yvonneh Posted January 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2017 I have a cruise on the Constellation booked this summer. Most of the recent reviews I have read are terrible! How bad is it really? Can someone who has sailed recently let me know? I know she is going into dry dock before we sail, but not sure that will cover all the issues / complaints. Thank you!
bubbachief Posted January 23, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2017 We spent 38 days on the Constellation in November/December last year. It was one of the best three cruises we have taken out of 40. I don't understand what people are complaining about. It was the the first Celebrity cruise on the itinerary and there was an issue in Abu Dhabi dealing with immigration one night, but while inconvenient, was not that big of a deal. We thought the food was great, crew outstanding, and the ports interesting. There will always be some who will find something to complaint about. cheeseheads4ever Posted January 23, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 23, 2017 We were on Connie in February. I wasn't sure either what people were talking about. Enjoyed the food, staff, Martini Bar, room attendant. We read all the reviews prior and thought "what did we just book" but never had a complaint. Enjoy the cruise and ignore the complainers... HokiePoq Posted January 24, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2017 We just booked the Constellation. We had to cancel last year, not due to the Connie cruise, but due to a land tour in Turkey which became unsafe. I love the M class ships....elegant and just the right size for us. My experience is that the staff onboard determines the experience, not the ship. One of our best cruises ever was on a ship that was one of the least attractive. That hotel director gave us the best cruise ever.
SM2 Posted January 24, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2017 We enjoyed Constellation in September and October of 2016. Everything was great and we absolutely had no issues. I also don't understand why people complain about her.
nusailor Posted January 24, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 24, 2017 We did a TA on Constellation. While it was our third TA, I was a little worried as first two had been on Liberty of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas. Big ships, lots to do. Was concerned as I thought that there would be less to do. Boy was I mistaken,,,our Cd was Alejandro and he had that ship jumping. Totally agree with previous poster that a memorable cruise is created by the staff. Their energy and enthusiasm communicates down to the passengers. Last cruise on Eclipse was a letdown. Love the Eclipse but Cd was a disappointment. Hopefully Sue will be back before next one. I try and read Arno's who's on board when booking last minute. Thank you Arno!
Beanb41 Posted January 24, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 24, 2017 2000 people a week sail on the Constellation and nearly every cruise is sold out. There have been about twenty complaints about someone's individual experiences. Don't you think if there was a serious issue people would have been screaming from the rooftops and the issues addressed.
yvonneh Posted January 24, 2017 Author #9 Share Posted January 24, 2017 Thank you everyone! I feel so much better now. I know there are always complainers and unhappy people...and those are typically the ones that like to post the most! cheeseheads4ever Posted January 24, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 24, 2017 We just got off Summit over the weekend which is close to same ship or class as Connie. It too is an older ship, but spotlessly clean..some areas show some wear but food, staff, customer service, casino, MDR, room attendant are excellent. Didnt find any food tough or inedible. Drink packages were nice to have....Im just saying weve been on both m class ships and loved them both..if anyone has any questions please write.. dandee2 Posted January 24, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 24, 2017 Did a few cruise on Connie, most recently just after the Coup in Turkey (we still did a tour the week after in Ephesus!!). Nothing to complain about, everything was great. Old ship but classy. Loved it. Enjoy!
woozlebear Posted January 24, 2017 #12 Share Posted January 24, 2017 I am currently on the Constellation, true if you look for rust you will find it but does it effect my enjoyment not at all. The crew are excellent and very friendly. Officers very visible and entertainment is fine. Today is Phuket so free Internet! theriac Posted January 24, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 24, 2017 I was on the Constellation in November and loved it. The ship was the perfect size, clean, and had an amazing and attentive staff. It was my first cruise on X and booked another onboard. I just got of the Silhouette a few weeks ago and as much as I loved that ship, I still liked the Constellation a lot more. I booked another cruise on the Millennium because I loved that class of ships so much. Like anything if you look for reasons to be weary you will find them. I hope you have a great cruise! Rare MarkusToe Posted January 24, 2017 #14 Share Posted January 24, 2017 been on Summit and Conny to be very honest - Summit beat Conny Summit: more or less best food in MDR we've ever had at Celebrity Conny: better to go to buffet.....
