Id rather be diving Posted January 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2017 Good afternoon, Does anyone know what hotel(s) Princess uses in London for pre-and post cruise stays? The cost? Kari[/quote'] I think if you want a transfer and you are not staying at the hotel with the package you would have to head back to the airport on sailing day to PU the shuttle to Southampton. We use this company when booking a private transfer in London. http://www.woodfordchauffeurcars.co.uk/

London (Southampton/Dover), England Take a few extra days to explore the world-famous Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Thames River. It might take a while to get used to the double-decker buses, but it's certainly worthwhile, as is a shopping spree at Harrods, theatre at the West End, a traditional afternoon tea or soaking up the local color at a nearby pub. Below rates are per person based on double occupancy. Is it possible to get a Princess transfer but not stay at the hotel through Princess? Thanks. Kari[/quote'] Hello Kari, While I can not answer your question fully, I can tell you how we successfully managed some our outbound stays in London. On one occasion, we stayed at the Sofitel hotel in Heathrow Airport. We took a Princess tour that left us off in the airport and stayed a few days, taking the underground into the city as necessary. Another time we did the same thing, taking a tour, being left off in Heathrow and then grabbing a cab to the hotel we booked. We have found that the Princess transfers are not focused on whether you have booked through Princess. Rather, they are about leaving you off at a destination they have contracted. I have heard that some of the hotels and their costs are competitive going through Princess. The only way of knowing whether you can benefit is by doing the price comparison. I hope this helps a little.
jagsfan Posted January 19, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 19, 2017 I would call Princess and ask what hotels they use and what areas transfers are offered from. You might want to check the Grosvenor Victoria, (not the same as Grosvenor House which is across from Hyde Park) a mid price hotel attached to Victoria Station. Our Southampton London transfer dropped us there. The Tara is also midpriced and close to the Underground. Transfers might run to and from there. Spideysmum Posted January 19, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 19, 2017 We aren't staying at a Princess hotel, however we've booked a Princess transfer to the ship. All we have to do is get to Victoria Coach Station by 10 Am on our sail day. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

We are flying in earlier than the cruise departure to allow us to visit other areas in the South of England. We will be based in Southampton for that so are planning to take a private car to our hotel. We know that we are not going to grab a bus to get to a train to take us there. Been there, done that, and are now much older and less adventurous. ;-) I thank you in advance.

Kari[/quote'] You may want to get transfer and hotel cost from Princess and then do a search of the same hotel on your own. You may find there is a significant difference in price. On our first cruise we did the transfer and hotel package in San Juan and found out later that we each paid the rack rate for one room at the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino. I certainly hope not but if they still do this you are paying twice what the room is worth. Good luck

[b']Is it possible to get a Princess transfer but not stay at the hotel through Princess?[/b] Thanks. Kari Maybe. I would suggest a private transfer if you do not stay in a Princess Hotel. We used a private transfer, Smiths for Airports from Heathrow to Southampton. The cost was around GBP85. They gave great service. They also can pick up in London, cost would be higher. Other private transfer companies are available.
bananavan Posted January 19, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 19, 2017 Thanks for that approximate price sknight. For a couple that is a very reasonable price.
easyboy Posted January 19, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 19, 2017 When we arrive London a day or 2 before the cruise, we go back to Heathrow airport for the Princess transfer if our hotel is nearby, or take a cab to Victoria Station for the Princess transfer when staying at a Central London hotel. fishywood Posted January 20, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 20, 2017 How easy is it to take a train from London to Southhampton? Suspect it would be much cheaper Fast train from London Waterloo to Southampton Central costs around 38 pounds (so just over $100 for two tickets) but will get you there in 1 hour 20 minutes--half the time of going by road from a central London hotel. If you really want cheaper there are stopping trains from Waterloo and Victoria stations--literally stopping every few minutes--but non-refundable advance tickets purchased online are often under 10 pounds depending on time of day. Cruiserkenn Posted January 20, 2017 #16 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Do you happen to know if the pricing is per person or per room? I am pretty sure that the price is per person. I have done Princess hotel packages, several times: Marriott LAX, but also in Vancouver and Sydney. My memory is that it was per person. Enjoy your trip. PS - for me, the price is worth it. Especially so in an overseas country. In Sydney, especially, it was wonderful to be met by Princess when arriving late at night, after a 10 hour, 45 minute flight. Very comforting. Cruiserkenn Posted January 20, 2017 #18 Share Posted January 20, 2017 You are right:) ! I guess my eyes skipped that line, and went right to the numbers of the price. So much for my 8th grade speed reading techniques:) Thanks so much for posting.
