel I must express my disappointment in your statement and was truly hurt by it.:( I have had, on occasion and especially on cruises, indulged in, what some may consider, too much drinking.:o However, I am able to control myself (when I want to) and am not considered an "alcoholic"! As stated previously, the package allows one to "taste" different drinks without stressing about the price! And remember, the Deluxe package also includes specialty coffees, all bottled waters, and fresh-squeezed OJ, as well as the alcoholic libations!! We are D's and still enjoy the package, as there are some special made drinks, such as "frozen" ones, that are not available as D drinks!! Cut us some slack please and don't accuse us of being alcoholics! I have read your posts in the past and have either agreed or respected what you had to say but not this time. Sorry but I feel that I have been wrongly accused here.:o

Where the heck did you find that definition? Being the daughter of an alcoholic - trust me - this is not accurate. An alcoholic would rather have a drink then there own child! To reduce it down to such a simple definition is naive.

Sorry you took it that way, I was simply passing on a Google found number.

The bottom line is that for a D, a drink package, financially, makes sense only if you will have at least 5 drinks or more outside of the free drink period. I was simply passing on a financially smart way for a newly minted D (the OP) to enjoy a cruise.

This is something I struggle with on every cruise! Especially the ones in the caribbean where instead of disembarking at these ports Ive been to before I would rather sit by the pool with most of the ship gone. Its really nice to sit by the pool and have the waiter come by every 15-20 minutes and get me a new drink. I only drink when I'm on cruises so definitely no alcoholic here. My vice...the casino. They know me by first name by the end of the first night!!

I am part of the club royale program so thats free drinks in the casino for one. I spend a good 3-4 hours in there a day. I usually go with the more traditional rum and vodka drinks in there. Every now and then a beer. But this is a benefit you definitely earn by losing money in the casino because trust me....you spend enough time in there you will lose.

I am also diamond so thats free drinks in the diamond lounge and or 3 drinks between 5-8:30. I honestly have never used this benefit yet. Last several cruises I had a suite and the concierge lounge alcohol is included. At least it was on Oasis and Allure.

I have 2 trips coming up on Navigator and Jewel both with suites so I'm covered there too. On Jewel it will be in the med and I won't get a package as we will spend most of the days in port and on the ship at night. Not worth it. Covered by the other free drink avenues available.

For the last 5 cruises I have used the all you can drink package. Between the hours of 11am-5 pm I am usually at the pool and this covers the pina coladas and other tropical drinks I get. My girlfriend gets a package too. We totally abuse them. We are ordering 10-15 drinks a day. Do we drink them all.....of course not! But I love having the flexibility of trying new ones. Do we save money....heck no. I usually give the pool guy $20 and tell him to keep coming back. Then tip at least $1 but alot of time $5 dollars to bring me drinks. Ill usually give him both our cards and ask for 2 tropical drinks, 2 beers, and a couple of waters. I never get charged. I don't care about the 18% gratuity. I'm not sure they ever get this. I know when I pay cash I get great service and I appreciate this! They deserve it.

At dinner we always get 3-4 glasses of wine. So its a definite benefit.

I think if you pay $300 or less for a drink package for 1 week and you get 5-10 drinks a day this is a savings. Just keep $1s with you for the tips and they will keep coming back to you!

And I am pretty sure that would be 14 drinks PER week not in just one week while on a cruise!!! Not nice to call people alcoholics!!!

I didn't call anyone an alcoholic - I even said that it was definition found by Google. If it was not for the "free" nature of the drinks on the package, it is very unlikely anyone would drink 10 drinks a day. Basically, someone who gets the drink package, has to turn into the Google's definition of an alcoholic (4+ drinks in a stretch) to make it "worth it" financially. Think about it for a sec - at home, not in a vacation situation, if someone told you they drink 10 drinks a day every day, would you not maybe think they have a drinking problem?