RichKath Posted January 24, 2017 #15 Share Posted January 24, 2017 I've just returned from Abu Dhabi where I took two cruises. One on Constellation and one on MSC Fantasia. I've compared them here: http://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2445381 Whilst I don't think Connie is as good as the S-class ships, it is fine. clr315 Posted January 24, 2017 #16 Share Posted January 24, 2017 I was disappointed when on her but it didn't ruin my time. Was it horrible.....no....was it fantastic no. My issue at the time was the main dining room. They were so disorganized from seating to service to the food. I think it was the only time I have sent food back on a cruise. But that varies and changes so don't think that will happen on your cruise! I'm sure you will enjoy.
aprilfool1991 Posted January 24, 2017 #17 Share Posted January 24, 2017 We were on the Comstellation from 2nd January to 11th. Apart from queuing to board for one and a half hours, because all the buses from the airport arrived together, everything went perfectly. This was our fourth cruise with celebrity and our first on the constellation and the constellation is now our favourite ship. The staff were excellent, couldn't do enough for us, the food in the main diningroom was good and so was the nightly show in the theatre. People are more likely to post a review when something goes wrong and there's no pleasing some folks so don't worry about the reviews. Leeleesmith Posted January 24, 2017 #18 Share Posted January 24, 2017 We were on the Connie in 2014 and did oasis class royal in 2013 and yes we were not impressed. We had done Celebrity equinox in 2011 and had a wonderful cruise. the connie is an oldership and the pictures online are not really the impression you get on the connie only upgrade was a new bar. Its a very tired ship even for new folks that have never cruised before would notice that. the shows were great really enjoyed them. But we were not happy with the things to do onboard the ship and the buffet really was not celebrity standards, the equinox buffet was great this one was not so we avoiding eating there. food in main dining was tasty loved that! the tour operators that celebrity used not so great... Our room was not clean to any cruise ship or hotel standards either which was a surprise, i read another poster say that she wiped with her hand allot of dust off the table that she was really upset about this. would i cruise the connie again, no we will try Princess next and crossing our fingers.. :(
yvonneh Posted January 24, 2017 Author #19 Share Posted January 24, 2017 Thank you for your replies. I have sailed with X several times and cleanliness has never been an issue. That would concern me. I do not eat at the buffet (I prefer Aqua Spa Cafe) and do not take ship excursions, so those are not deal breakers. Happy to hear you like the MDR food and entertainment! I am a foodie, and will certainly miss Luminae on this sailing. That being said, we have always been very satisfied in the MDR. This cruise has only 1 sea day, so we won't be on the ship that much. I am so happy to hear all the positives! Thanks again~ Sent from my iPhone using Forums
florence11 Posted January 24, 2017 #20 Share Posted January 24, 2017 We have booked Constellation for Feb 2018 and I have also been looking at reviews and could not believe how bad they were, but do feel a bit better after reading this. I know it will not be perfect as nothing is but as long as its clean and the food is good I don't mind. We have sailed with Celebrity before on Reflection, Eclipse and Millennium (which is old but was nice) I am hoping its going to be a mixture of all 3 but you know the saying "You can't please everyone all the of time.:)
suekay Posted January 24, 2017 #21 Share Posted January 24, 2017 We were on Connie in December with four friends who had never sailed on Celebrity before although they have sailed on many other lines. All of us loved it. Yes, the ship is getting old and yes, there are patches of rust and other signs of wear, but it didn't spoil our cruise in any way. Cabins were clean, we liked the food in both the main dining room and buffet, and we enjoyed our evenings in the Schooner Bar. No complaints from us! Retired Independent Posted February 4, 2017 #22 Share Posted February 4, 2017 We just cruised on Constellation from Abu Dhabi to Singapore. One comment, do NOT have room 1111. You can get called at all hours with weird calls. That is because there are over 1,000 staff members, each with a mobile unit. If one of them does not put the keypad on lock, and happened to lean on "1", your room will get called. The same with room phones. The problem is, we complained. The Guest Relations Manager was very helpful, but no solution. The only solution was to block all calls, which became big inconvenience to our friends on the same cruise. They knew about the problem back in 2012, and the company did not bother to fix it, nor notify the guests of the potential problem That sickens me. I lost sleep for 2 nights before figuring out the problem. Vacation totally ruined. No one needs that. Other than that, 95% of the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Food is very good in the Blu Restaurant, the special restaurant for Aqua class. They really catered to my gluten free needs, including cooking special desserts for me every night. However, the two Specialty restaurants charged $45-50 per person, and the quality of food was not any better than the main dining room. No wonder they were having trouble attracting guests. They were supposed to add Qsine in May. That should at least be more variety. Getting the Indian visa was pretty hairy, especially since we arranged for a private tour and they scheduled us to get the visa real close to the time to get on shore. Not much help from the staff there, totally confusing messages from different personnel. That's when I ran into one of those very unfriendly staff who actually yelled at me for not following her procedure, and I was just following the advice of other staff members. I always like Celebrity. But this cruise really put a damper on my faith in the Celebrity staff overall.

Retired Independent Posted February 4, 2017 #24 Share Posted February 4, 2017 We are traveling with another couple in their 80's. We need to have some means for them to contact us in case of emergencies. Otherwise, yes, unplugging the phone (if it can be unplugged) can be an option. mulba Posted March 10, 2017 #25 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Just back from Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam and Thailand. The ship is wonderful, like a previous poster said if a bit of rust on the handrails at the Ocean liners bar and a bit on the balconies upset you then don't go. Staff very friendly and food was good. The pasta and the stir fry were excellent especially if you like spicy.
