What do you love about the Breakaway?

After reading hundreds of posts and reviews, I can pretty much tell you what is wrong with the Breakaway before ever stepping on her. Atrium is too small, pool area is too small, casino and surrounding 3 decks too smoky, seats in the main theater are too uncomfortable, balconies too, small, embarking and disembarking horror stories...

But what is RIGHT with her? If you could only choose one thing, what would you tell me you love most about the Breakaway?

Atrium is great. We sit up in O'shehans with a snack to watch the entertainment.

Not really sure why you have to sit next to the pool. Lots and lots of deck space to enjoy the sunshine.

Casino is no different that any casino on any ship.

Theater seats are wonderful. Air vent at each seat. Great for shows!

Embarkation is fine if you show up early or late. We normally show up around 10:00-10:30 and get our cruise vacation started with first boarding at 11:15-11:30.

Never had any problem disembarking.

Really enjoy sitting on the waterfront with a drink watching the sea go by.

Enjoy being on the top deck watching the sights of manhattan then to the starboard side for the SOL. (And being up very early on deck on the morning of return to see the SOL as we pass by).

The Waterfront was one of my favorite parts of the ship. Early in the morning, around 7:00, there was a coffee dispenser set up at the outdoor part of Maltings. I was able to get my coffee and enjoy the quiet while watching the sun come up over the ocean. It was really beautiful.

Things we love:

Rock of Ages (seen it 4 times, going to see it 2 more times in May!).

Spice H20.

Vibe.

Howl at the Moon.

Spa.

Waterslides!!!

The Waterfront Area - love fine dining outdoors at sea.

Shanghai's Noodle Bar

we have never found the seats uncomfortable. if you are a very large person tehy will be tight as with the seats on any theater.

we dont have the sensitive noses that some have as we never smell the casino smoke anywhere but the casino area.

The Waterfront is great. Best public space on the ship, and QUIET. A hard thing to find on the Breakaway.

Howl at the moon is a freaking blast. Seriously talented performers. Too bad they have to indulge so many terrible requests, but I guess that's the nature of the beast.

The minisuite showers are awesome.

I loved having dinner at the Manhattan Room--having live entertainment was very nice.

Also, the Tomahawk Chop at Cagneys may have been the best piece of meat I have ever had...and I have been to Peter Lugers, Keens, and Del Friscos...

Can't choose just one thing. It's my favorite ship for a lot of reasons.

1. Haven - Staff is fantastic and I have never had a butler that wasn't incredible.

2. Entertainment - I love Rock of Ages, and have seen it many times on Broadway. The cast on Breakaway is great, especially the cast on my December cruise. The Cirque Dreams show is one of the best shows you will ever see on a cruise ship. Burn the Floor is great as well.

3. Variety of restaurants - The specialty restaurants are all great, but I also enjoy O'Sheehans.

4. New York City - Leaving port in NYC is always a thrill. The skyline is awesome and sailing past the Statue of Liberty is inspiring.

5. Casino staff - The casino staff has always been great and know you by name after your first visit. Casinos At Sea is a great program and if you play at all in the casino, you should make sure to sign up for a players card. The discounts are impressive.

6. Aft Penthouse - One of my favorite cabins with a huge balcony and still Haven perks.

People complain about every ship, but I honestly have never had a serious complaint about any of my cruises on Breakaway. I don't sweat the small stuff like the seats in the theater (they ARE uncomfortable), and focus on the positives - and on Breakaway there are a lot of positives.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am a person who did not like the Breakaway, but I will tell you one thing I thought was great...

The molten chocolate lava cake, which is offered every night in the MDR. I think I ate it 5 or 6 out of the 7 nights, it was so good!

I never noticed a smoke issue. Although we never really hit the casino for long. I really can't think if any negatives. Except maybe trying to find a lounge chair on deck during the day. Most of the time we were in the water with our daughter but finding a,chair to lay down in was tough while not in port. The entertainment make this cruise!!

I know you said to pick one thing, but as you can see by everyone's responses, it's hard to pick one!

The Breakaway is hands down my favorite. I feel like I've had the all a round experience since I have cruised her in the Haven and a solo room. Gotta say, I loved the solo room more than the two bedroom family suite I shared with my family. The Haven is spectacular, but what can I say? I love my privacy more haha.

The food is amazing. I love O Sheehans and the buffet is great, even though I am not a buffet person.

The shows are great. Rock of Ages, Howl at the Moon, and comedy shows are fantastic. I love Howl at the Moon and the singers on my last cruise were the best I've ever experienced, way better than the Howl at the Moon on land.

The water slides and the ropes course are an awesome way to spend the afternoon.

I am not really a pool person so I cannot give you much on that because I do not really use it.

But seriously, I know people have a lot of complaints and while they may be helpful to read to plan ahead, try to form your own opinions! There is is much to do and see on the Breakaway that hopefully if something is not up to speed for you, you will find something that is!

I know you asked for only one---but too hard to choose

Howl at the Moon

Waterfront

Specialty Restaurants --Teppanyaki, Cucina, Cagneys

Manhattan Room (dinner and breakfast)

Savor

Taste

Moderno for buffet lunch (didn't need specialty package for the lunch buffet) ---in particular on day they had German food it was especially good

Staff throughout was wonderful

Shows were great --- while a couple of seats I sat in at first were uncomfortable---I was able to move to a seat that was comfortable

Enjoy!
